It should be noted that these are informal, citizens’ petitions asking the Obama administration to allow these states to “peacefully withdraw from the United States and form [their] own government(s).” There has been no action to this end by any state legislature, nor is there likely to be, which makes this simply “sound and fury, signifying nothing.”
There are several reasons why no state legislature is likely to pursue anything resembling secession, the first being that no single state, other than California or possibly New York, has a large enough and diverse enough economy to stand on its own,,,
