Sister Simone Campbell: Alive and Well and Out Causing Mischief | The Big Slice

",,,You see Congress failed ‘sandbox’ in Kindergarten."  The sister has got that right,,,

Sister Simone has been fighting to secure the blessings of liberty for all kinds of people for just about her entire life. Inspired by scripture at a young age, she once sat down with a group of children at a Universalist Church to discuss the apostles and the finer points of catholic teaching. Her mother took her aside and told her that ‘Other people believe differently, and just because we believe one way, it doesn’t mean that others have to.” A young Simone, arguing that Jesus would want her to spread his word, asked how she was supposed to share his teachings if other people thought differently. “The way you do it is by how you live your life,” was the response her mother gave. Those words touched her deeply, and would guide her into a life in service to the poor and marginalized–work that continues to this very day.

In her current work, Sister Simone Campbell brings her faith to the political arena, which she calls “A messy place to dwell in.”  She is a powerful advocate for Obamacare, and is considered one of the most important factors in getting it passed. “It’s not perfect, but it’s giving millions of people access to healthcare that they didn’t have before.” She views this, and the expansion of Medicare, as right to life issues. “Working for ACA is a pro-life issue for me,” she said.
