"A Boy Shot by his Schoolfellow - A Curious Affair." And so begins the fifth known and reported upon incident concerning guns and schools. On June 4, 1867, Arthur Day (13) took a loaded pistol to Public School No. 18 in New York City to shoot a dog he said had bitten him. While playing with the pistol, Day accidentally shot and injured classmate Robert Morton.
