1/6/2014::Duped! 'Marijuana Overdoses Kill 37 in Colorado' Satire Article Fools Many (Video) | Progressive Populist

Facepalm with eye roll!! This story was prevalent on some of the sites in my feed, and some of the comments were "priceless" to say the least. Just demonstrates that people are too quick to just accept blindly was others say without doing their own fact checking. Stupid is as stupid does,,,

So the satire site The Daily Currant decided to run with the story, penning an article proclaiming that 37 people overdosed and died of inhaling too much marijuana smoke on the first day of legalization.

The article sourced a newspaper that is no longer in existence – The Rocky Mountain News. According to the fake article, not only did 37 people die of overtoking, but several others were “clinging onto life in local emergency rooms and are not expected to survive,” and the death toll was expected to go “as high as 200, maybe 300.”

And the article went on to say that the governor of Colorado, John Hickenlooper – yes, that’s his real name – would try and overturn the law via a special legislative session.

Despite all the signs that the article was fake – the newspaper that is no longer in business, and the fact that no one ever has died due to overdosing on marijuana – people bought it, hook line and sinker.
