Me thinks that Spurlock needed to continue reading the passage instead of stopping mid sentence,,, And I do realize that this woman was obviously suffering from a mental illness. But as I read more and more of these types of stories, I have to wonder: What came first her illness or her religion?

I think Kathleen Taylor may be on to something, "that one day religious fundamentalism may be treated as a curable mental illness,,,Someone who has for example become radicalised to a cult ideology -- we might stop seeing that as a personal choice that they have chosen as a result of pure free will and may start treating it as some kind of mental disturbance,,, In many ways it could be a very positive thing because there are no doubt beliefs in our society that do a heck of a lot of damage."

At 2:10 p.m. Thursday, Daphne Spurlock was found guilty of Injury to a Child.

In March 2012, police responded to a call from Spurlock’s husband to find their 4-year-old son, Michael Spurlock, severely beaten and in critical condition. After the boy was flown by air ambulance to the Texas Medical Center in Houston, Daphne Spurlock confessed to police she had repeatedly stomped on the child’s neck and head, and cut his throat in an attempt to rid him of demonic possession. Spurlock was then charged with Injury to a Child.
