Instead Of Begging, Homeless Man Reviews And Sells Books On The Streets | I Acknowledge

On the streets of Johannesburg, South Africa, you may come across a young homeless man named Philani. Instead of the familiar sign asking for spare change, he has a stack of books beside him. He’s read every one and is glad to tell you what he thinks.

The book reviews are no gimmick either. He really has read every book he carries with him and can give you a summary and opinion on each. He also has a personal favorite (Wuthering Heights) and favorite authors (John Grisham). Why does the author of courtroom drama get the top spot?
"He touches on social justice and I think that’s the one thing lacking in the world.”
The response from people who learn about Philani and his amazing message of the power of a good book has been overwhelming. Tebogo (who has kept in touch with Philani) says that since posting his video online, the man has been flooded by people wanting to give him books or find other ways to help. He has also received some media attention and even gotten a few job offers.
