Some how I missed this story. A few weeks old, but it is still important to highlight it. Notice the misuse of religious imagery and misinformation touched upon in regards to the Craigslist killing.

Is it the devil? No.  It's a horrific story of a murder based on superstition. As Magus Peter Gilmore wrote, "We are atheists, not devil worshippers. We do not support the practice of human or animal sacrifice,,,We do not condone murder,,,these cases often involved the use of illegal drugs as well as cobbled-together religious ideas,,,Their belief in Satan is a Christian one, seeing him as a real being demanding chaos, sacrifice and murder as forms of worship,,,It should come as no surprise that Satan has once again been chosen as a scapegoat, since criminals often seek to blame others for their actions and The Devil has historically been named as inspiring many acts deemed to be evil."

Two teenage boys were hoping to make a deal with the devil when they sexually assaulted and killed a 15-year-old suburban Houston girl in a satanic ritual, a prosecutor said Tuesday.

Seventeen-year-old Jose E. Reyes and a 16-year-old boy are accused of disfiguring the girl's body, including carving an upside down crucifix on her stomach.

Reyes and the 16-year-old boy, whose name is not being released because he is a juvenile, each face a capital murder charge for the death of Corriann Cervantes.

Jordan said the younger boy had heard Reyes claim that he had sold his soul to the devil and the 16-year-old wanted to do the same.

"The juvenile inquired ... that if he committed a murder, would that basically initiate him into being able to sell his soul to the devil, of which Mr. Reyes said, `Yes,'" Jordan said.

At Reyes' home, "there were some signs of devil worship and things of that nature," Jordan said.

A 17-year-old teenage girl claims that suspected satanic killer Jose Reyes is a date rapist who sexually and physically assaulted her last year. It is the policy of KHOU 11 News to conceal the identity of sexual assault victims.

She said she knew Reyes and his family and went to Heritage Park in Webster with him last February to drink. She admits they also got high on weed.

The teen said things turned ugly and Reyes and three of his friends raped her. She also said Reyes physically assaulted her as well.
