Police: 'Prepper' threatened neighbors, stockpiled guns

Something about this story, maybe the way it is written and presented, seems off to me. I have friends that are both "preppers" and survivalists, some are more ideological than others. Some prep due to necessity (hurricanes or tornadoes) others for reasons I don't always understand (variation of some end-time type scenario or oppression by the government - think FEMA camps.) But one thing they all have in common, they are non-violent. They may sometimes "talk big" but "terrorizing" a neighborhood, no. Most of them just want to be left alone to do there own thing

What bothers me, and I do admit headline key words are my first filter in "choosing" a story., had this story not had the word "prepper" in it I would have paid it no mind. What I would like to know is, why this,
"Officers became more concerned when someone close to McCool used the "prepper" label to describe McCool and said he had "fortified" his home and had a stockpile of weapons, according to the statement."
And not this
"Reports of assaults, threats, gunfire,,,."
My next door neighbor has more guns than this dude,,,

Reports of assaults, threats, gunfire and the discovery of a cache of weapons have Springfield police worried about a west Springfield neighborhood.

Those worries increased, leading to an arrest, after police received information that a man allegedly terrorizing neighbors is a "prepper," or doomsday survivalist hoarding weapons.

Residents of the neighborhood are "living on pins and needles," according to a police report, because of a man who's allegedly been terrorizing the area.

"Preppers" or "survivalists" are typically considered people who stockpile items in preparation for a certain event, such as a war or attack. That could include food, supplies, or in some cases, weapons.

Police used all that information to obtain a search warrant this month, and they say that during the search they found 10 guns, including assault-style weapons, and thousands of rounds of various types of ammunition.

Police also say they found several bags of coins — 3,395 dimes, 1,412 quarters, 1,249 half dollars, 828 quarters, four nickles and a one-ounce gold coin from South Africa.<--Not that unusual in the prep world as many believe silver and/or gold will be the only form of "currency" when the bad times come.
