An employee of the Lenoir County Boys and Girls Club who is also a minister of a New Bern area church has been arrested for sex crimes with a child.
Telas Ray Staten, 39, of 606 Mitchell St., Kinston, was taken into custody Monday night by the Kinston Department of Public Safety and charged with felony counts of statutory sexual offense, indecent liberties with a child and crimes against nature. The KDPS arrest report revealed the alleged victim was a male between the ages of 13-15.
KDPS Commander Tim Dilday said his department received a call at 1 p.m., Monday, about the alleged charges and officers visited Staten’s home. After an interview with Staten, he was arrested.
According to his Facebook page, Staten is not only a pastor at the St. Matthews Church of Christ Disciples of Christ church in New Bern, he is also the CEO of T.R. Staten Ministries in Kinston.
