Transgender College Student Attacked in Possible Hate Crime | Advocate.com

A transgender student at the State University of New York at Geneseo was assaulted early Friday morning as she walked home with friends. According to reports, 20-year-old Roric Brown confronted the victim as she walked past, yelling homophobic slurs, throwing a drink at her, and then punching her in the stomach and throat.

The district attorney's office is now attempting to determine whether or not to pursue hate crime charges against the 20-year-old, who is currently being charged with second-degree aggravated harassment, a class-A misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail.
