Poor Piyush! Think he is a bit butt-hurt because
IBM actually carried through with their "
warning" of consequences in regards to Louisiana’s “Marriage and Conscience Act” (HB 707). Although the bill failed, Piyush instead issued an
executive order,
"We are disappointed by the committee’s action to return the
Louisiana Marriage and Conscience Act to the calendar. We will be
issuing an Executive Order shortly that will accomplish the intent of HB
707 to prevent the state from discriminating against persons or
entities with deeply held religious beliefs that marriage is between one
man and one woman.
“This Executive Order will prohibit the state from denying or
revoking a tax exemption, tax deduction, contract, cooperative
agreement, loan, professional license, certification, accreditation, or
employment on the basis the person acts in accordance with a religious
belief that marriage is between one man and one woman.”
To which
IBM responded:
For months, a ribbon-cutting had been scheduled for Monday, June 22, to
open IBM’s new National Service Center in Baton Rouge. It would have
featured many city leaders, including Davis Rhorer, executive director
of the Downtown Development District. There was a rumor when Jindal
issued his executive order that IBM might cancel the event in protest,
and this week, the company quietly took it off the schedule,,,
Guess that is what Piyush meant by an "unholy alliance":
Gov. Bobby Jindal of Louisiana called into Glenn Beck's radio program
today, where he warned that an "unholy alliance between big business
and the radical left" is persecuting Christians by opposing legislation
designed to allow Christian business owners to discriminate in the name
of "religious liberty."
"Look at the fight in Indiana over religious liberty," Jindal said.
"You had this unholy alliance between big business and the radical left
going after the religious liberty and conservatives. Look, the radical
left wants to tax and regulate businesses out of existence. They think
profit is a dirty word, so these businesses need to be careful who
they're making these alliances with."
