Former John Carroll Catholic High School teacher accused of having sex with student | AL.com

A former John Carroll Catholic High School teacher is facing a charge accusing him of being a school employee who engaged in sexual intercourse with a student younger than 19 years old.

The Pelham Police Department issued a press release this afternoon that states Charles Edward Dudley, 30, faces the single charge. A John Carroll representative said that Dudley worked as a teacher, while Dudley lists various coaching positions at the school in his work experience posted online.

"At the time of the alleged crime Dudley was employed by an area private school and the alleged victim was a student there," according to the agency's statement.

A representative of John Carroll Catholic High School said that Dudley is no longer an employee at the Birmingham-area private institution.

The Rev. Douglas Vu, the Diocese of Birmingham in Alabama's director of media relations, provided AL.com with a statement this evening that said Dudley has resigned

"Once it was determined that the allegations appeared credible and criminal, we contacted the Pelham Police Department who conducted their own investigation," the statement concludes.
