ASU research professor James "Jaime" Lara had his priesthood revoked
by the Vatican in 1992 for sexually abusing children, the Roman Catholic
Diocese of Brooklyn said in a statement Thursday.
The University asked for his resignation Thursday in light of the
announcement, according to an ASU official. Lara agreed to resign and is
no longer associated with the University, according to a University
statement.
“Jaime Lara is no longer affiliated with Arizona State University, effective Thursday,” the statement read.
The ASU official said the University found out about Lara’s history with the clergy when the diocese announced it on its website Thursday.
