Spring Hill pastor accused of assault | News | dothaneagle.com

An incident of assault was reported Nov. 28 between a United Methodist pastor and an in-law.
According to a report from the county Sheriff’s Office, James Lenard Dykes, 70, of Midway, filed a report claiming he was assaulted by Joel Bates Miller, 61, also of Midway. According to the United Methodist Church database, Miller serves as pastor of Spring Hill United Methodist Church, Comer UMC and Midway UMC.
Dykes told deputies that he was in his shop hooking up his boat, getting ready to leave for Florida to go fishing when Miller entered the building. Trying to be friendly towards Miller, Dykes offered him a box with some bibles in it to which Miller reportedly stated that he just “wanted to get his things from the shop.” Dykes said he inquired why the other man wanted his stuff all of a sudden, and Miller replied he wanted to get his things out before Dykes stole them.
When Dykes asked for an explanation of the statement, he told deputies that Miller replied, “Like you stole your wife’s money.”
