Prosecutor: Minister hid in closet to avoid getting caught by grandmother of underage girl - Chicago Tribune

The grandmother of a 16-year-old girl caught a West Side minister hiding in a closet after she suspected he was having sex with her, prosecutors said Wednesday.


Alfonzo Carter, 44, who preaches at the Greater First Baptist M.B. Church, was charged with criminal sexual assault of the girl, who he had baptized when she was younger, prosecutors said.

In April, Carter had started counseling sessions with the girl, who was having problems at school. At the end of the sessions, Carter would hug the 16-year-old and touch her thighs, prosecutors said.

Carter then began calling and texting the girl. Prosecutors said he eventually asked the girl if she was sexually active. When she told him no, he asked if he could teach her how to have sex and she agreed, prosecutors said.
