Jury finds former counselor guilty of sex assault charge - Community - Mobile Adv

A jury has found a Huntington man accused of inappropriately touching a girl guilty of his charges.

John Wesley Carter, 47, has been found guilty of aggravated sexual assault and indecency with a girl who was 10 at the time of the incident. In 2016, the girl made her outcry to a teacher. The girl said Carter touched her inappropriately in a deer stand at his home.

In 2015, Carter pleaded guilty in an unrelated case to attempting possession of child pornography and attempting an improper relationship between an educator and a student. Carter previously worked with the Lufkin and Diboll school districts, as well as Pineywoods Community Academy. He also worked with the children’s church of Harmony Hill Baptist Church before the allegations of his 2015 case arose.

Carter’s trial began Monday in state District Judge Paul White’s court. Assistant district attorneys Ken Dies and Sandra Martin represented the state and attorney Al Charanza represented Carter. The jury deliberated for about three hours before doling out the guilty verdicts for Carter’s charges.
