TWATs for Week Ending 5/15/22

So my hometown has been victimized by a deadly racist mass shooting. I am in shock to say the least; although I shouldn't be. (According to various sources, his reason for targeting the area is a direct result of decades of segregation and systemic racism). While I grew up in a suburb of Buffalo, I lived in various neighborhoods till I left the WNY area about 22 years ago. I still have many family members in the area. Thankfully all are safe.

https://www.wivb.com/news/buffalo-supermarket-mass-shooting-tops/twitch-deletes-shooters-live-stream-video-of-buffalo-mass-shooting/

From my understanding (and memory) the coward's attack took place in an area we called “the East Side.” IOWs, we would call it a not so nice hood for various reasons. The shooter wouldn't know this because he is not from the area. He would have had to do some information gathering. So yes this was pre-plannned and I believe based on what I have read an organized attack.

I have much to digest,,, my deepest condolences to the families and loved ones left grieving.

Hey Vincent,,, you seem so pleased with the idea of a coming theocracy. I have one question for ya, are you the “right kind” of Christian? https://www.thenewcivilrightsmovement.com/2022/05/next-we-go-after-obergefell-far-right-activists-celebrate-by-declaring-we-shall-have-our-theocracy-very-soon/ If you're not, they will have no issue of discarding you.

James was among a chorus of far-right and Christian nationalist activists looking forward to using the SCOTUS decision to implement their theocratic agenda. Not satisfied with simply removing the right to abortion protected in Roe, they’re eager to pass a total abortion ban, dismantle the right to same-sex marriage, and institute their ultraconservative version of Christianity on others. They see an ally in the Supreme Court, and there’s reason to believe that they’re right.

FYI, this clip is so full of Christian love it will make you puke!

And he (David Barton) wonders why no one takes his pseudo-history seriously; he is a proven liar for jeebus. The Jefferson Lies: Exposing the Myths You've Always Believed About Thomas Jefferson (2012) was pulled by Thomas Nelson publisher, for well documented inaccuracies. https://web.archive.org/web/20120811212308/http://www.worldmag.com/webextra/19840

Just to give y'all an idea, I have been tracking Barton since a 2005 Time magazine article entitled "The 25 Most Influential Evangelicals." https://web.archive.org/web/20130822130328/http://www.time.com/time/specials/packages/article/0,28804,1993235_1993243_1993261,00.html You would think that in that time Barton would learn. The answer is nope, not even a hint. It is why Mantyla's destruction of Barton's recent lie is so grand.

Churches ran the communities, and the voter turnout was 100 percent,”

,,,

Barton’s claim is absurd given that statistics show that voter turnout has never once reached 100 percent even in presidential elections. And while their are apocryphal reports that Daniel Webster won 4,990 out of 5,000 votes cast in the 1824 congressional election, such reports do not provide any information about how many people were eligible to vote in that election. Winning 4,990 out of 5,000 votes would only prove that Webster was a popular candidate; it says nothing about what percentage of eligible voters actually participated in the election. https://www.rightwingwatch.org/post/david-barton-falsely-claims-voter-turnout-was-100-percent-in-early-america-because-churches-ran-the-communities/

We are now going to enter into a realm I had to put on the back burner for my sanity. Generally I do not issue trigger warnings, but felt it was warranted in the following 2 stories as the details are horrific.

DO NOT tell me that religious belief is harmless. You are a lying asshole and I have no qualms stating such. There is no justification one can offer in the murder of a child especially a murder based in fantasy.

Allegedly the words of the mother about three months ago. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_U3A9ZnuPg

Court records say Hernandez told police she had begun to believe her daughter was possessed because she would “wake up and scream or cry periodically," according to the AP.

Hernandez and her brother reportedly brought the toddler to a tiny Pentecostal church in San Jose called the "Iglesia Apostoles y Profetas," where Arely's grandfather was a pastor. The AP reports the church operates out of a basement of a home. https://fox17.com/news/nation-world/mom-charged-in-toddler-daughters-death-after-alleged-exorcism-says-it-is-what-it-is-arely-proctor-claudia-hernandez-san-jose-california

In another case of religious stupidity, https://abc7.com/west-hills-children-dead-angela-flores-lapd-investigation/11838036/

The mother accused of killing her three young children inside their West Hills home believed they were possessed by demons, Eyewitness News has learned.

Angela Flores, 38, was arrested after three children were found dead inside the home on Sunday. She had been expected to be arraigned Wednesday, but it was continued until Aug. 10. Flores remains in jail on $6 million bail.

According to authorities, the children's mother admitted to killing them with the help of her 16-year-old son. She has been charged with three counts of murder.

There are many unanswered questions about how authorities handled the case and why it took so long for them to find the children. Answers hopefully TBD by autopsy. A 16-year old son is also charged as he helped restrain one of the children who fought Flores during the attack.

An update to Louisiana's bill HB-813 which was slated for vote Thursday night. https://www.yahoo.com/news/louisiana-debates-murder-charge-women-053041484.html

The sponsor of a bill that would have subjected Louisiana women to murder charges for having abortions abruptly pulled the proposal from debate Thursday night after House members voted 65-26 to totally revamp the legislation, eliminating the criminal penalties.

The controversial bill would have ventured farther against abortion than lawmakers’ efforts in any other state. It would have made women who end their pregnancies subject to criminal homicide prosecutions.

Given this woman's track record for hyperbole, I would not take anything she says seriously. As David notes, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P5tMjiA9HyE why don't the angels prevent vote stealing? Is Jr just mimicking mom's nutty behavior for attention or her approval?

Hamm says, “,,, she'll be honest and fair and honorable,,,.” But yet she is a QAnon believer which tells me she is incapable of such.

Colorado school board member Jamilynn D’Avola told a child Jesus justified her bigoted views. Lacy Carroll fought back.” https://onlysky.media/hemant-mehta/a-school-board-member-justified-bigotry-with-jesus-this-mom-wasnt-having-it/ Hemant provides an excellent backstory for this clip which boils down to this,

So… the child urged a school board member to be a decent human being. The school board member responded by basically telling that child she’s too stupid to understand mental illness and gender identity and needed more Jesus in her life. And another school board member Blamed. The. Child.

And to be clear, D'Avola is anti-LGBTQ. anti-comprehensive sex education, anti-Black Lives Matter, ect.. According to Hemant,

She downplayed the seriousness of mental health. She dismissed the existence of trans people. She implied the student needed to convert to her religion. It was just completely inappropriate bullshit from someone speaking as a government official

Headline:: “The religious right wants nothing more than to take control of the education system and use it to indoctrinate students with their own conservative Christian worldview.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1KST8zsLu6w

To borrow from a comment, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1snF84yvmDU

This has been going on for literally decades. And every time someone said anything about it, it was dismissed as "religious hate", or "Christian persecution" or simply just saying it's not nice to criticize peoples religion. And after decades of ignoring this problem, here we are.

While my thinking is not quite as harsh as Pakman's, it's pretty close:: Is This a Christian Church or an Insane Asylum? Welcome to the world of “prayer warriors” were the goal is to pray away the demons that want to attack the speaker while he or she is speaking.

This is the direction I was headed in my quest to become the “perfect christian.” The first crack to appear was when I was told I had no right to grieve when my g/f was killed. (I had already rectified my homosexuality with what the bible presents so it was not an issue. Seems not everyone agreed with me.) Long story short, this type of dog and pony show is not foreign to me so not as taken aback as David is.

With that I bring this episode to a close by presenting Telltale https://www.youtube.com/c/TelltaleAtheist/featured. A YTer who specializes in examining cults and oppressive religions.
