A group of anti-LGBTQ preachers will be hosting a “Make America
Straight Again” conference this weekend in Florida, three years after
the Pulse nightclub shooting.
The preachers, associated with the New Independent Fundamentalist
Baptist Church, put together the conference in Orlando as a way to
dishonor those who died in the gay nightclub shooting that left 49
people dead on June 12, 2016.
According to a promotional video put together by pastor Patrick Boyle of the Revival Baptist Church in Orlando, the three-day conference will be “exposing the reprobates.”
He said that the speakers invited to the conference are known for
“making a vocal stand against the Sodomites and their filth that they’ve
been spreading to the homes of families across the world and the United
States of America.”

Welcome to H&C,,, where I aggregate news of interest. Primary topics include abuse with "the church", LGBTQI+ issues, cults - including anti-vaxxers, and the Dominionist and Theocratic movements. Also of concern is the anti-science movement with interest in those that promote garbage like homeopathy, chiropractic and the like. I am an atheist and anti-theist who believes religious mythos must be die and a strong supporter of SOCAS.

Conversion Therapy Event at BYU-I Axed - The Daily Beast
Michael D. Williams,
the Rexburg, Idaho-based counselor in question, told The Daily Beast
“that I do not act on behalf of the [LDS Church], but as a member of the
congregation who has taken a good look at much of the research
regarding same-sex attraction [SSA], and who has assisted a number of
young adults—male and female—to overcome unwanted SSA both here and in
California.”
Williams did not immediately respond to further questions about the event, nor did he provide evidence of the supposed efficacy of his treatments. But a few hours later, he emailed to say, “Due to negative publicity the presentation has been called off.”
“I regret that the fears of some who’ve experienced repression and bigotry have resulted in others not being allowed to learn alternative viewpoints and options,” he said
No media outlets had reported on the event at the time of cancellation but The Daily Beast had made press inquiries to BYU-I and the Mormon Church. A BYU-I spokesperson later told The Daily Beast that the event was planned and subsequently cancelled by a local student congregation, not the university itself.
On his professional blog, Williams has authored several anti-gay and anti-transgender posts. In one, he refers to Leelah Alcorn—a transgender girl who committed suicide in December 2014, prompting the Obama administration to officially oppose conversion therapy—as a “troubled young man” and repeatedly uses male pronouns to refer to her. Williams predictably opposed President Obama’s new stance on conversion therapy.
In another post, in which Williams predicts that the Supreme Court’s landmark decision in Obergefell will have “dire consequences,” he claims that “[h]omes with same-sex ‘parents’ are remarkably unstable” and that the term “same-sex marriage” is “a misnomer and oxymoron.”

Why Is Pro-Marriage Chick-fil-A Sponsoring an LGBT Film Festival? — Charisma News
The Reich is cannibalizing "one" of their own for not being a "real" Christian.
The fast-food restaurant drew controversy in 2012 when CEO Dan Cathy told the Baptist Press he was "guilty as charged" for supporting traditional marriage. Why Is Pro-Marriage Chick-fil-A Sponsoring an LGBT Film Festival? — Charisma News
But after the anti-LGBT headlines, Cathy appeared to be changing his tune, claiming he recognized he made a mistake.
"Every leader goes through different phases of maturity, growth and development and it helps by (recognizing) the mistakes that you make," Cathy said. "And you learn from those mistakes. If not, you're just a fool. I'm thankful that I lived through it and I learned a lot from it."
,,,
"Shame on you, Dan Cathy," Grider writes. "Christian Americans stood by you and Chick-fil-A every step of the way back in 2012 when you were persecuted for taking a stand for Jesus Christ. But we will not stand with you on this. No sir. One of my favorite places to get lunch is at one of your restaurants, but that can and will change."

Scott Lively, Due On Trial For “Crimes Against Humanity” Early 2016, Will Be Represented By Kim Davis’s Law Firm
But…he takes care of homeless people. And he’s a Family Man. And he is a Pastor. And he found a way to put his life together — and then some — after 16 years of struggle. And…I have posted quite a bit about Lively and his anti-gay antics, but not much concerning his upcoming trial (my bad). Quite frankly his trial falls under an area of law - the Alien Tort Statute (ATS) - I have no knowledge of. According to the Center for Constitutional Rights (CRR):
He is one of the most dangerous people walking on the face of the earth today.
He’s due to go to trial near the beginning of 2016. Guess who’s representing him?
The case, filed in 2012, is expected to go to trial early next year in a U.S. district court in Massachusetts….That’s right. Liberty Counsel — the hate group currently supporting Kim Davis.
Lively is represented by Liberty Counsel, a Christian law firm that also represents Kim Davis, the Kentucky clerk who was recently jailed for her refusal to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.
And when it comes to Kim Davis herself, according to the Religion News Service, Lively complimented her “courage and commitment.”
Right. You know what takes “courage and commitment”? People who have to be in hiding from the laws Lively allegedly helped pass who, nevertheless, go on national television and speak against them.
This is the first ATS case seeking accountability for persecution on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity as a crime against humanity. The United States Supreme Court has affirmed the use of the ATS as a remedy for serious violations of international law that are widely accepted and clearly defined. Persecution is defined in international law as the "intentional and severe deprivation of fundamental rights contrary to international law by reason of the identity of the group or collectivity." Lively – a U.S.-based attorney, author, and self-described world-leading expert on the “gay movement” – has traveled to Uganda and other countries, including Russia, and played a key role in the effort to strip LGBTI people of fundamental rights, including the rights to free expression, association, and assembly.I am sure with Liberty Counsel now at the helm of his defense, we will be hearing about how Lively is such a martyr for the Christian cause.

This pastor is trying to boycott literally every company that accepts gay people · PinkNews
He said: “I want to call for a national boycott against sodomy in America.
“What we need to come to terms with, and God has shown me this, is that the Sodomites with a Sodmite in the White House, think they now have America under their absolute control.”
“But Almighty God has revealed to me that we are in a mega majority, those of us who are Bible believers. I want to call for a boycott, and here’s the level at which the boycott should be understood.
“If you know of a business that is owned by Sodomites, for instance Tylenol… we’re not going to buy Tylenol anymore.
“There are many others, General Millsand many other organisations that will out themselves as being sodomite friendly. We need to understand that we can boycott them.”
Unfortunately, Mr Manning uploaded his video to YouTube, which is owned by Google – one of the 379 firms who signed a Supreme Court employers’ brief earlier this year, calling for equal marriage.

Lines being drawn for Indiana’s next fight over LGBT rights – LGBTQ Nation
Months after a divisive religious objections law thrust Indiana
into an unwanted national spotlight, gay rights supporters and
religious conservatives are preparing for another potentially bitter
debate — this time over enshrining LGBT protections into state law.
Republican Gov. Mike Pence and key leaders in the GOP-controlled Legislature have gone to lengths to avoid publicly discussing the matter, even as Democrats plan to push legislation and several Indiana cities have considered adopting their own lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender protections. At the same time, religious conservatives are using a new tactic: raising concerns that children will be exposed to transgender people and what they say are sexual predators in public restrooms if the protections are approved.
No one with a stake in the issue — including a gay-rights coalition that includes many of Indiana‘s prominent businesses — says there’s much room for compromise. That sets the stage for what “could be a huge mess” when the Legislature convenes in January, said Paul Helmke, a public affairs professor at Indiana University and former Republican mayor of Fort Wayne. It also could have a lasting impact on Pence’s re-election bid next year.

Top Jeb Bush Adviser Vin Weber Signs On to Lobby for Anti-Gay Uganda Government
Uganda hired Mercury Public Affairs, Weber’s firm, for a $50,000 per month retainer with Weber as the only registered lobbyist on the account. The contract calls for Mercury to provide general “lobbying services” as well as communication services to promote trade and investment opportunities in Uganda.
Weber joined the Bush campaign effort in February as an outside adviser. According to the Washington Post, Weber has worked behind the scenes to develop ties between Bush and major donors and conservative leaders. He told the Post in June that he intends to “coordinate policy” for the campaign.
,,,
The anti-LGBT laws proposed in Uganda have found support from some religious right figures in the American conservative movement. According to journalist Jeff Sharlet, Ugandan politician David Bahati, the sponsor of Uganda’s Anti-Homosexuality Act, is a member of a conservative Christian organization known as The Family, whose members include Sen. Jim Inhofe, R-Ok., Jim DeMint, and Tom Coburn.
Religious right figures Bryan Fischer and Lou Engle have also provided praised the effort. (Notably, Hillary Clinton is one of a very small group of Democrats to attend private Capitol Hill prayer services organized by The Family.)

RNC Wants First Amendment Defense Act Passed
So despite the appearance of protections for individuals and businesses, the RNC is openly endorsing discrimination against people who are LGBTQ. According to the text provide by The Daily Signal, the resolution claims it aims to "protect the rights of believers to equal treatment by the government of The United States of America":
Resolution in Support of The First Amendment to the U.S. ConstitutionAn issue, that ThinkProgress notes as well,
Whereas, The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was written to prohibit the federal government from taking discriminatory action against a person on the basis that such person believes or acts in accordance with a religious belief or moral conviction; including that: (1) marriage is or should be recognized as the union of one man and one woman, or (2) sexual relations are properly reserved to such a marriage;
Whereas, The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution should therefore protect Americans from the action of a narrow 5 to 4 majority of the Supreme Court who have upheld gay marriage without regard to the democratic rights of the people or the states, and without any religious liberty protections;
Whereas, The Chief Justice of the United States, John Roberts, has pointed to the serious religious liberty consequences that may stem from the decision: “Today’s decision … creates serious doubts about religious liberty . . . Indeed the Solicitor General candidly acknowledged that the tax exemptions of some religious organizations would be in question if they opposed gay marriage;”
Whereas, Many Americans, including Melissa Klein, Kelvin Cochran, Baronelle Stutzman, Angela McCaskill, Brendan Eich, Frank Turek, Scott McAdams, Tom Emmer, Jack Phillips, Elaine Huguenin, Betty and Richard Odgaard, Cynthia and Robert Gifford are losing their livelihoods or are being disciplined for courageously dissenting from gay marriage orthodoxy;
Whereas, Many on the Left exhibit an intensifying hatred and intolerance for gay marriage dissenters; and
Whereas, Religious schools, colleges and universities, and other charities, could lose their First Amendment rights and their right to equal access to government benefits, including 501(c)3 status, student aid, and government contracts; therefore be it
Resolved, The Republican National Committee urges Congress to pass and the President to sign The First Amendment Defense Act to protect the rights of believers to equal treatment by the government of The United States of America.
Ellen Barrosse, RNC chair of the Conservative Steering Committee, told The Daily Signal that neither the resolution nor the bill have anything to do with discrimination, but are instead “an attempt, for those of us who are people of faith, to protect religious organizations.” She offered the following example: “Does Catholic Charities have to place children with gay couples, or will they have to shut down? This is a free market, there are other agencies that will place children with them.”
Barrosse neglected to point out that every time Catholic Charities faced this conflict, it was because the organization believed it was entitled to continue receiving state funding while discriminating against couples the state recognized as married. In each case that Catholic Charities shut down adoption services, it was a voluntary decision made because it refused to operate without state funding.
The RNC resolution specifically references multiple cases when private business owners have faced legal consequences for refusing to serve to same-sex couples in violation of nondiscrimination laws. It also mentions several individuals who faced public scrutiny for their anti-gay views, suggesting that all of these people are victims of “intensifying hatred and intolerance”,,,

World Congress of Families to Feature Anti-LGBTQ Family Scholars | Political Research Associates
One of the leading exporters of U.S.-style culture wars—the World Congress of Families (WCF)—is hosting an international gathering of right-wing scholars and activists in Salt Lake City, Utah later this year. It will be WCF’s first major conference on U.S. soil, and the event’s agenda includes a who’s who list of U.S. conservatives. Among them are two individuals who have made it their business to provide academic sanction to some of the Right’s destructively erroneous claims about LGBTQ people: Mark Regnerus and Brad Wilcox.
Since its publication in July 2012, the infamous “Regnerus Study” (officially titled the “New Family Structures Study”) has become a favorite weapon in the Religious Right’s campaign against LGBTQ people. The study, funded by the right-wing Witherspoon Institute and conducted by University of Texas associate sociology professor Mark Regnerus, portrays LGB parents in a negative light, suggesting that children raised by a mother and father in biologically intact families fare better than children raised by LGBTQ people.
By the time Wilcox took over as NMP’s top dog in 2009, he had established himself as a prominent sociologist in conservative academic circles, building a résumé featuring connections to some of the Right’s leading institutions, including the World Congress of Families and Witherspoon Institute.
