Rep. Steve King: ‘Self-professed’ gays could entrap businesses by pretending | The Raw Story

Yes, I'm intentionally ignoring his reference to the Declaration of Independence. I oft cite Daulton Dickey, "Does the Declaration of Independence Establish America as a Christian Nation?" as a thorough refutation of the phrase "God-given rights that our founders defined in the Declaration of Independence."

I am also ignoring his misunderstanding of what was actually written in the law (Arizona SB 1062), What it would have done is provide a religious EXCEPTION to all of Arizona's laws. Not just against gays, not just against lesbians (as neither is even mentioned in the bill) but any individual (or group) you dislike then claim "my religion made me do it."

King acknowledged that the public accommodation section of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 protected individuals based on race, religion and other characteristics.

“And there’s nothing mentioned in there on self-professed behavior,” he said, referring to homosexuality. “And that’s what they’re trying to perfect, is special rights for self-professed behavior. And I think it’s difficult for us to define a law that would protect self-professed behavior.”

R-e-l-i-g-i-o-n, defined as "a set of beliefs, values, and practices,,," Sounds like there is a bit of "self-professed behavior" and choice in that definition. You either choose (indoctrination aside) to believe in God or you don't. It can not be “independently verified."

By Kings own "logic" he seems to want to "perfect special rights" for "self-professed" religious behavior, doesn't he?
