Investigators said Mansell is accused of using a church credit card to make unauthorized personal purchases totaling more than $129,000.
“There were more than 2,200 transactions that she made from July 2011 until April 2014, when an internal audit discovered some discrepancies in the financial records,” Muscle Shoals police Lt. Seig Mueller said.

Highland Park lead pastor Brett Pitman said the church is “wounded and hurt” by Mansell’s alleged actions.
“She has been a lifelong attender and longtime employee of Highland Park Baptist Church,” Pitman said in a statement. “Upon discovering the discrepancies in our finances, our pastoral staff and deacon body took time to consider whether to press charges. After serious thought and prayer, we felt, as citizens of this community and as stewards of the resources entrusted to us, the appropriate thing to do was to turn over the evidence to the authorities for a thorough investigation.

This is the second time this year a former employee of the church has had a run-in with the law. In March, the former children’s minster at the church, Jeff Eddie, was sentenced to 30 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to sodomy, sexual abuse of a child and possession of child pornography.
