UPDATE::Family of accused BB gun shooter fears release from jail - KMSP-TV

Last week, a man used a BB gun to shoot two gay men outside the Saloon in downtown Minneapolis, but a letter sent to the FBI and other authorities suggests things could get worse if he gets out of jail.

Police identified Wayne Odegard as the suspected gunman who opened fire after yelling gay slurs outside the popular gay bar. Days later, his sibling sent a letter to the several law enforcement agencies, including the Hennepin County Attorney's Office, to say that if Odegard is released from jail, they believe he will seriously injure or kill a member of the gay community.

During Odegard's arrest, he was apparently reciting scripture -- a passage Erickson believes is from Deuteronomy. Now, however, Odegard is facing charges of terroristic threats and reckless disregard. He remains in jail for now -- and his family hopes he'll stay there. In a letter to Fox 9 News, Odegard's sibling wrote, "I fear if released from jail, he will escalate this behavior and seriously injure or kill a member of the gay community."

Family members described Odegard as a religious activist with a history of mental health issues and insists it is his mission to change and eradicate homosexuals. Freeman has said serious allegations of mental illness would result in an examination -- but either way, the crime he allegedly committed on Thursday has no place in any community. If he is tried and convicted, he could face 5 years in prison.
