Richard Sheridan pleads no contest to ‘666’ graffiti targeting gay community | | Dallas Morning News

Richard Sheridan, a frequent speaker before the Dallas City Council, has pleaded no contest to spray-painting “666” on the Legacy of Love Monument at Cedar Springs and Oak Lawn and the Cathedral of Hope during the summer of 2014.
Sheridan won’t serve any jail time, and it’s yet to be determined how much, if anything, he will have to pay for his crime — which he now admits he committed out of “bias and prejudice” toward the gay community.

According to documents filed Feb. 8, Sheridan admitted to “intentionally and knowingly” tagging the church’s driveway as well as the Oak Lawn monument. He also confessed to picking those locations because of their significance to the LGBT community.

He “did intentionally select the said property damaged and affected … because of his bias and prejudice against a group identified by sexual preference,” court documents state.

The formal charges carry a jail sentence of two to 10 years and a fine not to exceed $10,000.

But under a plea agreement Sheridan signed, his attorney Josh Healy, Dallas County District Attorney Susan Hawk and assistant district attorney Gary McDonald, Sheridan won’t spend any time behind bars, nor will he be fined.
