UPDATED::Warren Jeffs, FLDS Church owe ex-child bride $16 million, judge rules | fox13now.com

UPDATE:: Utah’s largest polygamous church owes millions in court judgments
When he's sentenced, polygamist leader Lyle Jeffs is expected to owe $1 million in restitution to taxpayers for food stamp fraud.

Add that to the back wages he and the Fundamentalist LDS Church owe for a 2012 child labor violation.

There's also $16 million the FLDS Church and its leader, Warren Jeffs (a brother of Lyle Jeffs), owe now to ex-child bride Elissa Wall. And $30 million owed to his ex-bodyguard, Willie Jessop.

Warren Jeffs has consistently refused to answer many lawsuits filed against him and the FLDS Church, so default judgments have been entered against them. Now comes the hard part -- collecting.
A judge has ordered polygamist leader Warren Jeffs and his Utah-based church to pay a former child bride millions in a lawsuit.

In a ruling handed down Tuesday and obtained by FOX 13, Elissa Wall was awarded more than $16 million in damages stemming from her marriage at age 14 to her cousin back in 2001 in a ceremony presided over by Jeffs.

“The judgment handed down by the Court is a big step forward in the fight for a strong and unmovable statement to the world that no one, especially children, can be sexually exploited and abused in the name of religion,” Wall said in a statement to FOX 13. “The message sent by this judgment of justice and accountability will hopefully be heard as a loud and clear warning to anyone who would choose to act in the same manner as that of Warren Jeffs and the FLDS Church.”
