As Dan notes, all this bill is doing is rewarding bullying and harassment.

A bill in Kentucky is offering to pay students $2,500 if they “catch” a trans student in the “wrong” bathroom, meaning a bathroom designated for anything other than the students gender assigned to them at birth.

The bills sponsor, Republican state Sen. C.B. Embry says the bill is not bigoted and that he supports anti-bullying legislation and says he has a gay friend.

While claiming he supports anti-bullying legislation, he is sponsoring a bill that pays students to conduct such bullying. Bullying is not only physical assault, but is also the psychological abuse of shaming students for using the bathroom of the gender in which a student identifies.

Disturbing accusations from parents at a Fresno school. They claim an eight-year-old bully had sexual contact with their kids and the school didn't do anything about it. A lawsuit filed this week accuses the school of basically sweeping the problem under the rug. But administrators said they did everything right.

The St. Anthony's Campus didn't feel like a safe place anymore to a couple boys as of a few months ago. The seven and eight-year-olds told their parents another boy bullied them, and the trouble included comments and acts of a sexual nature. The parents took it up with school administrators, and from there, ABC30 legal analyst Tony Capozzi said two things needed to happen. "Once the school is put on notice, one, they have to notify the police, and two, they should do something to make sure this doesn't happen again."

The parents feel neither of those things happened, so they filed a lawsuit accusing the school of negligence. Their attorney, Warren Paboojian, told Action News "The school failed to properly report it and conducted their own investigation, Which was inadequate."

A 12-year-old middle-school student in Folsom, Cailf., committed suicide this week and friends and family say relentless anti-gay bullying was the cause because the boy was on the cheerleading squad last year.

Ronin Shimizu died shortly before 3 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Sacramento County coroner’s office.

Police have not released any additional information regarding Ronin’s death, other than to say it was “non-suspicious,” a term they use to describe natural death, accidental death or suicide.

But friends and parents said Ronin took his own life because of ongoing bullying.

A Virginia teen who was brutally beaten and left with a traumatic brain injury following a school melee in September, was found guilty Friday on one count of simple assault.

Eric Martin, 14, a former student at Highland Springs High School in Henrico, Va., was charged with two counts of assault but said it was bullying that started it all, reports WTVR-TV.

“Nobody should be bullied the way I was bullied. And I’m only guilty of being myself,” Martin added.

A Virginia high school boy who spent nine days in the hospital after a brutal antigay attack is being charged with assault because he reportedly snapped and made the mistake of throwing the first punch.

Richmond’s Channel 12 News reported that Eric Martin was attacked by at least four other boys who left him with a serious concussion and multiple broken bones.

“A head injury,” noted Eric’s mother Mary Martin. “A broken hand. That’s not just a fight. That’s a beating. That’s a vicious beating.”

Mary Martin said that the gang assault was the culmination of a prolonged campaign of bullying, in which Martin’s tormentors regularly showered him with antigay slurs and epithets and catcalled him as they shadowed him through the halls of Highland Springs High School in Henrico.

The irate mom said that her son may have thrown the first punch, but school officials had consistently turned a blind eye to Eric’s constant abuse at the hands of certain boys at school.

Family advocate Tammy Mottola is working with the school district on behalf of the Martins.

I want to know why this child was called a "devil worshipper" [sic]? Why did that make him a target of an attack? And is this bullying or an outright criminal assault?

I was both a bully and a victim to which I put and end to both. I discovered I did not like to hit, hurting other people just wasn't my thang; I also didn't like to be called names, "squirrel face," "brick house," "dyke" etc.. I survived by using words to my advantage. (Nothing like pissing someone off using words they would have to go home look up in a dictionary.) I wasn't coddled, but I had resources that I am guessing aren't available today or do people just not care?

A 13-year-old boy attending a junior high school in Illinois was brutally beaten by a group of classmates this week after months of bullying, and the video of the fight was later posted online.

Anthony Avila, of Joliet, suffered a concussion and injuries to his face in the altercation, which took place after school Monday.

Avila transferred to Gompers Junior High School in Joliet five months ago.

The shy 13-year-old, still bearing red bruises on his nose and left eye from the recent attack, said he was expecting a warm welcome from his new schoolmates, but instead he became the target of cruel taunting.

'People would call me names [like] the devil worshipper,' he told ABC 7 Chicago. 'I'd never talk to anyone because I was shy.'

I am not sure what is more disturbing, the acts she committed or the fact they dropped her to juvy status,,,

A 17-year-old Maryland girl accused of assaulting an autistic boy pleaded "responsible" to two misdemeanor charges after her case was transferred from adult to juvenile court.

She was originally charged with false imprisonment, child pornography solicitation, and first-degree assault stemming from abuses authorities say she and a 15-year-old girl inflicted on the 16-year-old boy: holding him at knifepoint, forcing him to walk on a frozen lake, and attempting to force him to have sex with a dog.

The move of the case back to Juvenile Court was a setback for the state which wanted to try her as an adult. Judge Densford in making his ruling said the evidence was that Bush had no remorse for what she did but was only concerned about the impact on her life. At one point she told police, “I can’t go to jail I have a project due tomorrow.”

Judge Densford called the girl’s actions outrageous. He said, “Why would any human being treat n someone like this – because they could because he was vulnerable.

Assistant State’s Attorney John Pleisse said the case involved Bush, and a 15-year-old co-defendant dragging the autistic boy by the hair and holding a knife to his head at one point, and on another occasion forcing him to go out onto an ice-covered creek and not helping him when he fell through.

There also are allegations of a “sex act” being filmed. Bush was quoted as saying, “We should have erased the video. It was stupid.

 

Shamed: How The UMC contributed to my son's death

I came across this story a day or two ago and it is heartbreaking. As I sat and continued to read, tears of sadness came forth and then anger. No child (or family) should ever have to endure what is highlighted in this piece. There is a saying that has been attributed to the late Christopher Hitchens, "Religion poisons everything. As well as a menace to civilization, it has become a threat to human survival." I believe this story bares that thought out all too well.

After reading through this, a thought kept coming to mind, this youth pastor is deeply conflicted with his own sexuality. I would also bet that his invective was really aimed toward his own self-hatred and self-loathing; something taught by his church. It is for that reason I find religion so very dangerous as it is a learned response, one that is taught with impunity:

"The UMC has a Book of Discipline that states: The practice of homosexuality is incompatible with Christian teaching. Now, I have a question. Did this youth pastor behave in or out of the culture created by the words in the United Methodist Book of Discipline? I think he behaved in line with our Book of Discipline. (Sin, unworthy, undeserving, not comfortable around you, going to hell-words that delivered the message that homosexuality is incompatible with Christian teaching!)"

What troubles me is the paragraph immediately following, and why I firmly believe that one can not separate the man made dogma of a church from (denominational) interpretations of the Bible.

"I however, do not, believe that The UMC would knowingly sanction such ignorance and abuse. Of course no one intended for this to happen. Many people have grieved for my Ben. Still, our Methodist messages are contradictory and confusing. Open Hearts, Open Doors, Open Minds... but our message is that a gay person does not measure up to Christian teachings? This confusion opens the door to hurtful situations."

Yes the UMC would knowingly sanction such abuse, it's in their Book of Discipline, where do you think this asshate youth minister learned it? He believed he was doing the work of the church and mom just defended that religious dogma.

I do hope that this mother and family are able to heal from the wounds inflicted not just by their church, but by society as a whole. Too many times this story is played out quietly, without any of us knowing. I applaud this mom for coming forward and baring her soul, it takes much courage to do so!!
