A lawsuit by Sexual Minorities Uganda, an LGBT advocacy group,
alleges that Lively conspired with Ugandan religious and political
leaders since 2002 to strip gays of their rights in that country that
has resulted in housing and employment discrimination, arrest, torture
and the murder of gays and lesbians. The case, filed in 2012, is
expected to go to trial early next year in a U.S. district court in
Massachusetts. If convicted, Lively could face a fine.
“He’s very clear that you have to silence LGBT people and eradicate
them politically,” said Pam Spees, an attorney with the Center for
Constitutional Rights, a New York-based nonprofit that is representing
the Ugandan advocacy group in the case.
,,,
Sexual Minorities Uganda and the Center for Constitutional Rights
contend that Lively’s presentations in workshops in 2009 and 2012
influenced a 2013 Uganda law, which initially called for life in prison
for people who engage in same-sex relations. Later the law was revised to also punish individuals or groups that support gays. After
international outrage, the constitutional court in Uganda overturned
the law in August 2014 on a technicality, but lawmakers have said they
will revive the bill.
Critics say another proposed law, which seeks to restrict nonprofits
from operating in Uganda, could also be used to outlaw groups working
with LGBT people.
“The situation there is very fraught and perilous,” Spees said.
“There are so many violations happening in Uganda, and people are
suffering. This case is part of a larger effort to keep it from getting
worse.”
Mass. pastor Scott Lively faces possible fine for harsh anti-gay efforts in Uganda - Religion News Service
Welcome to H&C,,, where I aggregate news of interest. Primary topics include abuse with "the church", LGBTQI+ issues, cults - including anti-vaxxers, and the Dominionist and Theocratic movements. Also of concern is the anti-science movement with interest in those that promote garbage like homeopathy, chiropractic and the like. I am an atheist and anti-theist who believes religious mythos must be die and a strong supporter of SOCAS.

Without acceptance you still have stigma!!
I am not a fan of Rick Warren's, I do not support any of his teachings. But I do grieve for them in the loss of their son Matthew. No parent (family or friend) should should ever have to face the reality of suicide. But this scares the shit out of me,,,
Please explain to me WTF is "surrender," "sanctification," and "service?" Those are not part of the stages of grief I learned back in the day. (Athlo Kubler-Ross's work has been misconstrued as a research study of grief and bereavement, her observations are still valid in regards to some key emotional reactions to the experience of the dying.) If I would have surrendered to my illness I would not be sitting here today. I would be a pile of ashes sitting on some shelf, hidden away. Sorry Mr Warren, my life and Matthew's life are worth a shitload more than to be stored in some box, tucked away in a closet full of other long forgotten memories. It sounds as if you gave up on Matthew long before he gave up on himself. And I do apologize for sounding harsh but I fear that Mr Warren's profession of choice is clouding the realities of life. Just as you cannot pray the gay away, you can not pray away mental illness.
OH! how dare I say that!! Well do you see what is missing in his little paradigm? Where the fuck is acceptance? Without acceptance you still have stigma!!
Rick Warren Preaches First Sermon Since His Son’s Suicide: Almost four months after their son committed suicide, Pastor Rick Warren and his wife Kay addressed their congregation for the first time, promising to remove the stigma of mental illness from the church
- Rick then made a promise: Saddleback’s next big ministry push will be to remove the stigma associated with mental illness in the church. “Your illness is not your identity, your chemistry is not your character,” he told people struggling with mental illness.
- To their families, he said, “We are here for you, and we are in this together.” There is hope for the future: “God wants to take your greatest loss and turn it into your greatest life message.”
- For the next six Sundays, Rick will preach a sermon series entitled, “How To Get Through What You’re Going Through.” He will devote a message to each of the six stages of grief: shock, sorrow, struggle, surrender, sanctification, and service.

- A larger program to address the specifics of mental illness has yet to be revealed, but it will be similar, Rick said, to the way their church has helped to tackle the HIV crisis.

Pope Benedict XVI offers blessing for Ugandan homophobia | God Discussion
The groups that have been most active in Uganda include the National Organization for Marriage, and California mega church pastor, Rick Warren. Frequent visits to Uganda have been on the agenda of the religious right for years, and their activities include spreading anti-gay sentiment, increasing homophobia and peppering the country with propaganda that includes pedophilia by homosexual, the destruction of heterosexual marriage and families in general, and the wholesale spread of the AIDS virus.

Rick Warren: Aurora shooting the fault of evolution - National atheism | Examiner.com
I have tried to maintain a modicum of silence concerning the events in aurora out of deference to the victims and families and all those involved,,,but this just galls me, and what little respect I had for warren just disappeared,,,Mr Warren you need to return to high school,,,evolution means change, to become different,, it is not a cause for the tragedy that occurred,,,
Animals do not kill for pleasure or ideologies, they kill out of survival and necessity,,,to bring religious (or political) rhetoric into the discussion, especially at this time, IMHO is disgusting,,,no one knows why Holmes did what he did and to speculate is an injustice to all involved,,,
Mr Warren you may want to also re-read your bible both man and animals suffer he same fate,,,

Ecc.3 :19 For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity.(and yes I am aware I am cherry picking)
