UPDATE:: Former pastor sentenced in attempted child rapeGrundy County Sheriff Clint Shrum says the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office has arrested William E. “Tim” Smith, Jr. , a pastor who is charged with sexual misconduct with a 12-year-old girl.
William E. “Tim” Smith has entered a guilty plea and been sentenced for attempted rape of a child stemming from his May 31, 2018 arrest. He was sentenced in a Grundy County Court today and received a prison term of 9 years, 6 months.
Smith, a Church of God pastor in Palmer at the time, was found by deputies in a truck (in Gruetli-Laager near Ross Creek) with a 13-year-old female. When deputies found him, he was in the truck, laying on top of the young girl. Deputies knocked on the truck’s window and Smith jumped up, pulling up his pants, while the young girl pulled down her skirt.

The deputies were looking for a stolen 4-wheeler on Ross Creek Road near Gruetli-Laager when they discovered the truck with Smith, Jr. and the girl inside.
Sheriff Shrum says he was also found in possession of legend and Schedule II prescription drugs.
According to the report, Smith, Jr. identified himself as the pastor of a church in Palmer.
The national website for the Church of God International Office lists Smith, Jr. as the pastor of the Palmer Church, located at 1848 Main Street.
