Stanislaus County youth minister arrested in sex sting

A man who was working as a youth minister in Stanislaus County was nabbed Tuesday as part of an undercover sex sting operation, the sheriff's office said.

Raymond Leon Brau, who also goes by the alias Raymond Thiago, is considered a high-risk sex offender, according to the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office.

Brau is accused of trying to meet a 13-year-old girl in order to have sex with her, Lathrop’s acting police chief Ryan Biedermann said. When he realized he was about to be arrested Friday, he ran away, almost hitting Biedermann with his vehicle.

The Megan’s Law database shows Brau is a sex offender convicted on charges of sexual battery, annoying or molesting a child under 18 and indecent exposure.

He has been arrested several times in Sacramento County on charges including sexual battery, records show. In 2011, Sacramento police said he exposed himself and inappropriately touched 16- and 17-year-old girls.
