A former Hays County church deacon began a 10-year prison sentence Monday after pleading guilty to inappropriately touching his granddaughter and another young girl from the church over multiple occasions in the early 2000s.
Charles
Sweet, 85, appeared in Travis County state District Judge Brad
Urrutia’s courtroom and pleaded guilty to two counts of indecency with a
child by sexual contact. He must serve five years of the sentence
before he is eligible for parole.

The plea came through an agreement that Sweet’s lawyer worked out
with prosecutors just six months after a Travis County grand jury
returned an indictment against him in May. According to attorney David
Glickler, Sweet is suffering from a significant medical condition and
wanted to expedite the resolution of the case with a courtroom
confession before his health deteriorated further. Glickler did not give
details about Sweet’s condition.
85-year-old ex-deacon at Hays County church gets 10 years for molesting girls - News - Austin American-Statesman - Austin, TX
Welcome to H&C,,, where I aggregate news of interest. Primary topics include abuse with "the church", LGBTQI+ issues, cults - including anti-vaxxers, and the Dominionist and Theocratic movements. Also of concern is the anti-science movement with interest in those that promote garbage like homeopathy, chiropractic and the like. I am an atheist and anti-theist who believes religious mythos must be die and a strong supporter of SOCAS.
