It was the deadliest workplace accident in New York City’s history. A dropped match on the 8th floor of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory sparked a fire that killed over a hundred innocent people trapped inside. The private industry of the American factory would never be the same.

Fire Kills 112 Workers Making Clothes for US Brands - Yahoo! News

First thing I thought of when I heard about this was the Triangle Shirtwaist factory fire in NYC on march 25, 1911,,,it was that fire that led to legislation requiring improved factory safety standards,,,

Officials in Bangladesh said the flames at the Tazreen Fashions factory outside Dhaka spread rapidly on the ground floor, trapping those on the higher floors of the nine-story building. There were no exterior fire escapes, according to officials, and many died after jumping from upper floors to escape the flames.

Because the managers had locked the doors to the stairwells and exits – a common practice at the time to prevent pilferage and unauthorized breaks– many of the workers who could not escape the burning building jumped from the eighth, ninth, and tenth floors to the streets below. Guess we really do not learn from our mistakes,,,sigh
