A former teacher at a Maine Christian school has been sentenced by a judge to 2.5 years behind bars after pleading guilty to having sex with a student.

Nancy Leigh Ann Brann, who taught at Coastal Christian School in Waldoboro, pleaded guilty last month to gross sexual assault and unlawful sexual contact. Some of the encounters happened in the classroom in 2016.

The Bangor Daily News reports that Superior Court Justice Daniel Billings said Tuesday that Brann "abused a position of authority and trust" and maintained contact with the victim after she was fired.

A 37-year-old teacher is behind bars for allegedly having a relationship with a 15-year-old student.

Police arrested Derek Michael Boyce on September 21, and charged him with one count of gross sexual assault. Boyce was a teacher at Pine Tree Academy in Freeport which is a Seventh-day Adventist school for grades K–12.

Lisbon Police Chief Marc Hagan said they believe that Boyce and the student had an ongoing relationship.

”It was more than one incident. It appears to be an ongoing situation," said Chief Hagan.

A former Catholic priest, who already served prison time for molesting boys in Massachusetts, pleaded guilty Monday to sexually assaulting a 9-year-old boy in Freeport in the late 1990s.

A judge sentenced James F. Talbot, 80, to 10 years in prison with all but three of those suspended for sexually assaulting a minor under the age of 14, and three years, to be served at the same time, for unlawful sexual contact with a minor under the age of 14.

The boy Talbot molested, now a 30-year-old man, told a Portland court that the former priest stole his childhood and his faith. “What was supposed to be a man from God … turned out to be a disgusting animal,” he said.

A former Jesuit priest who taught and coached at Cheverus High School for nearly two decades before being fired in 1998 is scheduled to be arraigned in Portland on charges he sexually assaulted a minor in Freeport nearly 20 years ago.

A grand jury indictment dated Nov. 9 and obtained by the Press Herald on Tuesday identifies the priest as 80-year-old James Francis Talbot of Dittmer, Missouri.

The indictment charges Talbot with gross sexual assault, a Class A offense, and with unlawful sexual contact, a Class C offense.

Midcoast Youth Theater co-founder pleads not guilty to latest sexual abuse charges - Portland Press Herald

 

Henry A. Eichman, a youth theater group founder already indicted on 18 counts of sexual abuse of children, pleaded not guilty Tuesday to two additional sexual abuse charges in Cumberland County.

Eichman, who worked in the drama department at a Brunswick Catholic school and co-founded the Midcoast Youth Theater, now faces 16 counts of sexual abuse in Sagadahoc County and four other counts in Cumberland County. He was indicted this month on the two newest charges by a grand jury. Eichman had already pleaded not guilty to the first 18 charges.

Maine governor stops rules for protecting transgender students – LGBTQ Nation

LePage needs to crawl back into the hole he emerged from and let the professionals do their thing.  As the article notes, "[t]he positive thing about this is most school systems are already moving in this direction anyway”.

Gov. Paul LePage is stopping the Maine Human Rights Commission and the Department of Education from issuing rules protecting transgender students. Schools instead are being given guidelines that lack the force of law.

“The governor is violating the law by refusing to let the rule-making go forward,” she said. “He’s putting our students at risk.”

Richard Durost, executive director of the Maine Principals’ Association, said the vast majority of Maine’s high schools have already addressed the points in the guidelines, such as allowing transgender students to play sports with teams corresponding with their gender identity.

One of two Brunswick men indicted by the federal grand jury last week for allegedly conspiring to defraud the Internal Revenue Service of hundreds of thousands of dollars claimed Wednesday that the charges are invalid because the IRS is unconstitutional.

David E. Robinson, 75, said Wednesday that he will not appear in court Friday morning to face charges of conspiracy to defraud the United States by impeding and impairing the IRS.

F. William Messier, 70, who is charged with the same crime, as well as with failing to file federal tax returns and failing to pay federal income tax on nearly $400,000 from rental space on communication towers he owns in Brunswick, also will not appear, according to Robinson.

Messier could not be reached for comment on Wednesday, but Robinson provided a copy of a letter the two men sent to U.S. District Court Clerk Christa Berry in response to a criminal summons compelling them to appear on Friday.

In the letter, Robinson argues that the federal grand jury process that led to his and Messier’s indictment was unconstitutional and improperly targeted.

ADDENDUM::Christian host on transgender rights: ‘Liberals demand public access to rape your girls’

Dr. “Chaps” Gordon Klingenschmitt, a Navy chaplain who turned to hosting a Christian Internet show after being court martialed, warned his followers this week that liberals wanted to visually “rape your girls” by giving transgender people equal rights.

In an email to supporters over the weekend, Klingenschmitt lashed out at a recent Maine Supreme Court ruling that said a transgender girl should be able to use the school bathroom that corresponded to her gender.

“‘Transgenders’ want your children,” he wrote in the email obtained by Right Wing Watch. “Liberals demand public access to rape your girls, at least visually in public bathrooms, or to expose themselves to your girls at school, without parental consent or protection of any kind.”

Klingenschmitt advised parents in Maine to “immediately remove their children from public schools, and teach them at home.”

Ex-Navy chaplain tells transgender girl: ‘Man up’ or get a ‘spanking’ and an exorcism

A Navy chaplain who turned to Internet evangelism after being court martialed said this week that a transgender girl should “man up” or face a spanking and an exorcism to rid her body of demons.

On the Wednesday broadcast of his Pray in Jesus Name show, Dr. “Chaps” Gordon Klingenschmitt expressed his outraged at a recent Maine Supreme Court ruling that said a transgender girl should be able to use the school bathroom that corresponded to her gender.

“Little girls should not be exposed to little boy parts!” Klingenschmitt explained. “Talk about mental health problems. The mental health problem is in the child who’s confused.”

The Pray in Jesus Name host argued that since the transgender girl had an identical twin brother, that she couldn’t possibly identify with another gender.

Now, to add insult to injury, The University of Maine, Presque Isle — anybody here been up there to see that damn windmill in the back yard? Guess what, if it’s not blowing wind outside and they have somebody visiting the campus, they have a little electric motor that turns the blades. I’m serious. They have an electric motor so they can show people that wind power works. Unbelievable. And that’s the government that you have here in the state of Maine.

Citizens of Maine are taking steps of their own toward a clean energy future. In March, a citizen committee overturned a state decision to deny a 14-turbine project on Passadumkeag Mountain. The Commissioner had denied it because of the visual effect it would have on the area, not for any other environmental reason. Governor LePage couldn’t help but weigh in at the news: “While the initial and largely taxpayer-funded investment in wind power projects may be attractive to some, one-of-a-kind views like the ones from Saponac Pond have great value…. I am deeply disappointed in the Board of Environmental Protection’s decision.”
