In a moment strangely reminiscent of Marilyn Monroe's famous birthday serenade for US president John F Kennedy, former NBA basketball player Dennis Rodman led a chorus of Happy Birthday at an exhibition match marking the North Korean dictator's birthday.
"It started out as surreal, then people joined in and it sort of faded a bit, but it seemed pretty heartfelt from Rodman's side," said Simon Cockerell, a tour guide who watched the game in Pyongyang, said of Rodman's birthday singing.
"It was unexpected, and probably unplanned," he said. "Kim Jong Un appeared to smile, but he didn't appear to expect it."

Kenneth Bae's Family Slams Dennis Rodman's 'Outrageous' Comments - Yahoo
The family of Kenneth Bae, an American citizen detained in North Korea, is "outraged" by former NBA star Dennis Rodman's comments suggesting that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un was right to detain the missionary.
"Dennis Rodman could do a lot of good by advocating for Kenneth to Kim Jong-un, but instead he has decided to hurl outrageous accusations at my brother, insinuating that Kenneth has done something sinister," Bae's sister, Terri Chung, said in a statement today.
"He is clearly uninformed about Kenneth's case, and he is certainly not in any position to pass judgment on Kenneth Bae, who has never any hostile intentions against the DPRK," she added.

I am a bit baffled.
First off, I really do not understand why Drod is traveling to N. Korea in the first place. I'm not a "fan" of his so following his antics has never been a priority. Has he made any statements as to his what his goal he trying to accomplish besides publicity? Basketball diplomacy?
My second concern regards Bae, and I'm going to come off as sounding uncaring and harsh, but why was Bae even in N. Korea to begin with? I have always (even when I considered missionary work as a career path) held the position that if you willing go into a foreign county, you play by their rules. Granted N. Korea's charges are most likely BS (committing "hostile acts" against North Korea or I've seen is stated as trying to overthrow the North Korean government ) but "unauthorized" missionary work is verboten especially within a communist country. Why then put yourself in a position to be arrested, then cry foul when you are arrested?
N. Korea is a tinder box waiting to ignite. DRod himself has done some unusual things in his life, and well I'm not so sure about his psychological stability. Then there is Kim Jong-un who executed his former girlfriend and more recently his own uncle. He doesn't seem to be the brightest bulb on a string concerning human rights.
This whole fiasco is well, surreal.

Former NBA star Dennis Rodman has taken serious criticism over his ongoing relationship with North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un, and his resistance of pressure to leverage that relationship for the release of imprisoned American Kenneth Bae. In an interview with CNN New Day host Chris Cuomo, which aired Tuesday morning, Rodman went a step further, essentially accusing Bae of some unspecified offense, and bellowing his way through the balance of the interview.
Former NBA star Charles Smith, who had been acting as the group’s spokesman to this point in the interview, tried his best to wrangle Rodman, but when Cuomo asked about Bae, an incensed Rodman waved Smith off.
“Are you going to take an opportunity, if you get it, to speak up for the family of Kenneth Bae and say, Let us know why this man is being held?’ If you can help them, will you take the opportunity?” Cuomo asked.
