Twatwaffles for Week Ending 4/17/22

To start, this is Ian Mackey's (not a Reich member) https://twitter.com/AdamParkhomenko/status/1515065449742061575 comment to Republican Chuck Basye (maybe Reich) during a debate over whether school districts should be allowed to ban trans athletes from youth sports. As numerous comments point out, “Don't tell someone you love them, and then vote for someone that will hurt them.”

As I have said prior, if said athlete meets all the requirements set forth by the governing body of the sport he/she wishes to partake in, it ends there. As Martha Stevens https://twitter.com/LynzforCongress/status/1514930635634544641 so rightly stated, these are attacks on children.

The provision was approved 89-40 after three hours of debate.

This comment says it well, https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=719381915858593

I can no longer find people like this funny. They're dangerous, because people actually listen to their half baked ignorance.

I know I shouldn't give individuals such as Mr Howley the time of day but the second you ignore them all hell breaks lose. Like maybe a civil war or some stupid shit. (I should note I have not seen Howley call for such.)

Me thinks that MTG has her priorities a bit screwed up. https://twitter.com/RepMTG/status/1513211658763657219 It only takes one time for a coupe to be successful. The disruption it causes are immeasurable.

It ain't over till every last one of you are in jail. And Wong did not misquote you. And while I'm thinking of it, I sure would hate to have your statement fact check. I don't think you would do so well.

So someone married 25+ years and with kids, Hamm sure has no idea as to the logistics to what she proposes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8uc4VyQwfR0 Not only logistics, but cost. I have been voting since 1982 and I cannot remember ever voting in a neighbor's garage!

As one comment notes, https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=288054296702931

So basically she wants to pick and choose which technology is used to ensure the disenfranchisement of as many people as possible who are unlikely to back her reactionary politics.

This is Senator Frank Nicely (R-Tenn). https://twitter.com/maddow/status/1514677566220681224 He's an idiot.

Hitler?? Seriously?? There are numerous choices for examples Nicely could have chose.

That aside for the moment,,, homelessness is NOT a choice, no one decides to live on the streets. Nobody should be punished for their living situation.

And trust me, I am speaking from experience. And while I did have a safe place to sleep and eat – in the basement of my place of employ. It was 9 months of hell before acquiring A ROOM to rent.

And finally,,,

I present Baldy Catz, https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCDxlgsavmsKWG2XjikF_ehw/featured a YTer that deals with the science around flat earth and other conspiracies.

TWATs for Week Ending 4/10/22

Sooooo,,,

MTG has been busy this week. As TPM notes, https://talkingpointsmemo.com/morning-memo/gop-turns-qanon-pedophilia-accusations-inward-mtg-romney-collins-murkowski-kentanji-brown-jackson

After Sens. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Susan Collins (R-ME) and Mitt Romney (R-UT) announced they would support the confirmation of Ketanji Brown Jackson’s to the Supreme Court, far-right Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) started trafficking in the most vile of QAnon tropes,,,

Now to be very clear, Greene is NOT the first nor only QOP member to make such an accusation or imply it. “During Jackson's confirmation hearings, several Republicans twisted her record and obscured the facts to suggest that she was soft on pedophiles.“ https://www.cnn.com/2022/04/05/opinions/marjorie-taylor-greene-smear-kbj-filipovic/index.html

As opined by Filipovic,

Greene's comments, as well as her party members' false accusations, do additional damage beyond simply trashing a superlative nominee like Jackson. They also feed into the QAnon conspiracy theory that has bolstered support for former President Donald Trump and years ago took hold of the right-wing fringe -- and seems to be expanding its purview.

In other MTG news, https://www.usatoday.com/story/entertainment/2022/04/07/marjorie-taylor-greene-jimmy-kimmel-police/9501031002/ she can dish it out, but can't stand the heat.

,,,the host of "Jimmy Kimmel Live,” joked this week that Greene was “especially upset with the three Republican senators who said they’ll vote yes on Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, who’s nominated for the Supreme Court.”

She tweeted ‘Murkowski, Collins, and Romney are pro-pedophile,’” Kimmel said.

Wow, where is Will Smith when you really need him?” Kimmel said, appearing to reference Will Smith slapping Chris Rock onstage at the Oscars last month.

Greene shared a clip of the comments on Twitter, adding “this threat of violence against me by @jimmykimmel has been filed with the  @CapitolPolice."  https://twitter.com/RepMTG/status/1511816972610244615

Full disclosure, I am a non-insulin dependent diabetic on Medicaid.

While this story https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2022/04/05/matt-gaetz-insulin-cost-increases-waistlines/9467445002/ currently does not effect me, it may in a few years.

Rep. Matt Gaetz justified his vote against a bill that would cap insulin at $35 a month for most Americans by suggesting people with diabetes should first lose weight before Congress steps in to help.

The Florida Republican claimed on Twitter on Thursday and in his newsletter a day later that obese people, not pharmaceutical companies, are running up the drug's price, writing that insulin's cost "increases as waistlines increase."

"While Democrat posturing of H.R. 6833 victimizes insulin payees as people with an uncontrollable disease that are being taken advantage of and need Big Brother to throw them a raft, lifestyle changes en masse would expeditiously lower demand and the subsequent prices of insulin,” Gaetz wrote.

Two issues with Gaetz et al.

Insulin has been available for 100+ years and is fairly cheap to produce. Manufacturers of insulin know that patients will spend whatever it takes to acquire it. No one should have to choose between taking their medication as prescribed and putting food on the table or a roof over their head.

Issue number two, as I highlighted last week concerning a Cathy McMorris Rodgers tweet, Some members of the QOP hold to the stance of defending the right of greedy capitalists to be greedy capitalists.

Basically it comes down to Gaetz et al doing a fine job at ignoring the reality of the global market. As I mentioned last week, injectable insulin can range anywhere from $25-$300 per vial. There is no means to justify a 1200% price increase other than greed. Moreover, diabetics must also purchase glucose monitors, test strips, lancets, and other supplies.

If this doesn't scare you, it should!! It is right from the Reich's playbook. http://www.theocracywatch.org/taking_over_fifteen_percent.htm And BTW, notice the date, 1993.

Parties are very susceptible to being taken over by ideologues because lower party offices have no appeal to the vast majority of our citizenry. Many precincts are represented by no one. If you decide all of a sudden because it's your Christian duty to become a precinct representative, you only need a few votes to get elected. Increasingly, they have the key say so on who will be a delegate at the national convention, and who will write the party platform and nominate the presidential candidate.

Religious-right activist Rachel Hamm is running for secretary of state in California as a Republican because she claims Jesus appeared in her closet and told her to do so. Claiming that she has been designated by God “to expose lies, to speak truth, and to establish My Kingdom every single place that you step your foot,” Hamm says she began her campaign because she “would rather be dead than live in a communist country.”

On Wednesday, Hamm was interviewed by Craig Deluz of the California Republican Assembly, a conservative activist group that has endorsed her campaign. During the interview, Hamm announced that if elected, she intends to use her position as secretary of state to make it harder for people to vote. https://www.rightwingwatch.org/post/ca-gop-secretary-of-state-candidate-rachel-hamm-wants-to-make-it-hard-for-people-to-vote/

And FYI Rachel, voting is a right, not a privilege.

So Rachel, would the folks in this clip be prevented from voting? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OTi8ZfsUvPo

A knee-jerk response from many supporters of former President Donald Trump when they're asked who instigated the deadly Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol is that it was "antifa." But when asked to offer proof of that claim, the argument falls flat.

Case in point: comedian Jason Selvig recently questioned a Trump supporter about his belief that the 2020 election results were legitimately challenged by the anti-fascist movement.

As I was finishing this script, this bit of new popped in my feed. As I suspected, Logan is blaming anyone but herself. https://www.yahoo.com/news/lara-logan-compared-fauci-mengele-050003182.html

I was definitely pushed out,” Logan told Eric Metaxas, a conservative radio host, this week. “I mean, there is no doubt about that. They don’t want independent thinkers. They don’t want people who follow the facts regardless of the politics.”

Sorry to break it to ya lady, but comparing Dr Fauci with Joseph Mengele is not an example of being an independent thinker. You have become a tool of the Reich.

With that, I bring this episode to a close by introducing to you, World of Antiquity. https://www.youtube.com/c/WorldofAntiquity Professor Miano 's well thought out challenges to those who peddle pseudo-history. Miano is dedicated to education about ancient civilizations, cultures, and peoples.

Transcript - TWATs for Week Ending 3/13/22

Hi and welcome to TWATs episode 5.  This week is pretty busy so we are going to jump right in. But before we go that route, quick answer to a question I received. No, I have no plans for live content ATM. Regretfully my speech is not so great (IMO). Pre-recording allows me to edit my sound to where I think it is tolerable. Maybe with time that will change.

So to begin this week, I thought it would be good to get your blood roiling right from the start. Patrick Howley, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EsKlSewXoOg to borrow from Zachary Petrizzo at the Daily Dot, https://www.dailydot.com/debug/patrick-howley-joe-biden-far-right/

Patrick Howley seems to be a mouthpiece for every false smear the right wants to float into the online ether.”

From what I can gather and Petrizzo (and others) confirm

Howley has a history of blogging for right-wing outlets and a history of leaving those outlets on bad terms, even once going as far at Breitbart to express “skepticism” following a colleague’s assault. He also had to leave a role at the Daily Caller over racist, sexist tweets.”

From what I gather, this dude is a piece of work.

For years I got asked why I harped on about David Barton and his pseudo-history. When you teach people the garbage he spews, this is what we end up with. Two examples!!

Apparently he's never heard of amendments,,, https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=1898373093684260

Speaking at a campaign rally for Oklahoma MAGA pastor and Republican Senate candidate Jackson Lahmeyer https://www.alternet.org/2022/03/michael-flynn-us-constitution-creator/ Flynn incorrectly claimed that “the word ‘Creator’ is in the Constitution four times.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f0MXbnAv5gs

Whether Flynn meant to say the DOI or Constitution is of no matter as the DOI only mentions “the Creator” once. Also, the DOI is NOT a legal document.

While Barton's influence https://www.npr.org/2012/08/08/157754542/the-most-influential-evangelist-youve-never-heard-of has waned since his 2012 book debacle concerning The Jefferson Lies. It seems his false teachings are still prevalent.

,,,[I]t drives the secularists nuts because the Bible's all over it! Now we as Christians don't tend to recognize that. We think it's a secular document; we've bought into their lies. It's not."

(Keep in mind that quote is from 2012, although I highly doubt Barton's views have changed much and he is passing the torch to his son Tim.)

I have always believed that public health policy should be devoid of politics. https://www.latimes.com/world-nation/story/2022-03-08/florida-to-recommend-against-covid-vaccines-for-healthy-kids Obviously Florida Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo doesnt agree

Florida Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo said Monday that the state will formally recommend against COVID-19 vaccinations for healthy children.

,,,

The new guidance would run counter to recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that all children ages 5 to 7 should be vaccinated. Although children are generally less likely than adults to become severely ill with COVID-19, public health experts have underlined that vaccinations further reduce their risk and help prevent them from infecting others.

I have no nice way of stating it, but this is fucking stupid. This isn’t a position rooted in opposition to “government mandates”; it’s simply an anti-vaccination position, espoused by a state surgeon general, during a pandemic.

With that being said I bring this episode to a close with YTer Sir Sic. UK based social commentary with a satirical bent.

https://www.youtube.com/c/SirSicTheSocialInequalityCrusader

It's me again,,,

As I was writing up the script, this bit of news floated by. https://www.advocate.com/law/2022/3/11/texas-judge-blocks-probes-trans-kids-supportive-parents-statewide

A Texas judge Friday ordered a statewide halt to investigations of parents of transgender children under Gov. Greg Abbott's directive that claimed letting kids access gender-affirming care is child abuse.

,,,

She ruled (judge Amy Clark Meacham) that Abbott's order was not adopted properly and violated the Texas constitution, and that is could not be enforced while the lawsuit makes its way through the courts.

Very welcomed news but the fight is not over as a number of “Don't Say Gay” bills are being touted by the Reich. Florida the most prevalent and the closest to becoming law. https://www.nbcnews.com/nbc-out/out-politics-and-policy/dont-say-gay-bill-florida-senate-passes-controversial-lgbtq-school-mea-rcna19133

The Florida Senate passed a bill Tuesday that would prohibit “classroom discussion about sexual orientation or gender identity” in the state’s primary schools. The measure, dubbed the “Don’t Say Gay” bill by its opponents, was passed by the state House last month and now heads to Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, who has previously expressed support for it.
