,,,But if you’ve got some Antioch Farms Chicken Kiev sitting in your freezer, check the label because 29,000 pounds of the pre-stuffed chicken have been recalled for possible Salmonella contamination.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced Aspen Foods, a division of Koch Meats in Chicago, recalled 28,980 pounds of partial prepared chicken products sold under the Antioch Farms brand. 

The recall was initiated at the request of the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Services (FSIS) after Minnesota health officials and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention identified a cluster of salmonella cases that appeared to be connected to the product.

Nissan Recalls 1,848 Infiniti Vehicles Over Defective Takata Airbags

The number of vehicles recalled related to defective Takata airbags increased by more than 1,000 vehicles Friday, as Nissan issued a recall of luxury Infiniti vehicles.

According to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration notice [PDF], Nissan issued the recall after determining that 1,848 model year 2013 Infiniti QX56 and model year 2014 Infiniti QX80 vehicles may contain defective airbags made by the same company responsible for the recall of more than 8 million cars.

Ford Begins Its Own Recallapalooza With Five Recalls Totaling More Than 202,000 Cars

Ford announced the five North American recalls covering 202,241 vehicles for various reasons including an incorrect repair from a previous recall, airbag deployment issues and fuel lines that are improperly routed.

The first recall involves 38,645 model year 2005 to 2011 Ford Crown Victoria, Mercury Grand Marquis and Lincoln Town Car vehicles that many have been improperly repaired during a 2013 recall.

The second recall involves 27,597 model year 2014 Ford Transit Connect vehicles that may have incorrect fuel and vapor line routing.

The company’s third recall involves 960 model year 2014 Ford F-150 trucks for an issue that may cause the vehicle’s brake lights to delay illumination or not illuminate at all.

Nissan Recalls Nearly 16,000 Infiniti Hybrid Sedans For Transmission, Software Issues

A notice [PDF] from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration states that Nissan initiated the recall of 14,438 model year 2014 Q50 and Q70 hybrid sedans because the electric motor may stop running.

Nissan’s second recall of the day involves 1,641 model year 2014 Infiniti Q50, A70 and Q70L hybrid sedans with possible transmission housing issues.

According to NHTSA documents [PDF], the vehicles have automatic transmission housing that may have cracks caused during manufacturing.

Audi Recalls Nearly 102,000 Vehicles For Airbag Deployment Issues

Fresh off a recall of nearly a million vehicles, Audi issued another call back of nearly 102,000 cars for an airbag problem that could prevent the frontal safety devices from deploying.

According to a notice [PDF] from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Audi recalled 101,938 model year 2013 to 2015 A4 and S4 vehicles because of an issue that could prevent front airbags from deploying in a secondary crash.

Officials with the car maker say an improper algorithm and coding could prevent the frontal airbags from deploying.

Nissan Recalls 53,000 Sedans, SUVs For Takata Airbag Defect

According to a notice [PDF] posted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration the new recall involves 52,738 model year 2003 to 2004 Pathfinder, 2004 to 2006 Sentra, 2003 to 2005 Infiniti FX35 and FX45, 2003-2004 Infiniti I35 and the 2006 M35 and M45 vehicles.

The recall applies only to vehicles originally sold or currently registered in Puerto Rico, Hawaii, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, Saipan, American Samoa, Florida and adjacent counties in southern Georgia, as well as the coastal areas of Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.

Officials with Nissan say in the notice to NHTSA that airbags in the affected vehicles may rupture, sending metal fragments toward front-seat passengers in the event of a crash.

Mercedes Recalls Nearly 11,000 Vehicles For Loss Of Steering Issue 

According to a notice [PDF] from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Mercedes-Benz recalled 10,509 model year 2015 C300 and C400 vehicles in the United States because they may lose steering power while traveling at low speeds.

Officials with Mercedes say the recall was initiated after two incidents from outside the U.S. alleging loss of steering.

It was determined that the vehicle’s sliding shaft, which is part of the steering column, could become disengaged from the steering coupling socket due to vibrations, steering thrust, or load feedback from the road surface. If the shaft disengages, the vehicle may lose steering control, which could increase the risk of a crash.

Ford Expands Ranger Recall By Nearly 10,000 Trucks Over Takata Airbag Defect

The number of vehicles affected by potentially defective Takata airbags continues to grow. This time it comes from Ford, with the manufacturer expanding its previous recall regarding the Ranger pickup truck, bringing the total number of affected trucks to 23,713.

Bloomberg reports the 9,792 vehicle expansion came after a fifth death was tied to Takata airbags in Malaysia last week.

While the vehicle linked to the latest death was a Honda model, the airbag used in the car is similar to, but not the same as the safety device used in model year 2004 to 2005 Ford Rangers.

Chrysler Recalls 33,000 Trucks, SUVs, And Minivans For Tire Pressure Problems – Consumerist

Chrysler continues its recall roll this week, issuing two more notices calling back more than 33,000 vehicles for issues related to tire pressure monitoring systems.

The car manufacturer announced the recall of 10,390 model year 2014 Jeep Wranglers, Dodge Grand Caravans and Chrysler Town & Country minivans because of false warnings from the tire pressure monitor (TPM) system.

Officials with the company say recall was initiated to reconfigure a TPM module to disable a test mode that was inadvertently left on following shipment of the vehicles.

The second recall, which involves 23,053 model year 2014 Ram ProMaster full-size vans, concerns a needed software upgrade in the TPM system.

According to Chrysler, the vans contain TPM sensors that lack the capability to recognize which tire the pressure data is coming from. The issue can create false signals of low tire pressure.

Additionally, if the light is already activated, the system may not properly alert vehicle occupants if tire pressure actually becomes low.

31,600 Pounds Of Gluten-Free Chicken Nuggets Recalled For Staphylococcal Enterotoxin – Consumerist

Drop that nugget! The U.S. Department of Agriculture has announced a recall of 31,600 pounds of Bell & Evans gluten-free chicken nuggets that were shipped nationwide. Random testing in Colorado turned up contamination with Staphylococcal enterotoxin, and all nuggets in the batch have been recalled.

Staphylowhat? The pathogen that caused this recall is Staphylococcus aureus. If that name sounds familiar, certain strains are the “Staph” in “Staph infection” and the “SA” in “MRSA,” or Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, or the antibiotic-resistant superbugs that are causing serious, terrifying illnesses.

More Than 60,000 Pounds Of Breakfast Meals Shipped To Retailers And Airlines Recalled For Listeria Contamination – Consumerist

Minnesota-based food supplier Buddy’s Kitchen announced the recall of 62,488 pounds of meat and poultry breakfast products after the detection of listeria contamination.

Buddy’s Kitchen initiated the recall for products made between July 16 and September 25 after potatoes used in the meals tested positive for listeria monocytogene contamination.

The roasted red skin potatoes were proved by an independent Idaho-based supplier not named in the recall notice. All of the products being recalled use the potatoes.

Buddy’s Kitchen shipped the meals to retail outlets such as convenience stores, restaurants and vending machines, as well as airlines. The recall notice did not specify which clients received or may have served the affected products.

Bumble Bee Foods recalls tuna sold at Wegmans | wivb.com

Bumble Bee Foods has recalled pouches of tuna sold at Wegmans because of packaging defects that could lead to illness.

The recall affects Bumble Bee Premium Albacore in Water, 2.5 ounce pouches with the UPC 8660024011 and best buy date of March 2017 to September 2017, and five ounce pouches with the UPC 8660024016 and a best buy date of March 2017 to September 2017.

The tuna was sold at Wegmans stores between April 22 and October 7 of this year.

GM Recalls Yet Another Half-Million Cars Over Increased Crash Risks – Consumerist

Reuters reports on the two latest recalls from the carmaker. One affects about 430,000 2010-2015 Cadillac SRX and the 2011-2012 Saab 9-4X SUVs.

On those SUVs, the rear toe link assembly has a loose joint and can develop worn threads that cause the car to “wander at highway speeds” and potentially separate, increasing the risk of a crash. GM has indicated that they are aware of three crashes and two injuries (but no fatalities) that have happened as a result of this issue.

Of course, as we’ve learned this year, there can be a wide gulf between what GM is aware of and what others report.

The other recall is on almost 94,000 2013-2015 Chevrolet Sparks. Those cars have a hood latch defect that increases the risk of the hood just popping itself open while you’re driving the car which, again, increases the risk of a crash.

The two newest recalls bring GM’s total 2014 recalls to a hefty 71, affecting almost 30 million vehicles worldwide. (For comparison, in each of the past five years GM has sold between 2 and 3 million cars in the United States.)

Chrysler Recalls 350,000 Vehicles For A Variety Of Ignition Switch Issues – Consumerist

Chrysler announced today that it would voluntarily call back nearly 350,000 vehicles for ignition switch issues.

Reuters reports that the manufacturer is recalling 349,442 model year 2008 Dodge Chargers, Magnums, Chrysler 300s, and Jeep Commanders and Grand Cherokees because the ignition keys can become stuck or inadvertently move.

According to a statement from Chrysler, the company found the ignition keys on certain vehicles may not fully return to the “ON” position after rotation to the “START” position during engine-startup.

Instead, the key can become stuck between the two position. If that occurs, the windshield defroster and wiper function may be lost. Airbag function would not be affected in this situation.

However, Chrysler say in a less probable instance the ignition key may inadvertently move to the “ACCESSORY” or “OFF” position after starting the vehicle. In this case, the vehicle may suffer reduced breaking power and a loss of engine power, power steering, and one or more of the vehicle’s safety features including front air bags.

Foster Farms Recalls 39,747 Pounds Of Cooked Frozen Chicken Strips For Possible Listeria Contamination – Consumerist

You may remember the name Foster Farms from the year-long salmonella outbreak that authorities finally linked to the company this past July. During a recent inspection, routine tests turned up Listeria Monocytogenes bacteria in frozen chicken strips shipped to warehouses in California, Texas, Utah, and Washington state.

What should consumers look for in their freezers? The affected chicken products are frozen pre-cooked chicken breast strips in a 3.5-pound resealable bag. They’ll have the establishment number P-33901 in the USDA inspection emblem, and the “best by” date is August 15, 2015. The strips were packed on August 4, 2014.

While frozen pre-cooked products like these might say “ready to eat” on the package, the U.S. Department of Agriculture still advises consumers to reheat such products “until steaming hot” to kill any pathogens in cases exactly like this one.

Ford Recalls 850,000 Vehicles Over Airbag Concerns – Consumerist

According to The Detroit News, Ford issued a recall for 847,000 model year 2013 to 2014 Ford C-MAX, Fusion, Escape and Lincoln MKZ for an electrical glitch that can prevent the airbags from deploying in the event in a crash.

If a short occurs in the restraints control module the airbag warning indicator will illuminate. But depending on the location of the short circuit, the deployable restoration may not function as intended in the event of a crash, Ford reports.

Additionally, the short circuit may also affect the function of other systems including the vehicle’s stability control.

Today’s recall marks the 12th for the 2013 Ford Escape. The last recall involving the Escape was issued just last month for a poor electrical connection that could cause the engine to unexpectedly lose power or stall.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the voluntary recall of 2.2 million Ace Bayou Corporation bean bag chairs after two children opened them, crawled inside and tragically suffocated to death.

The voluntary industry standard requires non-refillable bean bag chairs to have closed and permanently disabled zippers. However, the recalled chairs have two zippers that can be opened, providing enough space for a child to enter. The child can then become trapped and suffocate or choke on the bag’s foam beads.

Affected chairs include both round or L-shaped, vinyl or fabric, and are filled with polystyrene foam beads. The chairs were sold in a variety of colors, including purple, violet, blue, red, pink, yellow, Kelly green, black, port, navy, lime, royal blue, turquoise, tangerine and multi-color.

Round bean bag chairs were sold in three sizes, 30, 32 and 40 inches in diameter, while L-shaped bean bag chairs measure 18 inches wide by 30 inches deep by 30 inches high. “ACE BAYOU CORP” is printed on a tag sewn into the bean bag chair’s cover seam.

That’s not an extra unripe lime interrupting a smooth pull of the beer — the makers of Corona Extra say some 12-ounce bottles of the brew have been recalled for having small glass particles in them.

Constellation Brands Beer Division announced the voluntary recall in a press release today, saying that certain six-packs, 12-packs and 18-packs of 12-ounce clear glass bottles might come with free glass shards.

Consumers who have purchased these kinds of bottles should check the production code — an eight-digit alphanumeric code printed on the necks of the bottles and side panels on the cardboard packages — against the below list:

It’s time to head to the pantry and check your jars of almond and peanut butters. Products sold under the brands of Arrowhead Farms and Maranatha, and private-label products sold in Kroger, Safeway, Trader Joe’s, and Whole Foods stores may be contaminated with salmonella, and consumers should dispose of them and seek a refund or replacement.

We may learn more about this possible contamination later on, but for now what we know is that evidence of Salmonella showed up during routine testing, and the company says that four people so far have reported illnesses that may have been caused by these products.

Because it’s hard to watch TV when you screen has fallen onto the floor, the folks at Vizio are recalling approximately 245,000 39″ and 42″ TVs with stands that might fail.

Hyundai Announces Three More Recalls, Bringing This Week’s Total To 1.3M Vehicles – Consumerist

Hyundai managed to remain relatively unscathed when it came to what I’m now referring to as “year of the recall,” but that changed this week. Hot off the heels of an 800,000-vehicle recall on Wednesday, the South Korean manufacturer is now issuing three additional recalls – for a host of issues – totaling more than 420,000 cars.

According to notices from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there have been no injuries or accidents associated with the three new recalls.

The first recall [PDF] focuses on about 225,000 model year 2001 to 2006 Sante Fe Crossover vehicles in which a rusted coil spring could fracture and puncture a tire, increasing the risk of a crash.

The second recall [PDF] involves 133,000 model year 2011 Sonata sedans because the car’s brake system master cylinder seal may be insufficient. If the seal doesn’t hold, the brake line could leak significant amounts of fluid, increasing the distance required to stop the vehicle.

Friday’s final recall [PDF] includes 61,000 model year 2007 to 2012 Veracruz crossovers with a possible oil leak. The leak make damage the vehicle’s alternator and charging system, which could cause full loss of power.

In a year marred by vehicle recalls, Nissan remained relatively under the radar with fewer than 500,000 cars recalled. But that changed on Saturday when the car company expanded a previous recall over defective Takata-produced airbags, bringing its total to more than 664,000.

The expanded recall includes 226,000 model year 2002 to 2004 Infiniti, Maxima, Pathfinder and Sentra cars, the Associated Press reports.

According to a filing [PDF] with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a safety defect in the passenger side frontal airbag which, in the event of a crash, may produce excessive internal pressure causing the inflator to rupture upon deployment of the airbag.

Officials with Nissan tell the AP they are unaware of any accidents or injuries related to the issues.

The expanded recall addresses both the passenger side frontal airbags that were originally installed in the vehicles, as well as replacement airbags that may have been installed as replacement service parts. A replacement airbag may have been installed, as one example, if a vehicle had been in a crash necessitating the replacement of the passenger side frontal airbag.

In June, Nissan, along with Honda and Mazda, announced recalls of vehicles with Takata-produced airbags, bringing the total number of affected cars to roughly 10 million in the past five years.

CPSC Finally Announces Recall Of Buckyballs, Kicking Off Refund Process – Consumerist

After two years of fighting the makers of Buckyballs and related Buckycubes to get the manufacturer to issue a recall of the magnetic toys that health experts say can rip through your gut if swallowed, the Consumer Product Safety Commission says it’s reached a settlement with the owner of the former company, and consumers can start filing their refund requests.

The CPSC originally filed a lawsuit against the company behind Buckyballs, Maxfield & Oberton, back in 2012 to force it to stop selling the rare-earth magnets, saying that the tiny balls posed a health hazard, especially to children who might be inclined to chuck them down their throats.

Buckyballs replied that they’re not meant for kids, and are actually just magnetic desktop toys, and embarked on a fight to “save our balls.”

That effort was stymied when its founder, Craig Zucker, dissolved the business, forcing the CPSC to sue Zucker directly, which was the first time since 2003 that the agency had to resort to a lawsuit to initiate a recall. Usually, companies issue a recall when the CPSC says so.

Ford issued a recall for 92,000 vehicles Tuesday to address an axle problem in some of their models.

According to Ford, the problem can either prevent the car from starting or essentially shift the car into neutral when it’s on the road. In addition, stopped cars could roll if the parking break is not engaged.

Ford Taurus, Interceptor, Flex and Edge vehicles from the 2012-2014 model years are affected by this recall.

Ford also recalled 200 2014 Ford Fiestas for a potential gas tank leak which could cause a fire.

Subaru Recalls 660,000 Vehicles Because Being Able To Stop Is Necessary – Consumerist

Some Subaru owners may be having a little deja vu today. The car company is recalling more than 660,000 vehicles, half of which were recalled for the same problem last year – a brake line issue that could make it difficult to stop.

Subaru announced the recall Friday because the brake line in the vehicles can rust and leak fluid, which could cause the car to take longer to stop, the Associated Press reports.

Affected models include the 2005 to 2009 Legacy and Outback, 2008 to 2014 Impreza and the 2009 to 2013 Forester.

The recall covers vehicles sold or registered in states were salt is used to clear roads during the winter months. Those states include: Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Washington, D.C.
