An Ocala mother is facing attempted murder charges after police say she intentionally rammed her minivan into a tree in an effort to kill her children.

Police say they responded to the area of SE 31st St. and found a minivan had crashed into a tree. Inside the van police found Calicia Williams and her four children, who were not wearing seatbelts.

"Detectives spoke with witnesses who advised Williams was traveling at a high rate of speed and told the passengers to take off their seatbelts, stretch out their hands, and stated, 'The devil can’t hurt you, he only hurts bad people. You have the light of Jesus in you and only Jesus can cure us,'" police said in a press release.

Cops: Gainesville mom tries to kill self, sons in tanker crash - News - Gainesville Sun - Gainesville, FL

A Gainesville woman accused of intentionally driving into on-coming traffic to try to hit a truck in a suicide attempt was arrested Friday night on three counts of attempted murder.

Melissa Gail Mack, 48, of 1826 SW 69th Terrace, Apt. B, told a friend earlier in the day that she was going to get in a crash that would kill her and her two sons, ages 4 and 6, the Gainesville Police Department said in an arrest report.

Mack’s van caught fire in the crash, which trapped her and the boys inside. Others were able to extinguish the fire and get the three out of the van.

A longtime friend of Mack told police that they talked a few hours earlier, with Mack telling her she was going to kill herself and her sons. The friend told police Mack said “it was ‘God’s will’ and she was ‘afraid’ but nothing could be done to change the outcome,” according to the arrest report.

High school dean-turned-dealer sentenced for maiming student

Shaun Harrison was a Boston high school dean and anti-violence advocate known by students as ‘‘Rev’’ for his pastor-like demeanor. But the pious facade hid a dark double life.

He boasted to students of his gang ties, drugs and guns. He recruited one of them, a 17-year-old student from a broken home, to deal marijuana in school, authorities said.

But after a dispute over slumping sales, Harrison shot the teen in the back of the head with a .380 pistol as they walked on a snowy city street in 2015 and left him for dead, prosecutors said.

Except Luis Rodriguez didn’t die. He dragged himself up and flagged down a passing car. In the hospital, Rodriguez uttered the name of his would-be killer: ‘‘Rev.’’

Harrison arrived at English High in Boston in January 2015, just two months before his arrest and after stints at other city public schools over about five years. He had been a community organizer and youth minister in Boston for decades, a familiar face who often worked with police and other law enforcement and helped gang members turn their lives around.

Ex-teacher slit wife’s throat, called teen CSC victim | WOODTV.com

A former Kentwood middle school teacher who tried to kill his wife at their Wyoming home will spend the next 30 to 60 years in prison.

The sentencing came after his wife told the horrific details of the day he slit her throat. After she confronted him about his sexual relationship with a middle school child, James Chelekis cut her throat. He then proceeded to read her Bible verses and called his child victim as his wife was bleeding out.

The middle schooler was the one who talked him into calling 911, 55 minutes after the attack.
