Welcome to H&C,,, where I aggregate news of interest. Primary topics include abuse with "the church", LGBTQI+ issues, cults - including anti-vaxxers, and the Dominionist and Theocratic movements. Also of concern is the anti-science movement with interest in those that promote garbage like homeopathy, chiropractic and the like. I am an atheist and anti-theist who believes religious mythos must be die and a strong supporter of SOCAS.

Just a note of reminder,,,
While I attempt to be thorough in aggregating news stories concerning various abuses within the church, I am but one person who does this as a "hobby" (for lack of better word). I became interested in tracking such stories about 8 years ago when confronted with a variation of "atheists cant be moral argument" and it took off from there. While my posts where much more broad prior, I have had to scale back a bit due to illness and stay focused on the abuses with some miscellaneous thrown in.
While I generally track criminal complaints and cases, there are a few civil cases that have caught my attention. With the recent report concerning PA being released publicly I foresee many other states doing likewise and many more civil cases coming to light. I haven't yet decided on how to cover such as the information overload is going to be immense. I also mainly focus on the US, as that is where I live, but I am finding that troublesome as well (ie. Cardinal Pell).
So my dear readers, if you know of incidents that should be highlighted, especially if there is a criminal complaint involved, please do not hesitate to note such in a comment. Until I find a good foot hold, things will seem a bit willy nilly. (There is a report now concerning the systematic abuse and alleged murder of children at American orphanages - something that I am not "surprised" by when taking into consideration the situation in Ireland.)
As per usual, if I note an incident(s) in error please do not hesitate in offering correction. My only requirement is credible citation. I rely on standard news sources accessible by the average reader.

Just a quick blurb,,,
for those that may be new to my blog.
I am changing focus a bit as my brain can only take so much. After 7 yrs of posting on religio-political stuff I just couldn't do it anymore. As some of you may know I suffered a stroke last July and another this past March which has caused post-stroke depression. Itself a daunting task to overcome but I am also bipolar which limits treatment options,,, ie antidepressants are verboten.
In that light I decided to get off the depressing stuff (or so I thought) and focus on a few sciencey type things that nag at me. The woo fuckery is just as strong and I have been personally involved in challenging it. It is bad when your own GP suggests chiropractic neck manipulation 3 weeks after suffering a stroke. Or your digestive issues are gluten related without any type of testing. How bout acupuncture for ongoing neuropathy. Trust me, it gets worse as my inbox is filled with woo.
That is what you will see for a while as I attempt to battle the woo. It is dangerous and can kill. Sorry I'm staying on my statins,,,

Just a reminder,,,
Due to the volume of narratives concerning church abuse AND crimes against the LGBTQI community along with legislation, I am about a month "behind" in said postings concerning such. It is by design to try and minimize the mind numbing effects of such stories compiled with my post-stroke depression. Some of these stories are heartwrenching, while others make you want to throw things. The debacle that is the RCC is a good example of such as they are mired in a never ending scandal; Altoona-Johnstown Diocese comes to mind.
Please keep in mind as well that some of these stories are changing daily as is the case with many investigations. Legislation on hot button issues is literally all over the map and difficult to track at times. I am a one woman show and do my best to stay informed and keep others, that are interested informed, as well. With that, my ultimate goal is to expose the jack-wads for what they are and get as much information out there as possible.
I just aggregate, the real heroes are the reporters and journalist whose stories I use (the movie Spotlight comes to mind). They have done the leg-work of reporting on the trials, reading transcripts or attended trials. They have attended the hearings and town hall meetings, or in some cases scoured police reports. I, on the other hand, sit back and read the fruits of their labor.
I remember this as I once again reach another milestone for this blog. Some time this week I will break the 5000 mark in postings and without the reporters and journalists, I would be stuck at zero.

UPDATED::Lifus Interuptus
UPDATE 3/30/16::
I am slowly returning to POST SROKE, the first time, normal!! And yes it was not one, but 2 strokes (mini-strokes - if there is such a thing,,,lol) as confirmed by my neuro. My typing still sucks and using a mouse is difficult but I will managed.
Regretfully my speech is not bouncing back as quickly as I would like, so I will sound slurred for a while longer. No, I am not drunk! Hell one wine cooler and I'm ready for bed.
On a very positive note, I'm closer to having my cataract surgery. Right eye is scheduled for April 27; left eye is scheduled for May 11. Although I will still have to wear glasses (it was never my goal to be glasses free), I will be glad to have some semblance of "normal" vision again.
As for blogging and posting articles, it is very slow going as I just finished February. So bear with as I try and play catch up - if that is even possible.Regretfully life decided to interrupt as I spent 4 days in hospital after another episode of stroke like symptoms. Hopefully Thursday I will get some answers as I finally see neuro pertaining to the first incident back in July. On a positive note, although my speaking has been affected a bit more, everything else has remained the same for the most part. Just a bit slower..
Now back to our scheduled BS whatever that may be!!
3/18/16::
Regretfully I won't be posting for the time being. Typing has become a major difficulty even with spellcheck. The stroke (definite dx now) has caused issues with mobility of hand/arm that is difficult to overcome ATM.
Articles of interest will be posted via twitter if you are interested!!

Welcome to 2016!!
As with every new year, I take stock of what I have done and accomplished. Though I feel I don't do enough as far as activism, I have been told otherwise. But there will be a few changes for the coming year.
What won't change,,,
Here's to a grand 2016,,,LLP!!
What won't change,,,
- I will still be posting on the atrocity that is religion and the harms it allows: Diddling clergy (layman or ordained), faith-healing (or as I like to call it "get out of jail free" for killing your kid/s), cult atrocities, and the like.
- I still will be following crimes against LGBTQI individuals as well as prominent civil liberty cases. The Kleins have stated they intend to file an appeal as well as the Philips case.
- I hope to better follow FFRF, MRFF, and ACLU cases and activities.
- I hope to pick on Todd Starnes and his faux-persecution non-sense a bit more as well
- And of course there are the religio-tards to pick on.
- Posting frequency, as I will be taking some MOOC classes. I will be posting an "end of the day" round-up of stories of interest as well as via Twitter.
- Topics, the woo is getting out of hand; specifically medical woo. I will be attempting to put a layman's spin on some heavy topics of personal interest as I continue to recover from my stroke.
- More science.
- More Havoc and Chaos Live.
- The Duggars
- Sarah Palin
- Hobby Lobby
Here's to a grand 2016,,,LLP!!

Just a wee bit of house keeping,,,
As some of you may be aware, back in July I suffered a stroke, overall I am doing well considering. Physically I still have some limitations that I hope will continue to improve but nothing insurmountable, just frustrating. Biggest issue is my dominated arm and hand just don;t work the way they used to. I call it Novocaine hand. Everything works, sort of, but I can't feel them working. It's really bizarre.
Mentally - I ain't doin sogood well. You see, just like there is a post concussion syndrome, so to is there a post stroke syndrome. For me fatigue, mental and physical, AND depression have hit me hard. That is on top of dealing with a seasonal aspect to my Bipolar as well. I am finding motivation very hard to come by and trying to post when one is sleeping, is difficult. I have, in my mind anyways, taken a step backwards - I am back to wanting to sleep all day.
My point is three-fold. First, my postings are going to be rather sporadic and in some cases outdated as I can't keep up with the stooopid. But, some of it is too important not to post: violence against the LGBTQI community, the hypocrisy of "the church" especially in regards to crimes against children (sex crimes and faith [not]healing, for example0, the stooopid shit people say or do (case in point Ben Carson - and I seriously can not keep up with the man), and the whole science denialism and woo-woo scene (anit-GMO, anti-Vaxx, the attacks on science educators, naturopathy and homeopathy). So I'm going to do my best in keeping with that theme.
Second, I'm contemplating a change in focus. My interests are still the same, but there appears to be some areas that are lacking from an "educational" standpoint. I'll use "s"atanism as an example:
Recently I was a few discussions, both involving theists and non-theists. "S"atanism was brought into the discussion but yet very few knew that there are different forms and varying beliefs (denominations so to speak). Everyone was stuck on the "ick factor" of the Panic created in the 80s and early 90s. When the differences were brought to light, the hyperbole eliminated, a few minds were changed - and that is a good thing.
Now I have been told that I am good at breaking things down and explaining things in layman's term. Being that there are some information heavy topics - mental illness, the BS surrounding anti-vax and alternative [not]medicine, etc. I wonder if I would be a better service in that regard concerning specific topics. It is something I am thinking about, more for myself than anything. Trying to "re"find my focus has become difficult, so bear with me.
And last, depression and loneliness suck and I ask for support. Not necessarily for myself as I am surrounded by phenomenal people, but for those around you that you may not know need help and are too afraid to ask. With the holidays fast approaching, this time of year can be down right horrible for many within the secular community, the LGBTQI community, the poor and disadvantaged, and the elderly. Can you please take three seconds of your time and say "hello"? You never know whose life you may change.
Hope this made some sort of sense,,,lol :)

On the "other side" of the mic
So today, I was afforded an opportunity to speak about my current financial situation surrounding my stroke. [Video starts at the point where Chris introduces Deb, one of my co-hosts. We talk a bit about our video-cast Beyond The Trailer Park and what we do and then delve in to my situation at the 1:21:40 mark.] It was a very odd experience as I am used to being on the "other side" of the mic. I'm used to being the one to ask questions and let the narrator tell their story, not the one telling the story. Although I had outlined the points I wanted to hit upon, I felt as if I may have stumbled a bit and was not as clear as I would have liked to have been. Hopefully this may help clarify what I was attempting to say as my story is not just about me any more.
The biggest question I have been asked - why I decided to go public, besides the obvious of needing short term financial help. People need to see that,,,
1] Our current systems (primarily medical care as a whole with impetus from the insurance industry) really do suck, we have put company profits above our humanity to fellow man; the so-called "War on the Poor". I am hoping, in some small way, to put another face to that issue.
What I experienced in the ER, when the hospital found out I had no insurance, definitely has short term ramifications. Not only do I feel that they dropped the ball medically, but also from a social aspect. From a humanitarian aspect, I feel that my care changed. Yes I do understand that the hospital ONLY has to "stabilize" my health crisis but IMO, that didn't even transpire (but that is a whole other issue I am dealing with).
The hospital has a responsibility (they really do) to get the ball rolling as far as indigent care is concerned. It is their responsibility to provide initial guidance in navigating the morass of paperwork; and there is good reason for that. Depending on the final outcome, that initial contact "locks in" the date of service of said care. When one applies for let say Medicaid (as in my specific case), there is a 90 day window from the date of the application until approval where costs incurred will be covered in some manner. So I may not have had Medicaid at the time of hospitalization but my eventual approval will be "back dated" and costs will be covered (it's kind of like applying for SSDI, going through an appeal, and being awarded monies dating from the time of the original application). In essence they would not only be helping themselves but the patient as well. My return to health would expedite my return to work which would lessen my burden on the system.
Somewhere in the last 25-30 years, that point has been lost.
2] People need to see that humanity (albeit within the confines of the US border) as a whole is being harmed and I am only but one example. Let me explain,,,
From my understanding my immediate care at the hospital was lacking, yes some standard testing was done minus one due to no insurance. Although I presented with the classic signs of a stroke, "caused" by HBP that aspect was ignored. I was given 2 pills and released 4 1/2 hrs later. As Deb can attest, the first week was hell. Now keep in mind I was in no better shape than when I entered the ER.
Normal care just for HBP is hospitalization. Normal care for stroke is the same. Whether that initial lack of care will exacerbate my current deficits remains to be seen. (Normally aftercare such as therapies begin immediately in the hospital setting for good reason, long term prognosis improves ie I don't become a burden on the system as a whole,,, or in the words of the Reich, I won't become a slacker or mooch or a freeloader.)
This scenario also crosses over into the care I receive from my GP who is also hamstrung by my lack of insurance. Basically I am being medicated and that is it. There are tests that my doctor would like to perform but can't due to cost. These test would dictate my future care, the prevention of further issues and determine when or if I can return to work.
Oh,,,didn't you know I was a "real" member of society? Yes, I actually did work. Three weeks ago I was a fully functioning, tax paying member of society. But, because I was part of the "working poor",,,
I'll just leave it at that :)
And that brings me to reason number three of why I have gone public and the most important,,,
My issues ATM are being taken care of. Because of your generosity I have been given the time and means to hopefully get all the kinks out of my insurance issue; I don't have the pressure of "having" to return to work sooner than what may be medically safe just to keep a roof over my head. And as I have said, that helps, A LOT. But through all of this a realization hit, this is the type of shit I write about almost daily; the so-called "War on the Poor". I have become my own subject matter.
Now my overall situation is nuanced, my work life is and has been influenced by previous factors. I have a mental illness, bipolar disorder, which has impacted some of my life decisions; I can live with that and I was/am comfortable. What I am not comfortable with, there are individuals in worse situation than I and I find that to be deplorable.
So, somewhere down the line, when my health is better stabilized, I hope with your help to maybe expand on what has been started with my situation. I know there are many organizations out there that help in a variety of capacities. I know that these organizations have rules to follow. But sometimes those rules need to be bent and that is what I would like to endeavor upon in some way.
Your donations, your friendships, your kind notes have given me the time I needed to get the ball rolling without having the added pressure of "where will I go if,,,". But imagine someone in worse shape than I. I haven't lost any cognitive function, had my stroke been anywhere else in my brain, who knows what I may have lost (I am still learning about what a stroke is and what "damage" it may cause). Individuals in that category who don't have the network of support, who don't have the cognitive capacity to understand the red tape are falling through the same crack I have and need the same help. Hopefully together we can build on that.
Although I do not have a strong IRL network of support (OK,,I have none) I do have and excellent virtual system and for that I am thankful. ATM I am in a bit of a holding pattern as paperwork is processed etc. I am gaining strength daily but have set-backs as well. But y'all have made a difference even at a 1/4 of my goal. As I noted in a recent update, to those of you who feel what you have graciously given is "not enough" or "wish I could have given more". Every penny counts in my case!!
I don't know what my future may hold, I am taking it one day at a time; it is all I can do. I do know that I will much louder concerning matters of the heart.
__
Just a we side note: I do receive SNAP assistance I have for a few years now and hence why I follow issues concerning SNAP as I do. I am grateful that I have that extra help and it does stretch my income. As I noted in my interview, I live in a very rural area, a one grocery-store town. Under normal circumstances I do try to go to a neighboring town to purchase my food stuffs but of late I haven't been able to and it does make a huge difference.
What makes my situation concerning SNAP as a whole, a bit different, I am also diabetic. So my diet is a bit more restrictive (and trust me I ain't perfect with my diet) than some. Oh, and I don't eat beef (maybe once or twice a year) and I eat pork very sparingly. So cutting items such as seafood (and no I don't buy lobster but I do use shrimp), spices, and various other products would limit my food choices even further.
I do cook from scratch and I am very good at it. In a pinch, I can "live" off of $25/week for groceries, but it would not be healthy in the long run. Taken on its own, issues with SNAP in my case are minor, but couple that with my other issues makes it a challenge.
The biggest question I have been asked - why I decided to go public, besides the obvious of needing short term financial help. People need to see that,,,

- 2 Thessolonians
- the slash and burn politics of the extreme right leaning, ideologues
- 54 votes on repealing the ACA,
- the attacks on Social Security and Medicare (that are so prevalent during election season)
- the so-called "junk food bans" where in WI, you can't even buy ketchup with WIC (see p3)

UPDATE::Due to a health emergency,,,
As I mentioned a few weeks back, I suffered a stroke and I am now dealing with the aftermath. Initially I had no idea what to expect as I was in pretty bad shape, but I am improving slowly and re-gaining some of my physical strength. Thankfully, from a cognitive standpoint there doesn't seem to be any deficits other than I'm a bit slower and maintaining multiple thought streams isn't as sharp. Hence why my postings are a bit erratic and take a bit longer to put together.
Overall, I guess things are going as well as can be expected and attempting to maintain Havoc and Chaos has in some ways helped; not being able to work has been a major bore for me. Which brings me to the why of this post.
At the behest of friends and acquaintances who are familiar with my financial situation (more like lack there of), they wanted some means to help. So this GoFundMe campaign was born and as you can see much has transpired. I am eternally grateful and have no words to express my thanks.
To save time and to avoid being redundant, I have been and will be posting any pertinent updates via GFM in order to keep those that have donated apprised of how your money is being spent and my progress to return to work. Although I loathed having to take this route, I am glad I have and it has been a great success thus far.
Again I thank you all for your generosity!!

Due to a health emergency,,,The Warning Signs of Stroke
I will have to place Havoc and Chaos on a semi-hiatus,,,
To put it bluntly I am suffering from the after-effects of stroke like symptoms caused by stage II hypertension and have lost partial use of the right side of my body. This includes my right eye (double vision, which is making reading and writing extremely difficult.) This was unexpected and came about with no warning (or warnings I may have ignored.)
Although I will not be posting as much, I do plan to continue with projects at a much slower pace (if I am able) and sharing the wacky shit coming from the Reich via twitter (@dune9998) if you are interested. There is no time table as to when I will be able to return as I'm only in day two of this whole mess and it is new territory to explore.

OR (still being determined as the ER may have dropped the ball),,,Stroke Warning Signs
Sometimes symptoms of stroke develop gradually. But if you are having a stroke, you are more likely to have one or more sudden warning signs like these:
A transient ischemic attack (TIA) is a "mini stroke" from a temporary blockage. Although a TIA doesn't cause permanent brain damage, it may cause stroke warning signs, which may last minutes or even hours. Think of this as a warning sign you shouldn't ignore.
- Numbness or weakness in your face, arm, or leg, especially on one side
- Confusion or trouble understanding other people
- Trouble speaking
- Trouble seeing with one or both eyes
- Trouble walking or staying balanced or coordinated
- Dizziness
- Severe headache that comes on for no known reason
An ischemic stroke happens when a vessel supplying blood to the brain becomes blocked. It can happen for a variety of reasons. For example, fatty deposits in arteries ( atherosclerosis) can cause blood clots to form. Sometimes a blood clot forms in the heart from an irregular heartbeat called atrial fibrillation. It then travels to a place where it blocks an artery supplying the brain.I thank you for your support and I do hope to see y'all on twitter,,,LLP!!

Lifus Interuptus (ie bipolar mind whirl),,,
Once again life has interrupted my play time and totally side-tracked my thoughts. Many open ended posts have been left hanging with no conclusion and attempting to get back into that mode of thought is difficult. So, Ima gonna regroup and reload.

A new year has dawned
What a wild year this has been. On a personal note I have weathered the murder of a beloved nephew, the death of my mother (just before Turkey Day) and recently an unexpected move over the Christmas holiday. (That was fun--NOT!!)
But,,,
Coming into the new year, there are many things I hope to accomplish. Besides my personal goals for this blog, recent events have shown that the Reich's message and agenda is overpowering and dismantling much of what we as a country hold dear. Too many are blinded by the propaganda that spews forth on a daily basis. It is with great hope, coming into the 2016 election cycle, that those of us that blog independently will be able to collectively bring to light the asshatery being put forth by the extreme right.
Education is being dismantled, and I am not talking Common Core - from the Texas textbook fiasco to the deliberate underfunding taking place in places like Kansas and Pennsylvania. The charter school program is being exposed for what it really is.
Women's healthcare is under attack whether it be preventative measures (availability of contraceptives) or pregnancy termination (abortion). And yes "legitimate rape" reared its ugly head yet again. The drive for "fetal heartbeat" legislation pushing the agenda, as well as repealing the ACA. With the house and senate now controlled by the repuglicans, the battle will rage on.
We have also seen LGBT issues and marriage equality make great strides but being targeted on many fronts under the guise of "religious liberty." The Nazification of the "gay agenda" (whatever that may be) by the likes of Peter LaBarbera, Bryan Fischer, Tony Perkins et al is going to get worse. These individuals and many like them need to be exposed for the bigots they are.
So much has happened in the past year it was difficult to keep up. With planes disappearing, Putin one minute being a "knight in shinning armor" and then not to North Korea and China testing the world stage, there was much to cover. We discovered that Racism never really disappeared and some of our police forces have more military equipment than the military.
I don't foresee any of this changing in the next year, it is why I do what I do. Hopefully myself and other bloggers can keep you informed with our biased opinions. That being said, how did we do,,,
Thank you!!
PS:: There is more stuff in the works, like Havoc and Chaos going to a weekly podcast. More on that later :)
PPS::I still haven't figured out if President Obama is a Kenyan socialist, Islamic Marxist, a communist, Satan himself, or just our President.

- Personally I wanted to hit 100,000 page views and 2000 posts, we almost made it my dear readers. Had I not lost 10 weeks to personal stuff that mark would have been reached - this year I want 300,000 views (currently 93,303) and 3000 postings (currently 3329).
- I have decided not to syndicate as I discovered I do not write well on a deadline and I am usually a day late-dollar short on "current events." I work full-time outside of my home and some days I just don't have the time. But I am still open for anyone who would like to be a featured guest blogger.
- We did gain two followers which is "way kewl." Maybe with some luck we can double that this year.
- "Remnants of the day" gave way to watching the crazies via Right Wing Watch. I am going to tweak that a bit and attempt to continue both. I have subject matter that I focus on daily and miss "other" news but found that some of my highest posting visits where to "Remnants."
- I will again focus on LGBT issues intertwined with the religious liberty bullshit or the "right to discriminate."
- I will continue to focus on "hate" crimes caused by the Reich's agenda.
- Issues with law enforcement is currently at the fore with numerous cases making headlines.
- Exposing religious abuse to children (pedophile priests and those that abuse their religious standing).
- The 2016 elections are ramping up with 14 possible Reichwing candidates.
- I will also be focusing a bit more on "fringe" topics. There is some crazy End-Times/prophecy bullshit that is supposed to come to fruition this year.
Thank you!!

I am sick and tired of reading and hearing,,,
I'm taking a we bit of a break from posting to work on a, now major, piece in response to Stephen L. Anderson's vile "sermon." What started out as just a "simple response" has now turned into a 15,000+ word diatribe and it is getting longer as my ire continues to rise. I am sick and tired of reading and hearing certain individuals throwing words like "homo","fagot", "dyke" and "queer" around in a manner to dehumanize other people.
I am sick and tired of these same individuals who then use the Bible (and their religion) to justify their stance whether it be a simple condemnation - love the sinner, hate the sin - or the vitriol spewing forth from people like Anderson, Swanson, Manning, Livley, LaBarbera, Barber, Staver, Klingenschmitt, yada yada,,,.
I know there are many within the Church that find these words of hate despicable; some have come out in condemnation. But until these leaders take a bold stand and seriously consider and preach the work of Matthew Vines, David Gushee, Rev. Dr.Mel White (Soulforce), and many others I am not familiar with, we will remain at a stand still. The "Us vs Them war" will continue. Fuck the "War on Christmas" we have bigger issues to take care of
I can't change the Church, all I can do is attempt counter the crap being put forth and bring to the fore the shit being preached. That is what I am hoping to do as I continue to write.

UPDATE::Havoc and Chaos also has a Facebook group
As some of my dear readers may know, Havoc and Chaos also has a (lightly moderated) Facebook group page that I invite you to come check out. Though the content is ALMOST identical, there are some differences. I have two fine gentleman Robert Robertson (World Cult Watch and The Free World Project) and Robert Baty (a guest contributor at Forbes) who also post content.
- Robert R. focuses primarily on cults, Scientology being his main focus, as well as the harms of "hereditary religion." Like myself, he wants to rid the world of religious indoctrination, especially in regards to children.
- Robert B. avidly follows the Kent Hovind tax debacle and other issues relating to tax law and the churches, specifically the constitutionality of Internal Revenue Code Section 107. He is also and ardent anti-presuppositionalist for those into the atheist v theist debate scene.

BLOG UPDATE::Firefox's major malfunction
So today whilst working on a post, Firefox decided to take a major shit. Long story short, I lost every single one of my 76,000+ bookmarks including my history, apps and add-ons. So I am re-tooling; posts will be slow in coming the next few days as I figure things out and uhm,,,find "new" stories!!

I'm back!!
Fairly certain that is self explanatory. But after dealing with some wanky "family" stuff it time to return to what I love to do :)

Will be taking a step back for 7-10 days to get better organized as my desk and desktop look like a cyclone hit. That and I feel like shit health wise; spring and fall are a bitch when you have chronic pain and fibro. Hopefully with a bit of luck I will be back on my pain meds tomorrow and after a few days of adjusting when to take them, I will be back to my normal. Posting will be very sporadic, if at all.

Sorry for the lack of postings
Things have been a bit hectic of late with new responsibilities and added hours at my work place (so much for part-time); not feeling all that great(spring/fall are the worst time of year for pain flairs) which adds to my battle with bipolar. I'm also taking a class on/about Buddhism, and prolly a we bit of burnout. I am at the mercy of what my brain and body can bare at the moment and hopefully I'll be back to 100% soon as I hate this feeling of malaise.
