So you say you make no claims in your book,,, I beg to differ (Pt 3)

I know I have harped on this point a few different times but a recent FBLive video drives this point home. As it happens it is a point Epperly notes in her book in chapter 5, page 20.

https://www.facebook.com/JillianEpperly/videos/10158177713032468/

Warning:: What you are about to watch is disgusting from a food safety POV. Epperly demonstrates she DOES NOT know the difference between a “mother”, Kahm yeast, and mold, suggesting to skim and stir her brew. Bear in mind what is shown is a week without refrigeration. Her advice concerning food safety should be ignored.

As I have stated prior, Kahm yeast will not harm you but does indicate an issue with your ferment (Incorrect Headspace, Overflow of brine, Evaporation of water causing loss of air seal and exposure to oxygen). As long as there are no molds present and the ferment tests at a pH of 4 or lower it can be saved but KY can contaminate the flavor and odor.

Mold on the other may harm you if you are sensitive, although it is suggested not to consuming anything that has been contaminated by mold (some cheese being the exception). Mold can cause allergic reactions and produce toxic substances called mycotoxins and aflatoxins. What Jillian ignores concerning mold, the growth of hyphae (which results in discoloration and a fuzzy appearance) and its network of tubular branching hyphae, called a mycelium, which descend below the brine into the liquid. Stirring in the remnants is not recommended.

Now compare the above video to this passage in her book concerning flavor.
While there will be subtle differences in flavor profiles between batches and as the brew ages, generally a proper ferment will be a sourish tang with a bit of fizz; almost a refreshing taste if ferments are something you like. Not what she describes,

,,,it tasted very salty, extremely salty and it was very hard to get down. Overtime, the taste would change and it would taste tangy and salty and it would go back and forth,,, just because the taste changes from metallic to tangy too salty,,, it’s going to taste and smell horrible in the beginning. Everything is normal as long as you keep the time, temperature and ratios when making the ferment,,,

"My protocol is not a detox and that is why I do not call the symptoms during my protocol “detox symptoms”, because the protocol uses a different context and outcome. The context of my protocol is healing and purging so we call them “healing symptoms”.” (p16)

Which is it Jillian detox or purge? All throughout 2017 you call it a detox. Here is a video clip form May 23 of you drinking JJ as part of a challenge. “One gallon one sitting no food starts today,,, The next 29 days I'll do two quarts morning 2 quarts in the afternoon.” Your comments belie you as well. (FYI “pureed” cabbage is considered food.)
Detox, salt water flush, purge – call it what you want, it is all the same You can deny it all you want, but your recipe and instructions to consume up to a gallon a day doesn't lie.  With a detox, one is generally consuming a whole lot of juice of some sort and little else -- which pushes everything thing else out of your system You're clearing out all the tubes and pipes, as they say.  A common salt water flush recipe involves mixing non-iodized salt with water by: adding 1 to 2 teaspoons of non-ionized salt, preferably sea salt or pink Himalayan sea salt, to 1 liter of water; drinking the mixture over a period of 5 or so minutes. In essence, JJ combines both. High salt content liquid with the consumption of some solids in a short amount of time. It's not original and has been around since man existed. As I have noted before, “old fecal matter” going “toxic” is a myth.

While we are at it let's take a look at the risks involved.

Funny, that list is identical to your supposed healing symptoms.

For you to then state the following is irresponsible on your part, “My protocol does not cause issues, it deals with the issues you already have and some are not as overt as others.”

There is no easy way to put this, “waterfalls” is not similar to diarrhea,,, it's the same fucking thing.
Diarrhea, is loose and watery bowel movements. That's it. There is no gussied metaphor to attached to it. It can have different causes such as bacteria, virus, IBD or IBS, medication, etc. Diarrhea is the sign that something may be wrong. Diarrhea can also cause dehydration, which can be life-threatening. Forcing yourself to shit your brains out on a daily basis or even 2-3 times per week can lead to excessive thirst, dry mouth or skin, little or no urination, weakness, dizziness or lightheadedness, fatigue, dark-colored urine. Again warning signs you include on your list of healing symptoms. If untreated, dehydration is particularly dangerous in children, older adults and those with weakened immune systems. Your advice Jillian is contrary to known medical science. While you are not forcing individuals to follow your bullshit, you are encouraging them to ingest a dangerous amount of salt. You are giving the most vulnerable piss poor advice. The amount you, demand others consume, you do not even ingest yourself as you demonstrated in your last video.

As noted by a critic,

I watched the J juice making video again from a couple days ago. Will someone please teach her simple measurement? How many cups in a quart? How many ounces in a cup? How many quarts in a gallon? She doesn't follow her own recipe. She basically just fills her jars. First blending cabbage, water and one heaping tablespoons of salt in her nutrabullet. She isn't measuring the cabbage or the water. Just fills up the nutrabullet container and claims there is two cups of water and two cups of cabbage. Once blended she poured the entire content into a quart jar. It filled the jar but she still thinks it's two cups of water. (A dry measure of two cups of cabbage does not turn into two cups of liquid once blended. At best it probably ends up being about a half a cup once blended or pureed as she calls it.)

I looked up the size of the nutrabullet containers. They sell 24 oz and 32 oz. I assume hers are 32 oz since it fills the quart jar. For those quart jars she has a little starter ferment already in the jar then fills with fresh. The amount of starter ferment varies from jar to jar whether they are quart or gallon jars. Same as the amount of cabbage she puts in the nutrabullet, one time it is a lot and next time it is only a little. She finishes blending her cabbage then says next she will make salt water to fill her jars. There is no actual measuring per the recipe. She is filling the nutrabulket saying it is two cups but it really is a four cup container unbenonced to her. She uses one heaping tablespoon of salt. So that is almost half what the recipe calls for. She does speakof the recipe as she works so I guess that's good enough.

J shows her finished product and comments that some jars have 25% cabbage and 75% salt and water while others have a 50/50 ratio (is that in the recipe?) There is really no telling how much salt is in each jar because she uses heaping spoons plus there is salt in the starter ferments she keeps in each jar! I guess one of her followers questioned her lack of following the recipe and of course she had to make a video saying DON'T DEBATE ME! The best I can tell there is actually a little less salt than her recipe calls for IF one actually follows the recipe.

This was a gag worthy video. Someone asked why her jars look so dirty, well that would be because she leaves some starter ferment in each jar then just reuses the jars without washing them. Probably saves a lot of time. She isn't one who pays attention to detail unless you are sending angry or laughing emojis during her videos! (Unedited)

You state further along, on page 19, “We’ve already established the fact that the “waterfalls” are perfectly healthy because we’re working within a very different context. So, with that said, it is optimal that you get waterfalls at least once, twice or three times a week to clear out your system while getting in the nutrients in the most expeditious way possible.”
Just NO! You have determined, with no supporting evidence, that the first world populace is inhabited by little beasties. You have determined, that 3X a week, said populace needs to shit their brains out. You have determined that the governmental RDA should be ignore, consuming 55,200mgs of salt daily via your JJ is safe.

We” haven't established anything because I do not agree with you and neither does medical science. Just because you deny science and refuse to accept generally held guidelines, doesn't mean that your delusional protocol is the answer.
You are encouraging a large consumption of liquid in a very short time. Which alone can cause its own issues of over-hydration. Over-hydration happens when you drink more liquid than your kidneys can get rid of via urine; 0.8-1 gallons (3-4 liters) of water in a short amount of time. Your kidneys can eliminate about 5.3-7.4 gallons (20-28 liters) of water a day, but they can't get rid of more than 27-33 ounces (0.8-1.0 liters) per hour.

You are reeking havoc with cellular homeostasis via the ingestion of a massive salt intake combined with the effects of over-hydration.
Claiming “waterfalls” boost immune system, demonstrates how little you understand the immune system. It's the last thing you want boosted.

The immune system, if you are otherwise healthy, cannot be boosted, and doing those things you learned in kindergarten health (reasonable diet, exercise and sleep), will provide the immune system all the boosting or support it needs.
,,,
Those who say that that their product, for example probiotics, boost the immune system, point to studies such as these that show that in response to bacteria, cells of the immune system are activated, they are exhibiting the expected inflammatory response to a foreign invader. They call it boosting. I call it the inflammatory response. What could be better than priming your immune system so that it is better able to respond to a pathogen? This preamble leads us to the meat of this post: Is it good to have the immune system activated? Is it good to have your immune system primed? Or boosted? Maybe not. It does explain why taking a probiotic helps increase the antibody response to influenza vaccine in the elderly and decreases the duration of respiratory infections. A short term inflammatory response may be of benefit, but it may not be an effect you want to have persist.

Your entire notion of “waterfalls” being a good thing is just plain wrong. You can take you “law of attraction” BS and shove it up your ass.
<Whiny Jilly Voice>
IT’S YOUR INTENTION. A laxative is not a laxative but a healing salt protocol and diarrhea is not diarrhea but refreshing waterfalls!
</Whiny Jilly Voice>
I'm going to close this installment with this lovely piece of advice. I recommend you read it 2-3 times to get the full effect and understand the ramifications of what Jillian is suggesting.

First off, if you live in a first world nation, the chances of you having an issue with parasites is very small to non-existent. BUT this statement is beyond appalling, “ People that get blood clots behind the eyes also experience parasites as well as fungus being expelled and may experience blood clots but they’re also temporary. So many things will go on during this change in your biochemistry but it’s not to be feared as it is part of the healing process.” Nothing like shaming an individual for going to a  healthcare provider.

Those blood clots you poo-poo away are retinal vascular occlusions, or eye stroke. An eye stroke is caused by a clot, or narrowing of the retina's blood vessels. The retina's blood flow is interrupted and, if left untreated, can result in permanent damage to the retina and loss of sight. You're not a doctor Jillian, you should not be telling your followers to ignores signs of a much larger medical problem.

As one who nearly lost their eyesight due to a cerebral stoke and has the beginning of diabetic retinopathy, you do not fuck with someones eyesight. Your protocol and recipe are bullshit. You have no medical or training in science to be giving people advice concerning their eyes.
