No word as of yet if this incident is just a disgruntled, mentally unstable individual or if Peters has ties to the Sovereign Movement or any of the militias. I'm guessing based on the lack of "history" and the fact that it was a "welfare check" it is the former.

A man suspected of shooting two sheriff's deputies in suburban Chicago was arrested Thursday after residents told investigators a man fitting the suspect's description was walking on a nearby street, authorities said.

McHenry County Sheriff Keith Nygren said Scott Peters, 52, did not resist arrest about two miles from his Holiday Hills home. Peters has not been charged yet.

Peters is suspected of firing "several rounds" from a rifle through the front door when deputies arrived at his home early Thursday in response to a request for a wellness check, Nygren said.

Peters fled, and his wife and child were in the home but unharmed, Nygren said.

A two-year-old is in critical condition after police say he accidentally shot himself in the head inside a home in Delaware Tuesday morning.

The shooting happened at about 10 a.m. in a home on Cliffside Court at the Valley Run Apartments in Claymont, Delaware.

According to investigators, officers with the New Castle County Police Department were called to the home for the report of a two-year-old who shot himself in the head.

Paramedics performed CPR at the scene and the child was eventually flown to Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in critical condition, where he remains at this time.

New Castle County Police Department officials said the child was at the home with his mother when the shooting occurred.

Authorities are still trying to determine where the child found the gun and how much supervision he had.

The victim invited a friend into the home and the two began playing with a gun, according to reports. The two were allegedly drinking at the time.

It hasn’t been revealed as to how the girl came into possession of the gun, but it fired and struck the victim.

The victim was identified as Gregory Higdon. His mother says he was her only son, according to ABC 13.

He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Pa. Man Shoots At Neighbor's Home Because Only Way He Knew How To Unload It

A Pennsylvania man fired two bullets at his neighbor's home on Friday and later told police that was the only way he knew how to unload a gun, according to the Bucks County Courier Times.

A Middletown, Pa. resident heard gunshots outside of her home in Friday afternoon. She then discovered that a window on her porch door was shattered, according to the Courier Times.

She then saw a man fire a gun in the direction of her home and run back into his house, police said.

Police inspected her home and then the home of George Byrd IV. They found two bullet holes in the fence separating Byrd's home from that of his neighbor.

When questioned by police, Byrd at first denied that he knew anything about the gunshots. Police then found multiple guns and rounds of ammunition in Byrd's home.

Teacher Accidentally Shoots Herself At Westbrook Elementary School In Utah

Officials say a Utah elementary school teacher who was carrying a concealed firearm at school accidentally shot herself in the leg when the weapon discharged in a faculty bathroom.

Granite School District spokesman Ben Horsley says the gun went off shortly before class started Thursday at Westbrook Elementary School, in the Salt Lake City suburb of Taylorsville. He says the teacher was severely injured when the bullet entered and exited her leg, and she was rushed to the hospital.

No other faculty or students were in the area.

According to Hillsborough County Sheriff's officials, 63-year-old Linda Maddox and her twin grandsons were sleeping after their father had left for work. Maddox told deputies she had placed a chair against the bedroom door handle for extra protection. When she heard the chair sliding against the floor, she assumed it was an intruder and grabbed a loaded .22-caliber revolver she keeps by the bed and fired one shot in the dark toward the door.

A night of fun between two best friends at a sleepover turned deadly when one allegedly accidentally shot the other in the head with a pellet gun, McAlester News-Capital reports. Justin Ingle, 12, died Saturday at a Tulsa, Okla., hospital of head trauma, reports the Raw Story. The incident happened Friday night in the town of Bache. Police say the boy was hit in the temple from only a few feet away by a pellet traveling at 1,250 feet per second, according to KOTV. "This juvenile has got to live with this the rest of his life," the sheriff says, referring to the boy—not being named due to his age—who allegedly fired the shot. He told authorities he didn't think the pellet gun was loaded.

The Fresno County man who campaigned for governor this year has been arrested in connection with the shooting of his neighbor and the slaying of a horse Thursday afternoon.

Tye "Glenn" Champ, 48, was taken into custody around midday Friday near Goshen without incident. A Tulare County sheriff's deputy caught up to him on a traffic stop.

Champ previously served a prison term for manslaughter, has several convictions for weapons offenses and is also a registered sex offender.

Champ campaigned in this year's California primary on a platform that he would clean up state government. He had a brief, scheduled appearance on the dais during the California Republican Party convention in March and attracted 2% of the total vote in June.

Champ is a "felon with an extensive criminal history that dates back to 1985," Mims said.

This is the same man who, when confronted about his arrest concerning picking up an under-aged prostitute, stated, "'I found the Lord when I got arrested for picking up the prostitutes,,,I was like most people, ignorant in the darkness, in the very dark. I had no peace, had no love, had no joy. And now I do. Praise God for that…. I've grown considerably since I met Christ.'"

Pittsburgh police plan to charge a married couple after the woman was accidentally shot in the arm when her husband reached for her cellphone — which the woman carried in her bra along with the gun — during an argument on the street.

The Associated Press is not naming the Carnegie couple because police had yet to file charges Thursday. The incident occurred about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday.

That’s when police say the 35-year-old husband reached for the cellphone, accidentally hitting the gun in the process. The gun fired, wounding the woman in the arm. She ran to nearby Allegheny General Hospital for treatment.

Police said a 13-year-old boy was shot and killed after a group of teens were reportedly playing with a gun.

The fatal shooting happened Sunday night in front of a home on the 1300 block of Northwest Fourth Avenue. Investigators said a group of about five teens were standing around when one of them, a 15-year-old, allegedly pulled the trigger of the gun a few times before it went off.

"Playing with the gun. They was just trying to see like the parts of it. He was trying to take the bullets out but he left one in," said Ashley Kendall. "And he pointed it at him and shot it, nothing happened. Shot it again, nothing happened. The third time, Book got shot in the chest."

The shooting of a 3-year-old girl at a home on the city’s North Side Monday morning has been ruled accidental by Pueblo police.

In the backyard of a home in the 3200 block of Colfax Avenue, the girl was shot in the chest at about 10:15 a.m. The victim was shot a single time, with the bullet entering and exiting without breaking any bones.

The child underwent surgery and was listed in critical condition but stable condition Monday.

The initial Pueblo police investigation indicates that a 9-year-old male child was able to get ahold of a handgun that was in the home. The 9-year-old was in the backyard of the Colfax home with other children when he manipulated the gun. The gun was then handled by a 5-year-old — gender unknown — who pointed it at the victim and pulled the trigger.

A 31-year-old Evanston man is dead after shooting himself in the head with what he thought was an unloaded shotgun in front of a group of friends Sunday night.

Evanston police were called to an apartment in the 800 block of Howard Street about 9:45 p.m. for a caller who said a man had accidentally shot himself in the head, a statement from police said.

The victim, identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office as Eric Zyzanski, 31, was found “on the floor with a shotgun wound to his head. The shotgun was lying beside him,” police said.

He was pronounced dead at a hospital about two hours later, according to police and medical examiner’s office.

State police say the Windber man charged with shooting his pregnant girlfriend Saturday told responders he accidentally shot her in the face after breaking his shotgun during an argument.

Denver Blough, 25, then allegedly worried “What’s going to happen to my baby?” as they took him to the state police barracks in Somerset, investigators said.

Caressa Kovalcik, 23, died the night of the shooting from a shotgun head wound, shortly after an emergency surgery was conducted at Memorial Medical Center to deliver the child she had been carrying for nine months.

The cesarean section procedure was reportedly completed without complications although the baby was flown to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh for care.

Blough faces a tentative preliminary hearing on June 11 before District Judge William Seger on criminal homicide, attempted criminal homicide and aggravated assault charges, among others.

Toddler Fatally Shot By 3-Year-Old Brother, Police Say

A 3-year-old Payson boy shot and killed his 1½ -year-old brother after the boys found a handgun in a neighbor's apartment and took it to another room, the eastern Arizona town's police chief said Wednesday.

Police Chief Don Engler said his department's investigation of the Tuesday shooting will take about a week. Results will be forwarded to the Gila County Attorney's Office for a decision on whether to prosecute anybody, he said.

"What we're taking a look at is the circumstances regarding the securing of the weapon" and how the boys were able to get ahold of it, Engler told The Associated Press. "We are continuing our investigation, and we haven't ruled out criminal charges at this point."

A Minnesota man was arrested last week after pulling a shotgun on a neighbor who was teaching his 7-year-old daughter to ride a bike.

According to the arrest complaint, 61-year-old Gary Drake began making comments about the father’s tactics May 25 as he taught the girl to ride on the cul-de-sac they shared.

The father told his neighbor, “I’ve got it,” which apparently angered the older man.

“If you don’t like my advice, get off my street,” Drake told the man, who reminded his neighbor he didn’t own the street.

This apparently angered Drake even more, and police said he went inside to retrieve a Remington 870 shotgun.

He came back with the weapon and threatened to kill the father, but Drake’s wife came outside, pulled the gun away from him, and physically dragged her husband back inside.

Former Fort Smith (Arkansas) Police Department officer Naaman Adcock seems to have a bit of an anger management problem, we think. On Tuesday, he and his wife, Tabatha, were arrested at their Sequoyah County home after a drunken altercation in which both Adcocks fired shots inside the single-wide and Mr. Adcock reportedly held a gun to his 5-year-old stepson’s head. The Adcocks were arrested after another child ran from the home and notified a neighbor. And because you can never be too sure who’s trying to pull a home invasion, he also pointed a handgun at a Sequoyah County Sheriff’s deputy who came to investigate the incident.

For this little incident, he was placed on paid administrative leave, because due process we guess, although Adcock resigned from the Fort Smith Police Department on Wednesday. Oh, and deputies seized nine guns from the home, leaving the five-year-old with no credible deterrent against other intruders.

A Florida man is facing negligence charges after leaving his loaded AK-47 unattended, resulting in his 6-year-old nephew picking it up and accidentally shooting his grandfather.

According to WSVN, Juan Manuel Martinez Jr., 28, has been charged with culpable negligence of a firearm for not keeping an eye on his loaded AK-47, authorities said.

According to police, Martinez was having a beer with his father, Juan Manuel Martinez Sr., at a family barbeque when talk turned to hunting. Martinez Jr. brought out his AK-47 to share, handing it to his father who then set it on a table.

A nephew of Martinez Jr. picked up the unattended assault rifle and pulled the trigger, shooting his grandfather in the chest and killing him.

“In this particular case, investigators informed us, that there was alcohol involved. Not only alcohol. We also had drugs. We had cocaine,” said Miami-Dade Police Detective Alvaro Zabaleta.

Martinez admitted to WSVN that he had been doing drugs and drinking before the accident, saying, “I was smoking marijuana. I was doing cocaine, and I had two beers.”

Martinez called the shooting an accident, saying no one was to blame.

2-year-old Boy Fatally Shot In South Bend Yard

A 2-year-old boy shot dead while playing in the front yard of a South Bend home with his 7-year-old sister may have been struck by a bullet from a gunfight between two rival groups that began about a block away, police said.

An argument began between the two groups around 6 p.m. Wednesday about a block from where the 2-year-old was playing, and escalated into shots being fire, police said. One group began running west toward the boy and the other group continued shooting.

Police say no one has been arrested and no suspects were in custody Thursday in the shooting of John Swoeveland Jr. Autopsy results released Thursday showed the boy died of a gunshot wound to the chest and ruled the death a homicide.
