The Blanchester man who claimed he hid his neighbor in a pit in his shed to protect her from a Satanic sex cult was found guilty of kidnapping and two counts of abduction Tuesday.

Clinton County Judge Tim Rudduck, who heard the bench trial, found Dennis Dunn not guilty on two counts that he abducted his neighbor, Jennifer Elliot, for sex.

Rudduck set sentencing for April 19. Dunn could get three to 10 years after both sides agreed to combine sentencing under the kidnapping count.

Jennifer Elliot was speechless, shaking and seizing by the time Blanchester police Officer Mark Keller found her on April 26, 2017. She was curled on her side with her knees raised to her chest, whimpering wordlessly, at the bottom of a three-foot pit in her neighbor’s shed.

The pit had been concealed by boards so heavy Keller tore a muscle in his abdomen lifting them, he said in court Monday. Speaking in a bench trial before Judge Tim Rudduck, Keller described her as seeming to have little awareness of her situation — just enough to scream and fight the paramedics who tried to put her on a stretcher.

Her repeated plea, according to Keller: Don’t let him put me back in that hole.

The him in question, neighbor Dennis Dunn, claimed Monday he had not kidnapped Elliot or held her prisoner. Instead, he said, she had convinced him to bury her in order to hide her from an abusive, Satanic sex cult of which she was a member.

The man accused of killing a 19-year-old woman on Saturday morning told police he was seeing faces and hearing voices before the murder, according to court documents. Duncan police interviewed 18-year-old Kevin Miller just hours after he allegedly shot Caitlin Harmon at his home in the 700 block of Drexal Place.

According to records, DPD was called to the home a little after 2:00 a.m. on Saturday after there were reports of a woman who was bleeding from the head. When officers arrived they found Harmon dead on the bed in Miller's bedroom. Miller's dad told police Kevin had come to his apartment area behind the home and told him he had shot Harmon. When the dad went to check on Harmon, that is when he found her. The older Miller then woke up his wife and told her what had happened and that is when she called 911.

Miller's mother told police Kevin suffered from mental issues and she believed he was possessed by a demon. She told police during an interview that they had taken him to Tulsa to have the demon removed.

The 37-year-old Dos Palos woman who is accused of killing her mother in an alleged “Satanic” sacrifice was held to answer for murder.

Melissa Bal was looking down while rocking back and forth in her chair as a 9-1-1 tape was played as evidence during a preliminary hearing on the murder charge Thursday in Merced Superior Court.

Two Merced County Sheriff’s Office detectives also testified during the hearing, in which Merced County Judge Jeanne Schechter determined there was enough evidence to head to trial.

But in investigators’ reports, Bal told authorities “It was a calling to kill her” mother as part of a “satanic practice.” She also told them she has used a variety of illegal drugs, and she consumed five beers the night before the murder.

Family members and others told investigators Bal had mental issues and was making troubling statements of a sexual nature the night before, and that she would occasionally make statements referring to satanic practice.
