Most of them are staying home and watching Falcon Crest."

One candidate is focused on the "real issues of - education, transportation, taxes." Whilst the other has chosen the road of hot button social issues, counting on that all important 15 percent.

Frey says he’s also talking about business and taxes. He says education is a particular passion, developed while working with then-state senator Michele Bachmann to defeat the “profiles in learning” education platform.

But when questioned about his position on social issues, Frey added that it “does certainly need to be addressed for what it is. It’s not about the gay agenda but about the science and the financial impact of that agenda. It’s more about sodomy than about pigeonholing a lifestyle.”

Frey then explained his view: “When you have egg and sperm that meet in conception, there’s an enzyme in the front that burns through the egg. The enzyme burns through so the DNA can enter the egg. If the sperm is deposited anally, it's the enzyme that causes the immune system to fail. That’s why the term is AIDS – acquired immunodeficiency syndrome.”

(This explanation of AIDS has no scientific validity, but it may strike a familiar chord: It is essentially the same one given by Bob's son, Mike Frey, in testimony given before the House Civil Law Committee last year during the debate over gay marriage.)

Of the financial impact, Bob Frey says, “It’s about sodomy. It’s huge amounts of money. AIDS is a long term illness, causing pain, suffering, death, a long-term illness that’s very expensive to treat.”

Similar to my early schooling which loosely followed a Montessori based education paradigm. It is a long article but worth the read if you have school age kids. When I was a child in the 1950s, my friends and I had two educations. We had school (which was not the big deal it is today), and we also had what I call a hunter-gather education. We played in mixed-age neighbourhood groups almost every day after school, often until dark. We played all weekend and all summer long. We had time to explore in all sorts of ways, and also time to become bored and figure out how to overcome boredom, time to get into trouble and find our way out of it, time to daydream, time to immerse ourselves in hobbies, and time to read comics and whatever else we wanted to read rather than the books assigned to us. What I learnt in my hunter-gatherer education has been far more valuable to my adult life than what I learnt in school, and I think others in my age group would say the same if they took time to think about it.

For more than 50 years now, we in the United States have been gradually reducing children’s opportunities to play, and the same is true in many other countries. In his book Children at Play: An American History (2007), Howard Chudacoff refers to the first half of the 20th century as the ‘golden age’ of children’s free play. By about 1900, the need for child labour had declined, so children had a good deal of free time. But then, beginning around 1960 or a little before, adults began chipping away at that freedom by increasing the time that children had to spend at schoolwork and, even more significantly, by reducing children’s freedom to play on their own, even when they were out of school and not doing homework. Adult-directed sports for children began to replace ‘pickup’ games; adult-directed classes out of school began to replace hobbies; and parents’ fears led them, ever more, to forbid children from going out to play with other kids, away from home, unsupervised. There are lots of reasons for these changes but the effect, over the decades, has been a continuous and ultimately dramatic decline in children’s opportunities to play and explore in their own chosen ways.

Over the same decades that children’s play has been declining, childhood mental disorders have been increasing. It’s not just that we’re seeing disorders that we overlooked before. Clinical questionnaires aimed at assessing anxiety and depression, for example, have been given in unchanged form to normative groups of schoolchildren in the US ever since the 1950s. Analyses of the results reveal a continuous, essentially linear, increase in anxiety and depression in young people over the decades, such that the rates of what today would be diagnosed as generalised anxiety disorder and major depression are five to eight times what they were in the 1950s. Over the same period, the suicide rate for young people aged 15 to 24 has more than doubled, and that for children under age 15 has quadrupled.

In my book, Free to Learn (2013), I document these changes, and argue that the rise in mental disorders among children is largely the result of the decline in children’s freedom. If we love our children and want them to thrive, we must allow them more time and opportunity to play, not less. Yet policymakers and powerful philanthropists are continuing to push us in the opposite direction — toward more schooling, more testing, more adult direction of children, and less opportunity for free play.

The OPM's ruling (pertinent part quoted above) is that members of Congress and their staffers purchasing health insurance coverage on the new health insurance exchanges would be able to purchase a plan that includes abortion coverage but only with their own personal contribution to premium costs.

In an unsurprising turn of events, Ryan has signed on as cosponsor to the Sanctity of Human Life Act again. The original bill — which declares that life begins with fertilization, and would give states the right to ban all abortion, even in the cases involving incest, rape, or the life of the mother — thankfully died in Congress in 2011.

But now it's baaaaack, which is scary because not only is the above terrifying, there's all sorts of other creepy shit hidden in this monster. Like, if a woman who was raped in a state that banned abortions went to a state that didn't ban abortions and had an abortion? Her rapist could theoretically sue to stop the abortion from happening, and probably win. And it doesn't stop there with the reproductive weirdness, if passed, it'll probably make many forms of IVF illegal.**

Luckily, it's almost for sure gonna die again, but I wonder if Ryan's career will go the way of the dodo bird soon after? The tide is turning, and a majority of voters don't want politicians making women's health choices for them. For everyone's sake, it would be best for Ryan and politicians like him to see this as the death rattle. Pack up your moral indignation and head home, guys, I'm sure there's a pot roast in your kitchen you can mansplain your garbage feelings on women's reproductive rights to.

In other abortion news, Stephanie Mencimer reports that the same bill would likely have the effect of making in-vitro fertilization illegal. My Twitter feed is full of outrage that Stephanie would say this, but what else can you conclude about the law? In IVF, multiple embryos are created, and only a few are used.

Because of course, the “overall white vote,” as Politico suggested too, is the “gold standard” of votes.

Because the non-white vote is only three-fifths of a vote, perhaps?

We should start reminding the disloyal opposition, aka the GOP, the Tea Party, and conservatives, that 150 years ago, America fought the Civil War. And America won.

<Saying this with much acid dripping sarcasm I can muster> Well miss, we have a plan for that, it's called the ER.  You see now little lady, an amblance will come pick ya up when you is not feelin well.  It will plop ya into the nearest hospital.  Where the fine, scientifically uneducated doctors, (who went to the Akin's school of medicine BTW) will bring your little ole fever down so you can return home and subserviently cater to your husband's every need.  All the while pooping out young spiritual warriors for our grand cause!!

And BTW, unlike Mrs. Robme,  my friend can not afford an Olympic horse for therapy for her MS!!

Second problem, citing a 1978 article??  Dude it's not being reported because it is not likely not occurring:  one abortion clinic,,,Chicago,,, 1978 (5 years after Roe v Wade).

According to Akin, it's still happening, frequently, "Tyler cited a Chicago Sun-Times article from 1978 that found,,,"

Third problem, doesn't have a shred of evidence to support his claim:

"He said there were no more recent examples because the media had stopped reporting on it."

Well let's see, given your position and your concern over this issue since 2008 why the hell haven't you investigated this issue yourself then?  WTF,,,
