ISIL Persecutes LGBT People, Experts Tell UN | Al Jazeera America

The Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) has claimed responsibility for executing at least 30 people accused of sodomy, the head of an international gay rights organization told the U.N. Security Council on Monday.

The executive director of the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission, Jessica Stern, said that courts established by ISIL claim to have punished sodomy with stoning, firing squads, beheadings and by pushing people from tall buildings.

"In addition to men perceived as gay, trans-identified people and lesbians are among those who have been raped and killed," Stern said.

Stern, who addressed the issue at the council’s first-ever meeting on LGBT rights, says fear of the group, which controls large swathes of Iraq and Syria, has fueled violence by other armed groups and "private actors" against gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgender individuals.

"It's about time, 70 years after the creation of the U.N., that the fate of LGBT persons who fear for their lives around the world is taking center stage," said U.S. Ambassador Samantha Power, who organized the meeting on violence and discrimination against LGBT people with Chile’s U.N. envoy, Cristian Barros Melet.

Stern called for specific strategies to combat LGBT attacks, including U.N. action to relocate those most in need and bringing the gay community into broader human rights and humanitarian initiatives.

Where Do the Lies About LGBTIs in Africa Come From? | Michael Ashworth

This is an excellent example of The Religious Right’s 10-Point Playbook For Hijacking Nations
Shocking legislative developments have focused Western media attention on the gay rights situation across Africa like never before. Many of the column inches dedicated to Uganda's Anti Homosexuality Act have demonstrated an awareness of the complexity of the social and political landscape for African LGBTIs. The colonial provenance of the penal code provisions which outlaw same-sex intercourse has been explored. The claims that "homosexuality is unAfrican" have been shown to be false, thanks to a wealth of anthropological evidence to the contrary. The incoherence of using a religion imposed on Africa by proselytising European missionaries to decry same-sex attraction as unAfrican has not gone unnoticed. In short: on the issue of LGBTI rights in Africa, analysis has (largely) been surprisingly nuanced.

What is generally lacking from Western media, however, is an understanding of some of the most pernicious lies about LGBTIs in Africa -- and relatively few people have asked the question, 'where do the lies come from?'

[,,,]
The migration of the trope from North America to Africa can be explained through the influence of US neoconservative organisations, such as the Institute on Religion and Democracy (IRD). According to a report by the think-tank Political Research Associates, the IRD is "one of the main organizations promoting homophobia in both Africa and the United States over the last decade." The report claims that while mainstream Episcopal church funding in Africa is directed towards visible projects -- and therefore requires accountability on how money is spent -- "conservative funding pays the salaries of archbishops and their staffs," concluding that "archbishops' offices have become mouthpieces of U.S. conservatives."
,,,
While the situation for LGBTIs across Africa is far from uniformly pessimistic, any judicial victories will be diluted by the extreme social hostility fomented by these toxic beliefs and by the American religious fundamentalists who sustain them. What is needed is a brighter spotlight shone on the role that foreigners have had in stoking anti-LGBTI hatred in Africa by co-opting postcolonial politics for their own ends. The notion that money flows from abroad to fund a 'homosexual agenda' needs to be countered forcefully with the indisputable truth that foreign money is flooding from the US to fund an insidious neoconservative agenda. The lies told about LGBTIs in Africa need to be exposed as such.

Starkville, Mississippi Mayor Makes Brave Stand For LGBT Equality, Vetoes Repeal Of Gay-Rights Measures: VIDEO| Gay News | Towleroad

Starkville, Mississippi Mayor Parker Wiseman is standing up to bigoted and spineless members of the city's Board of Aldermen who are intent on repealing historic gay-rights initiatives approved last year.

Starkville, which has a population of 24,000 and sits adjacent to Mississippi State University, became the first city in the state to approve a statement of support for LGBT equality in January — and the first to extend benefits to the domestic partners of employees in September.

WynnBut those policies have been under fire ever since from anti-LGBT members of the city's Board of Aldermen, who initially voted to repeal domestic partner benefits two weeks later — claiming they didn't realize the new insurance policy they approved had included them. After Wiseman vetoed the repeal, Alderman Lisa Wynn (right) walked out of a meeting, leaving the anti-LGBT coalition one member short of the five-vote supermajority needed to override the mayor's decision.

Now Wynn reportedly has flip-flopped again — joining a 5-2 majority that voted last Tuesday to repeal both policies during a three-hour closed door meeting with no public input, scrutiny or record of how members voted. In a letter vetoing the latest repeal effort on Friday, Wiseman called out the aldermen, listing how they voted and eloquently defending the policies.

Rick Wiles: Obama Using Gay Rights And ISIS To Destroy America | Right Wing Watch

I see that the fraud Walid Shoebat is in the "news" again parsing his faux terrorism expertise. He is a hate monger plain and simple. So it should come as no surprise that Rick Wiles would have him on his show, although you would think that if Wiles wanted to be taken seriously he would vet his guests a better.
On Friday, “Trunews” host Rick Wiles said that President Obama is “waging jihad” on America through gay rights advocacy and the extremist group ISIS, which Wiles believes is a U.S. government proxy. During an interview with Walid Shoebat, an anti-Muslim commentator who is the favorite of many conservative groups and media outlets, Wiles claimed that “Barack Obama is more than a Muslim, he is a jihadist.”

“He is waging jihad from inside the White House, his foreign policy is 100 percent pro-Islam, he has waged jihad on this country, he has shredded the Constitution, he has defiled the U.S. military by forcing the military to accept homosexuality,” he said.

“Obama is destroying Christian America, that’s his assignment as a jihadist, it is to destroy Christian America.”

After Wiles said that CIA director John Brennan is also “an Islamist,” Shoebat claimed that the U.S. government is feeling the effects of an Islamist “infiltration.” Shoebat added that God is punishing America with Obama’s presidency: “America has abandoned its Judeo-Christian ethics and so God has given them to their own desires and that’s why we have Obama. When Americans wake up and God removes Obama and we have a different president, maybe God will have mercy on us.”

Lobbyist drafts bill to ban gays from NFL | TheHill

Isn't 22-23 years old a bit old to be invoking the "mommy" issue? And isn't this type of legislation, big ole gov'ment stickin' their noses into private business affairs, exactly what the Reich is against? Leave it to homophobia to be the one thing to rally the troops into legislating government control over private industry.

”We are losing our decency as a nation,” Burkman said in a statement. "Imagine your son being forced to shower with a gay man. That’s a horrifying prospect for every mom in the country. What in the world has this nation come to?”

Burkman said he came up with the idea after college football star Michael Sam publicly revealed he is gay a few weeks ago. If drafted, Sam would be the first openly gay player in the NFL.

[,,,]
“If the NFL has no morals and no values, then Congress must find values for it,” Burkman said.

Burkman serves as founder and president of his own lobbying firm, Burkman Associates. He has also worked as of counsel at law firm Holland & Knight. In the 1990s, he served as counsel to then-Rep. Rick Lazio (R-N.Y.).

Students Block Westboro Baptist Church's Michael Sam Protest With Wall Of Love

All that needs to be said concerning Michael Sam,,,

"Our hope is for the wall to reflect a unified student body and symbolize a display of love towards our own tiger, Michael Sam," students Kelaney Lakers and Alix Carruth said in a statement to the press, obtained by the Riverfront Times. "We're humbled and a bit overwhelmed by the community's response. This issue is so much bigger than either of us, and we want to do justice to Michael Sam and show him that Mizzou loves him."

September Is 'Ex-Gay Awareness Month,' According To Family Research Council Groups

Hmm,,Let's see they had 10 people show up at their original "Ex-Gay Pride" event,,,how many do they honestly think will support this dreck for a whole month,,,

The original "Ex-Gay Pride" might have been an overall bust, but that hasn't stopped the right-wing group behind its inception from trying a second time.

As Right Wing Watch originally reported, Voice of the Voiceless and Equality and Justice for All have declared September "Ex-Gay Awareness Month," which will include a special "lobbying day and evening dinner" in Washington, D.C. on Sept. 30.

Details of those events, which include a "pre-event get-together and lobby education training" event on Sept. 29, can be found here.

Both Voice of the Voiceless and Equality and Justice for All are two new ex-gay rights organizations that were to be launched by the Family Research Council's legislative affiliate, FRC Action, in July.

Gold stars go to,,,,

Also at the same time you have advanced our march towards Communism and the murder of the masses,,,

Alan Keyes took that argument one step further during an interview with Stan Solomon, where he maintained that if the government goes against divine law and legalizes same-sex marriage then the state will have limitless power, ultimately becoming a Communist regime that will authorize “the expropriation of all property” and “the murder of the masses.”

And of course we can't leave out the Illuminati,,,
Robertson told viewers that the French Revolution was “spurred by the writings of a group called the Illuminati,” which meant “to destroy the family, to destroy the state, to destroy capitalism and to destroy the church.” The gay community, he claimed, has similarly broad goals. “We have here a debate over same-sex marriage,”

I would be remiss in my duties to not also add Matthew Bent for supporting his son, he gets 15 gold stars,,,

Gays 'should die': A timeline of the Salvation Army's anti-gay flare-ups - The Week

The primary reason I do not support any efforts by the salvation army,,,in mid 90s when I was first dx'd with bipolar and unable to work, I requested needed help and was denied solely because I was living with my partner at the time,,,altho this specific rhetoric was not the stated reason, the fact I was gay was,,,

And recently, Maj. Andrew Craibe, the media relations officer for Australia's southern territory, reminded us of that fact by agreeing on-air with two gay radio hosts that the Salvation Army believes gay people "should die." The group quickly scrambled to clarify Craibe's remark — after all, the Salvation Army's mission is to "preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination" — but this is hardly the Salvation Army's first run-in with the gay community. Here, a look at the influential charity's challenging history with homosexuality and gay rights,,,

Gay couple sues Asian restaurant that canceled wedding reception over bad 'feng shui' - StumbleUpon

The NYDN was unable to reach restaurant owner Qi Yeng Lin, but quotes the manager of another Greenwich Village restaurant owned by the same company, Bo Lee, as saying, “Feng shui has to do with luck and fortune. It has to do with where do you put your plants and flowers, your furniture. It has nothing to do with who are your clients.”

Optimistic or Delusional? Why Gay Republicans Stand By Their Party’s Bigoted Platform | Alternet

This piece follows a similar vane of another article,,,the "new" GOP, what we have seen over the last 8-12 years, could give a rat's ass what public opinion has to say,,,it doesn't fit with their dominionist ideology,,,as much as I applaud their attempts for change from within, IMHO it's going to take a mass revolt and leaving the party to make any changes,,,instead of following the party line,,,

Talking to people at the reception made me wonder at the fine, fuzzy line dividing optimism from delusion.“This is our party..,” LCR’s Clarke Cooper insists. “We are here to make it stronger and more inclusive.”

[,,,]
,,,the kind of resistance to LGBT equality that is reflected in this year’s platform is a generational issue -- "the last gasp of the conservatives," he calls it -- and boldly predicts that this is the last year in which the platform will contain such language. When I suggest that if Ralph Reed’s turnout operation among conservative evangelicals does as much for the Republicans in November as Reed hopes, the party is not likely to turn its backs on the anti-gay religious right base, Kolbe shrugs and says both parties appeal to their bases for turnout. “We will have the victory,” he says.

[,,,]
If 2004 was a turning point, she says, 2012 could be a “tipping point,” at which shifting public opinion makes overt anti-gay politicking unfeasible. “You can’t demagogue gay people forever.” Perkins, however, may have a different opinion on that -- and no small measure of power in the G.O.P.

[,,,]
,,, Rep. John Tierney, is openly gay, pro-choice and pro-marriage equality, but none of these issues appear on his campaign’s issues page, which pushes standard right-wing talking points on “Obamacare,” Medicare, the economy, education, and the Middle East. Of course, that doesn’t phase the Log Cabin Republicans,,,

Curtis Knapp, Kansas Pastor Who Said Government Should Kill Gays, Defends Statements

Follow up to and earlier posting,,,

"We punish pedophilia," Pastor Curtis Knapp of the New Hope Baptist Church in Seneca, Kan. "We punish incest, we punish polygamy and various things. It's only homosexuality that is lifted out as an exemption."

[,,,]

"Oh, so you're saying we should go out and start killing them? No, I'm saying the government should. They won't, but they should."
