UPDATED:: 'Am I going to die?' Gay man testifies at church trial

UPDATE::  WoFF’s Walker trial in Matthew Fenner case continued
The State versus Robert Walker trial scheduled to have begun Monday, Oct. 23, 2017 has been continued to a future date. In a memo to Judge Marvin Pope on Wednesday, Assistant District Attorney (ADA) Garland F. Byers, Jr. filed an email  on Wednesday stating that “by Order of this Court without objection by the State due to new discovery which has just been generated in regards to this case and which defense counsel will need in order to adequately prepare for trial,” confirming the continuance.

The district attorney’s office at the same time notified the Buncombe County Clerk of Superior Court that the case would not be called on Monday. Presiding Judge Marvin Pope had ordered a change of venue for the Matthew Fenner cases after a mistrial was declared in the Brooke Covington case and the extensive publicity concerning the Word of Faith Fellowship members’ cases.

The WoFF has recently gained national and international publicity regarding its worship practice of blasting, alleged non-payment of Brazilian workers, broken families, arranged marriages, and possible misconduct of some of the attorneys within the church as reported by the Associated Press.
UPDATE::  Juror's documents lead to mistrial in gay beating trial
A judge held a juror in contempt and declared a mistrial Tuesday in the case of a North Carolina church minister charged in the beating of a congregant who says he was attacked to expel his "homosexual demons."
Superior Court Judge Gary Gavenus immediately sentenced the juror, Perry Shade Jr., to 30 days in jail and a $500 fine. Gavenus said Shade brought in three documents Tuesday and handed them out to his fellow jurors. One of the documents was North Carolina case law.

Gavenus said he wasn't sure when a new trial would be scheduled for Brooke Covington, 58, a longtime minister at Word of Faith Fellowship in Spindale, North Carolina. Covington faced up to two years in prison if convicted on charges of kidnapping and assaulting former member Matthew Fenner in January 2013.

"This juror has impaired the integrity and fairness of the trial ... therefore I am removing this juror and declaring a mistrial," Gavenus said.

The audience gasped. Fenner dropped his head.
__

A North Carolina man thought he was "going to die" when members of his evangelical church beat and choked him for two hours to expel his "homosexual demons," he testified Thursday.

Matthew Fenner was the first person to take the stand in the assault and kidnapping trial of Brooke Covington, a 58-year-old minister at Word of Faith Fellowship in Spindale, North Carolina.

Fenner, 23, said Covington was the leader in a 2013 beating involving numerous congregants. He said Covington pointed out his sexual orientation, saying, "God said there is something wrong in your life."
,,,
Covington faces up to two years in prison if convicted. She is the first of five church members to face trial in the case. Each defendant will be tried separately.

Tony Perkins Agrees '100 Percent' That Donald Trump Would Be Better For The LGBT Community Than Hillary Clinton | Right Wing Watch

I am just not sure what realm of reality Perkins and his ilk operate on.  This is coming as defense to a man who yesterday announced the most viral and vitriolic, anti-gay advisory board to support Trump on issues important to religious fucktards in America.
"What he was saying is no American, regardless of your political ideology or your life choices, should be living under the threat of a terrorist attack on the streets of the United States of America," Perkins said. "I agree 100 percent with that. No American, no American, which they are under Barack Obama, living in fear because of Islamic terrorists coming to this country; so yes, LGBT, Catholic, Protestant atheist — as one who wore the uniform as a United States Marine and was a police officer, no American, no American should live in fear and that is exactly what Donald Trump was saying and evangelicals believe the same thing."

Donald Trump Taps Michele Bachmann, James Dobson & Other Far-Right Leaders For Advisory Board | Right Wing Watch

Ya know that whole underwear changing thing I was talking about with Trump?  If this is this man's "advisors" I would hate to see who he considers the "enemy" so to speak.
According to Bachmann, the September 11 attacks represented God’s judgment on America; President Obama and gay rights advocates are bringing about the End Times; homosexuality is “personal enslavement” and “part of Satan”; gay people want to change laws “so that adults will be able to freely prey on little children sexually”; and Obamacare death panels will literally kill people any day now.

Texas-based televangelist Kenneth Copeland is also on the advisory board even though God told him that Ted Cruz would be the next president. Like Trump, Copeland has been implicated in financial scandals and preaches against vaccines, which may have been a reason that one of his churches suffered a measles outbreak.

Dobson, who once said that he could not support Trump, has a long history with the anti-LGBT Right, warning that gay marriage will lead to a second civil war and pastors going to prison, as well as ushering in the destruction of religious freedom, God’s judgment on America and the transformation of the U.S. into Nazi Germany. He even linked same-sex marriage to the Sandy Hook shooting.
It's like a Whose Who list of anti gay hate.  Only ones missing are Scott Lively, Rick Warren, and Peter LaBarbera.

Mat Staver: Gay Marriage Is A 'Lie From The Pit Of Hell' | Right Wing Watch

How a man of so-called authority is able to say any unsupported and irrational nonsense you feel like without having your followers question your intelligence or sanity is beyond me.
Same-sex marriage, Staver said, “puts every household at risk because same-sex marriage, by its nature, says that, ‘boys and girls, you don’t need moms and dads,’ that they are completely irrelevant, that two men or two women are just as good as a mother and a father and that’s a complete lie from the pit of hell. It’s just simply not true. To deprive forever a boy of ever having the opportunity of a father or a mother or a girl of a father or a mother is damaging and we will see the damage that is ultimately reaped against these children as they grow up and become our future leaders.

Church leaders that praised Orlando mass killing asked to move ABC10 Staff , WMAZ 8:46 PM. EST June 21, 2016

The property management company and owner of the building in which Verity Baptist Church and its Pastor Roger Jimenez preside have decided not to renew the church’s lease, and have asked church officials to consider moving.

While Harsch Investment Properties, owner of the Northgate Business Park where the church is located, cannot legally evict the church under the terms of the lease, representatives of the property management company say they cannot tolerate “tenants who advocate hatred and the taking of innocent lives.”

“We have many places of worship and other religious organizations in the properties we manage,” company officials stated in a press release. “Like all our tenants, their occupancy rights are protected in their leases.”

Officials said they have communicated their views to church officials, and while their lease does not expire until March 31, 2017, the property managers have asked them to consider moving out of the business park.

Bryan Fischer: 'Homosexuals Were At The Core Of Forming The Nazi Party' | Right Wing Watch

As I have stated before, Fischer's pathetically false statement may come from Scott Lively's book the Pink Swastika: Homosexuality in the Nazi Party, (1995) it is his favorite canard and he uses it very well.
Lively's ideas have proven too radical for the mainstream family values movement, but they've gotten some traction on the far right. Bryan Fischer, director of issues analysis for the influential American Family Association, regularly parrots his arguments linking gays to Nazis. ("Homosexuality gave us Adolph Hitler," he opined in a 2010 post on the organization's website, "and homosexuals in the military gave us the Brown Shirts, the Nazi war machine and six million dead Jews.")
Regardless of its origination, it nice to see Fischer owning up to his ignorance of world history.  While he recognizes the import of Night of the Long Knives (or Röhm Putsch) he totally misses the point - again!!
Fischer declared that nobody else within the conservative movement has been willing to admit this historical fact because they saw what happened to him when first did so several years back.

"I said that back in 2009, got absolutely hammered, got absolutely blistered," Fischer said, "and I think what happened is people like Jonah Goldberg saw what happened to somebody who was willing to step out and tell the truth about the origins of the Nazi party, that it was rooted in the homosexual movement, homosexual community; it was formed in a gay bar in Munich, most of the officers of the SA, the Stormtroopers, were homosexuals, you had no chance of advancing in the Stormtroopers unless you were a practicing homosexual."
It was a purge of those who threatened Hitler's power. Homosexuals like Ernst Rohm were tolerated as long as they were useful, then eradicated like everyone else wearing a pink triangle.
No Bryan, it had nothing to do with homosexuality.  Ernst Röhm was a founding member of the party who happened to be a homosexual. Hitler arrested him in 1934 and he was shot in a jail cell days later. There is much more to the story but the Nazi's arrested and killed gay people during their time in power. Ya know the whole pink triangle thing,,,WTF!!

If the LGBTQI community had half the influence and power the Reich gives us, we would rule the world.

‘God will finish the job’: Texas pastor prays for injured Orlando survivors to die

Some may remember this,
"They are all pedophiles," Pastor Romero lies. "They're always trying to rape and hurt other people. They're relentless. They are relentless. They are predators and given an opportunity to snatch one of your children, they would do it in a heartbeat."
It was spoken by Steven L. Anderson's protege Donnie Romero in late 2014.

Well Romero is at it again,
And I will pray to God like I did this morning, I will do it tonight, I’ll pray that God will finish the job that that man started, and he will end their life, and by tomorrow morning they will all be burning in hell, just like the rest of them, so that they don’t get any more opportunity to go out and hurt little children.

Theodore Shoebat On Orlando Massacre: It's 'The State's Job To Kill The Sodomites,' Not Vigilantes | Right Wing Watch

There are no words to justify this kind of hatred,,,
"I don't believe in vigilantism, but I do believe in the government killing the sodomites," he explained. "I do believe in the government arresting the sodomites and executing them for homosexuality. Under my rule, that sodomite club in Orlando, it would have been destroyed, it would have been demolished, bulldozed and all the bastards in there would have been arrested, tried, found guilty for homosexuality and executed."

Kevin Swanson: God Let Orlando Massacre Happen Because The Sins Of Homosexuality And Islam Lead To Murder | Right Wing Watch

As if on cue,,,
Yesterday, Colorado-based pastor Kevin Swanson addressed the massacre at a gay nightclub in Orlando by arguing that homosexuality and Islam are both inherently violent because God gives gay people and Muslims up to their dishonorable ways and other sins like murder.

“Why do homosexuals murder homosexuals?” he asked. Because, according to Romans 1, “God gave them up to vile passions.” “Violence” and “murder,” he said, are deeply tied to homosexuality.

Scott Lively: Acceptance Of Homosexuality Is A 'Dress Rehearsal' For The End Times | Right Wing Watch

"I believe we're in End Times," he said, "and that we're being prepared as a body for a time when the Antichrist is going to appear on the scene and the Mark of the Beast is going to be something that all believers are going to be presented with this challenge. It seems that the issue of homosexuality and the way that it's being addressed in society and in the church is kind of a dress rehearsal for that."

At trial in stabbing, mother testifies defendant isn’t anti-gay | The Sacramento Bee

Word that three popular local musicians attacked on a street corner by a knife-wielding man who hurled anti-gay slurs shocked and disturbed Sacramento’s tight-knit midtown. Months after the late-night attack, the suspect’s mother took the stand at his assault trial Tuesday in Sacramento Superior Court to tell how her son embraced her own longtime same-sex relationship.

Timothy Brownell, 25, faces assault charges stemming from the attack on musicians Alex Lyman, Blake Abbey and Weston Richmond outside the Press Club bar at 21st and O streets in the early hours of June 22, 2015.

Prosecutors allege Brownell lobbed the homophobic slurs while stabbing Abbey, lead singer for the band Musical Charis in the arm and guitarist Lyman of Slaves in the side, narrowly missing his spleen. Richmond suffered a broken hand and suffered minor cuts in the bloody incident. Sacramento police also investigated the attack as a hate crime in response to claims on social media that Brownell targeted the men because they wore skinny jeans.

Gay slurs spray-painted on walls at Southwest Ranches school

Police are investigating after gay slurs were spray-painted on several walls at Archbishop Edward A. McCarthy High School in Southwest Ranches.

Archdiocese of Miami spokeswoman Mary Ross Agosta said an administrator at the school discovered the graffiti Monday morning as employees were arriving at work.

A school official told Local 10 News reporter Michael Seiden that surveillance video captured two masked vandals spray-painting inside the school.

Readying U.S. pastor’s trial over anti-gay venom in Uganda | 76 CRIMES

Frank Mugisha, Sexual Minorities Uganda (SMUG), provides an update, the most important surrounding Martin Ssempa.  I personally believe since Ssemp is a US citizen, he should be facing the same charges as Lively but my basis for sucjh is justmy disdain for the entire operation.

In early 2015, it was learned that [anti-gay Uganda Pastor] Martin Ssempa is a U.S. citizen, which means he is subject to the U.S. court’s jurisdiction. In May, SMUG requested that the court issue a subpoena, which is a command by a court for a non-party witness to give testimony and produce documents relevant to the issues in the case.  With this subpoena, SMUG seeks to question Ssempa under oath concerning his work with Lively and his involvement in the persecution of the LGBTI community. It is important to emphasize that Ssempa is not a party to this case. He is not himself being sued; SMUG is only seeking his testimony.
The court granted SMUG’s request and issued the subpoena in early May. Since the court’s order, SMUG’s lawyers have attempted to serve Ssempa with the subpoena in order to question him and recover documents from him, but have been unable to locate him.  He has disappeared from social media as well as his TV show and has not been seen publicly.  According to some reports, Ssempa may have disappeared in an attempt to avoid the subpoena.  For example, see [“Pastor Martin Ssempa Summoned: The Question Is, Where Is He And Should We Be Concerned?” on the Uganda Gospel Life blog.]

On Trial for Crime Against Humanity, Homophobe Scott Lively Begs for Cash | Advocate.com

Scott Lively has been a busy little beaver the past month.   According to The Advocate, SMUG has been able to push their case forward.
Antigay Massachusetts pastor Scott Lively is having a hard time — he's currently on trial, facing a lawsuit accusing him of a crime against humanity. Lively is also broke, according to a frantic message he posted on his website last week.

Lively is spending time in a Springfield, Mass. courtroom where a judge is deciding whether to bring a precedent-setting lawsuit to trial. A Ugandan LGBT group called Sexual Minorities Uganda sued Lively over his trips to the nation in the last decade, where, they claim, he convinced local legislators to embrace antigay laws that cost them their freedom, comfort, and privacy.

The Ugandan gay rights group says Lively not only delivered hateful speeches against LGBT people, calling them "brutal," "savage," and harboring a predilection toward pedophilia, he worked with lawmakers to actively take away their rights and put them in harm's way.

In 2009 a bill was introduced in Uganda's Parliament that called for certain consensual gay sex acts to be punishable by death. It never became law; a version calling for life imprisonment did, but it was struck down by the nation's highest court. Still, homosexuality remains illegal in Uganda. Many Ugandan LGBT people live in constant fear of violence, and local gay leaders have been killed. SMUG says Lively is partly to blame for the dangerous environment and should be convicted of a crime against humanity.

SMUG was able to bring the case to court under a statute allowing foreigners to sue Americans in U.S. federal court. Lively is trying to get the case tossed out and denies he's responsible for the horrible conditions that LGBT Ugandans live under.
Where The Advocate only touches on his fundraising, Right Wing Watch goes to town,
Lively bragged that he is being targeted by gay activists because his Abiding Truth Ministries is "one of the most feared and hated pro-family organizations in the world ... because we know more about the history, strategies and tactics of their movement than just about anyone on our side." The downside of being so "feared" is that he is now facing a lawsuit stemming from his anti-gay activism in Uganda, which is why Lively was begging for donations:
My friends, SMUG v Lively is truly a David v Goliath battle. I’m running a one-man office on a shoestring budget of less than $120,000 per year, provided almost entirely by donations of $50 and $100 from average people. Our donor base is small, mostly elderly, and very difficult to expand due to the success of the anti-Lively propaganda. While Liberty Counsel has been funding our legal defense, this lawsuit has nevertheless caused us major financial hardship and seriously threatens our future.
Frankly, I question whether ATM will survive the decade without greater support from the individuals scattered across the society who recognize the danger of the LGBT agenda and are willing to stand with us financially against it. That can only happen if the people who already support us encourage their like-minded friends and allies to donate to us.
In a separate "letter to the international pro-family movement," Lively declared that "the Leaders and Activists of the LGBT movement are malicious deceivers and evil-doers, deliberately subverting civilized society and viciously attacking all opponents to advance their selfish and self-destructive interests" and called for anti-gay activists to focus on preventing the passage of antidiscrimination ordinances that protect sexual orientation in places where they don't already exist and repealing them where they do.

CASE WATCH::Atlanta Refusing to Bow to the Name of Jesus — Charisma News

When one reads the hyperbole surrounding the Cochrane case keep in mind, "it was not because of his religious beliefs, but for his poor judgment in distributing his self-published book that condemned homosexuality. Atlanta has sexual orientation nondiscrimination protections and Cochran was fostering an unwelcoming working environment that did not represent the city’s values. Moreover, while Cochran was suspended for a month to investigate complaints about how he distributed his book, he openly promised to continue engaging in such actions, which Reed felt seriously undermined his 'judgment.'"

Think Progress also notes, "Reed was adamant during Tuesday’s press conference that Cochran’s religious beliefs were not the reason he was fired. His book, Who Told You That You Were Naked?, was published in violation of Atlanta’s Standards of Conduct, which requires approval from the Ethics Officer and the Board of Ethics. According to Reed, Cochran’s 'actions and decision-making undermine his ability to manage our fire department' because employees need to feel that they are 'a valued member of the team and that fairness and respect guide employment decisions.'"
In the 2013 book, "Who Told You That You Were Naked?", Cochran called homosexuality "vulgar" and "the opposite of purity." He was fired early this year after employees complained to city council members about the book's content, Atlanta city attorney Robert N. Godfrey said.

"The city of Atlanta has a policy of non-discrimination," Godfrey said in court. "This book runs completely afoul of those principles."

U.S. District Court Judge Leigh May said during Wednesday's hearing that there had not yet been time for depositions in the lawsuit filed in February, suggesting she was not ready to throw it out. But she did not immediately issue a ruling.

Cochran is seeking to return to his job with back pay.
,,,
Theriot noted that most of the books that Cochran gave away at work were to employees who asked for copies.
So my question would be, if "'[t]he fire chief wasn’t passing the book around, except to people who asked for it,”' how offensive is what he wrote that someone that received said book felt the need to report it?

Scott Lively, Due On Trial For “Crimes Against Humanity” Early 2016, Will Be Represented By Kim Davis’s Law Firm

But…he takes care of homeless people. And he’s a Family Man. And he is a Pastor.  And he found a way to put his life together — and then some — after 16 years of struggle. And…

He is one of the most dangerous people walking on the face of the earth today.

He’s due to go to trial near the beginning of 2016. Guess who’s representing him?
The case, filed in 2012, is expected to go to trial early next year in a U.S. district court in Massachusetts….

Lively is represented by Liberty Counsel, a Christian law firm that also represents Kim Davis, the Kentucky clerk who was recently jailed for her refusal to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.
That’s right. Liberty Counsel — the hate group currently supporting Kim Davis.
And when it comes to Kim Davis herself, according to the Religion News Service, Lively complimented her “courage and commitment.”

Right. You know what takes “courage and commitment”? People who have to be in hiding from the laws Lively allegedly helped pass who, nevertheless, go on national television and speak against them.
I have posted quite a bit about Lively and his anti-gay antics, but not much concerning his upcoming trial (my bad).  Quite frankly his trial falls under an area of law - the Alien Tort Statute (ATS) - I have no knowledge of. According to the Center for Constitutional Rights (CRR):
This is the first ATS case seeking accountability for persecution on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity as a crime against humanity. The United States Supreme Court has affirmed the use of the ATS as a remedy for serious violations of international law that are widely accepted and clearly defined. Persecution is defined in international law as the "intentional and severe deprivation of fundamental rights contrary to international law by reason of the identity of the group or collectivity." Lively – a U.S.-based attorney, author, and self-described world-leading expert on the “gay movement” – has traveled to Uganda and other countries, including Russia, and played a key role in the effort to strip LGBTI people of fundamental rights, including the rights to free expression, association, and assembly.
I am sure with Liberty Counsel now at the helm of his defense, we will be hearing about how Lively is such a martyr for the Christian cause.

Russia jails six who tortured gay teens, posted videos online and drove them to suicide - Gay Star News

Six members of Occupy Pedophilia, the group that tortured gay teens, posted the videos online and drove many of them to suicide, have been jailed.

Police in the Russian region of Ural arrested nine who were luring unsuspecting young victims through personal ads.

They manipulated the young men, many of them teens, who would show up for a ‘date’. They would then be captured, taken to an apartment or a woodland, where they would be bullied, tortured and humiliated while being recorded on video.
,,,
The group, started by Maxim Martsinkevich, led to many copycat groups across Russia. They claim they are simply trying to ‘identify and report pedophiles’. Martsinkevich is currently in jail for ‘hooliganism’.

This pastor is trying to boycott literally every company that accepts gay people · PinkNews

He said: “I want to call for a national boycott against sodomy in America.

“What we need to come to terms with, and God has shown me this, is that the Sodomites with a Sodmite in the White House, think they now have America under their absolute control.”

“But Almighty God has revealed to me that we are in a mega majority, those of us who are Bible believers. I want to call for a boycott, and here’s the level at which the boycott should be understood.

“If you know of a business that is owned by Sodomites, for instance Tylenol… we’re not going to buy Tylenol anymore.

“There are many others, General Millsand many other organisations that will out themselves as being sodomite friendly. We need to understand that we can boycott them.”

Unfortunately, Mr Manning uploaded his video to YouTube, which is owned by Google – one of the 379 firms who signed a Supreme Court employers’ brief earlier this year, calling for equal marriage.

UPDATED::ISIS throw 4 more gay men to their deaths - Gay Star News

UPDATE::  According to a report from the Advocate via ARA News on the incident in Mosul:
A civil rights activist in the region told ARA News the judgment of who is gay is based on “superficial information without any investigation.”

The pretext in the Mosul execution, reports ARA, is that the men were determined to be a gay couple. Daesh, or ISIS, interprets the Koran as forbidding homosexuality, a widely held belief in the Muslim world. The Human Rights Campaign notes, however, that “because Islam has no central governing body, it is not possible to state clear policies regarding issues of interest to LGBT people. Depending on nationality, generation, family upbringing, and cultural influences, Islamic individuals and institutions fall along a wide spectrum, from welcoming and inclusive to a level of rejection that can be marked by a range of actions ranging from social sequestration to physical violence.”
The ISIS-linked Sharia Court had issued a decision to execute every gay man by throwing him from the top of a building.

The extremist group has executed dozens of allegedly gay men in its areas of control in Syria and Iraq in the recent months.

“Daesh accuses people of being gay only on basis of some superficial information without any investigation. Although the Islamic law bans homosexuality, but the brutal punishment by Daesh has never been witnessed throughout history,” civil rights activist Raed Ahmed told ARA News.
 From Towleroad concerning Nineveh,
Meanwhile, Twitter account “Terrormonitor.org” tweeted graphic pictures of the executions that reportedly took place in Nineveh.
The reports from Aria and Terrormonitor.org have not yet been independently verified, and human rights groups have yet to weigh in. ISIS does, however, have a history of hurling men they suspect to be gay from buildings as a means of execution. Gay refugees fleeing ISIS-held territory have also spoken out of the brutal and grave conditions they faced living under the Islamic State’s draconian rule.
_____

Islamic State (ISIS) militants executed four more gay men in Iraq over the weekend.

Two young men were thrown off the roof a building in Mosul under the pretext they were a gay couple.

‘On Sunday afternoon, Daesh called on the people of Mosul to gather in the square of Bab al-Toub in order to witness the execution of the two allegedly men,’ an eyewitness told ARA News.

‘The victims were taken to the top of a building and were brutally thrown off the roof.’

Also on Sunday, the Terror Monitor group tweeted photos of a separate execution of two ‘gay’ men, who were thrown from a building in Ninevah into a pile of cement blocks.
