Conversion therapy crusader comes out as gay, pledges restitution for harm caused - New York Daily News

The founder of a conversion therapy ministry has come out as gay.

Not only that, but he now says conversion therapy — an attempt to “cure” people of homosexuality — is destructive.

“Conversion therapy is not just a lie, but it’s very harmful,” McKrae Game, who started Hope for Wholeness, told The Post and Courier. “Because it’s false advertising.”

Game, who led the faith-based conversion therapy program for two decades, spoke to the Post and Courier last week. It is supported by no science whatsoever.

TWO Outs ‘Ex-Gay’ Therapist Who Claims to Cure Gays, Yet Solicits Sex on Manhunt, a Gay Dating App | Truth Wins Out

Norman Goldwasser, by day, is an Orthodox Jewish therapist at Horizon Psychological Services who compares homosexuality to Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and misleads clients by claiming that their sexual orientation can be changed with his special brand of quack therapy, which is rejected by every respected medical and mental health association. By night, an undercover investigation by Truth Wins Out has found, he solicits sexual partners on Manhunt, a gay dating App, using the profile “Hotnhairy72.” During our operation, Goldwasser, going by the pseudonym “Dave”, offered to meet for sex with our operative, “Brandon,” at a Fort Lauderdale motel room. Goldwasser also had a profile on Bear Nation by the same name.

This latest scandal comes as the new movie Boy Erased (Starring Lucas Hedges, Nicole Kidman, and Russell Crowe) has brought a renewed spotlight to the issue of the harm caused by “ex-gay” programs.

“Norman Goldwasser’s double life of unconscionable lies highlights the rank hypocrisy and predatory nature of the fraudulent ‘ex-gay’ industry,” said Truth Wins Out Executive Director Wayne Besen. “We urge every state to ban the scourge of conversion therapy that attacks the mental health of LGBT youth and puts them in harms way.” Besen is the author of Anything Bust Straight: Unmasking the Scandals and Lies Behind the Ex-Gay Myth.

Gospel Singer Donnie McClurkin Accused Of Leading "Gay Cure Cult" | NewNowNext

Gospel singer Donnie McClurkin is being accused of running a gay conversion group, according to one of his purported victims.

After news of a Toronto psychiatrist having sex with a young male patient he was attempting to cure of homosexuality surfaced, a Twitter user accused McClurkin of being connected to Exodus International, an ex-gay organization that’s shuttered its U.S operations but continues overseas.

“In the ’90s Donnie McClurkin formed a religious gay cure cult,” wrote Achmat X in a series of tweets. “My mom naively enrolled me.”
,,,

McClurkin, a multiple Grammy winner with more than 10 million albums sold worldwide, claims to have been cured of homosexuality himself. He pinned his same-sex attractions on being molested by an uncle as a boy.

A YouTuber who claimed being vegan cured her cancer has died from cancer

A YouTuber who said that eating a raw vegan diet, drinking juice and praying to God cured her cancer has passed away.

Mari Lopez, one half of the vlogging duo Liz & Mari, succumbed to an aggressive terminal cancer that spread to her blood, liver and lungs.

She was known for posting viral videos about how she was able to cure her stage four diagnosis through faith in God and following a strict diet of raw vegetables.

Today in an interview with babe, Liz Johnson, who made videos with her aunt Mari, doubled down on her beliefs, saying she "completely" stood by what she posted.

,,,

Mari referred to how she was able to cure her cancer in 90 days by drinking juice. She said her renewed faith and diet even pushed her to renounce her lesbian sexuality.

"I was healed by God and faith and used to live a gay lifestyle," she explained in one video.

Confessions of a recovering lesbian | News | LifeSite

And BAM!! There it is.  Wham bam thank you mam,,,
I am a 37-year-old Catholic woman who has been happily married for nearly 15 years. We have five children that I homeschool. I also struggle daily with same-sex attraction.
,,,
I know some of you may be thinking, “What do you mean, you just ‘woke up’ one day and fell in love with a woman? Can that really happen??” Not really. There were many factors in both our pasts that made us vulnerable to same-sex attraction. Nora had been repeatedly molested by a male cousin as a child. I was abandoned by my birth mother and grew up being physically abused by my mentally-ill adoptive mother. For Nora, I was safe. For me, Nora offered the nurturing bond with a female I’d never had. Neither of us had had any guidance about sexuality other than “don’t get pregnant.” Nor did we have any faith in God, which made it easier to ignore our consciences when tempted to become involved.
,,,
Two years later, I met my husband, a man I felt all those things for and more. I went into marriage happy I’d finally achieved a “normal” life. Yet even then, same-sex attraction insidiously inserted itself. When I traveled out of town for work, I struggled not to go to lesbian bars. But I had promised fidelity and I had to honor that. I somehow knew if I cheated on my husband, I would be truly lost as a person. I thank God every day for helping me fight down those temptations.
And honey, you understand nothing!!  Why are you "studying John Paul II?
I am happy to say that the battle today is easier than in the early years of marriage. I remain faithful to God and my husband because I work hard to avoid near occasions of sin. For instance, I avoid deeply emotional friendships with women that eclipse the one with my husband. I don’t watch gay- and lesbian-themed movies. I also have trained my imagination to avoid impure fantasies. It can be tempting to fall into old thought patterns, especially if I’m tired. But if necessary, I’ll shut down physically and emotionally to avoid offending God. No fleeting sensual pleasure is worth offending Jesus, who suffered so much to save me.
Sounds like such a pleasant life, doesn't it, fixing something that isn't broken?

Gay man was forced to have 'conversion therapy' for FIVE YEARS to turn him straight | Daily Mail Online

'It was extremely difficult to come home from school and not talk to them. The word uncomfortable doesn't even describe it.'

Mr Shurka, who is currently single, said: 'The therapists tried to teach me that there was no such thing as homosexuality and that it was a psychological condition that's routed from some sort of childhood trauma.

'One of the psychotherapists I saw believed we are born innately heterosexual, but a childhood trauma we have been holding on to can become sexualised, or that your feelings are a response to that trauma.

'He said the trauma can be something really subtle or something dramatic.

'Therefore, it's believed you have to heal this trauma through therapy and the attraction for the opposite sex will return because it's "natural".

'They believed that, through therapy, you could 'work on it.'

Finish the Job: Ban Conversion Therapy for Minors | Advocate.com

When I founded Truth Wins Out in 2006, the myth that one could “pray away the gay” was a central part of the Religious Right’s strategy to demonize and legislate against LGBT people. In less than a decade, this elaborate hoax is in ruins — with only hard-core dead-enders peddling this manufactured lie.

In 2006 my organization was battling Focus on the Family’s Love Won Out program, which was a traveling road show that featured “ex-gay” activists. This program dissolved years ago after it stopped making money and attendance dwindled. We were also at war with Exodus International, which is now defunct after the group’s leader admitted that conversion therapy does not work and that 99.9 percent of clients were not changing their sexual orientation.

I am still in periodic contact with the “ex-gay” antagonists of yesteryear. Usually it is in the form of randomly stumbling upon their Facebook posts. One former “ex-gay” leader writes about how he is in love with the man he married. Another emotes on the joy he had when he came out to his son and found acceptance. Yet another posts on his journey coming out of the closet and his entrance into the world of dating.

The “ex-gay” industry is a shambles — albeit one that has left a trail of blood, pain, tragedy, and tears. No serious person promotes this charade — and those who do are viewed as as backward and delusional. The future is bleak for practitioners of this psychological voodoo.

One Ex-Lesbian's Plea to Pastors Across America — Charisma News

So the ex-gay community has another new face, Linda Italiano, who claims a meeting with a pastor changed her sexuality after 30 years as an out gay woman.  What is not mentioned in her Charisma magazine piece, one of the main purveyors of this crap, is that this individual comes from a background of self loathing and the need for acceptance.
It wasn’t always like this. I didn’t always enjoy a life full of quality friends, days spent productively, and a real understanding of why I am on this earth. No, just a few short years ago I stayed mostly in the house and isolated myself. I was afraid to live and afraid to die. Allow me to back up and fill you in as to what led to this amazing transformation in my life.
,,,
Thankfully, I was wrong about all of this. I requested a meeting with the pastor where I told her everything and I was met with love and respect. I was also shown exactly what the Bible says about homosexuality and it was made clear to me that it was unacceptable and wrong. [I would love to know exactly what the pastor showed her about homosex, since it is not in the Bible.]* I came away from that meeting still feeling welcome and accepted in the church, but understanding that homosexuality is a sin like any other sin. I understood that the Word of God is more important than anything else, and He is the answer to all of my problems. It did not take very long before I was completely delivered from the homosexual lifestyle and I totally renounced it. God did for me what I had been unwilling or unable to do for myself.
Self-reported alcoholism, or as I like to call it - self-medication,
In 1980, the drinking age was eighteen, much to my detriment. It had become increasingly difficult for me to spend time at home because my mother was taking out all of her unhappiness and hurt on me. I had become her target for all that was lost in our family. I began to spend much of my time in bars. I drank to excess from the start and I quickly became an alcoholic. I also met a woman who introduced me to lesbianism. I chose this lifestyle for thirty years or so until I became a Christian in 2014.  [Notice the seduction by another women, ie. lack of personal responsibility.]

Drinking for me was like a job. I lived in fear of withdrawal and tried unsuccessfully to walk that line between maintenance drinking and blackout drinking. Blackout always won. This lasted until the age of thirty-three when I finally stopped drinking.
All wrapped up in a history of a traumatic, dysfunctional family life.
In 1980, a month before I turned eighteen, my older brother was killed in a car accident. This was the event that changed everything for me. I went from a stable person with goals and dreams to an angry, hopeless, directionless person. My family started growing apart immediately after the accident as we each dealt with the loss separately. This began many years of victim mentality thinking, which hindered me in a big way as it colored all of my decisions going forward.
If the formula sounds familiar it should. It is the same story used by recent right-wing, anti-gay poster children Linda Wall and Katy Faust.
  • dysfunctional family life due to traumatic event
  • development of self-loathing:  lack of self-worth, a reliance on "others" for perception of self or acceptance
  • self-medication:  drugs or alcohol
  • seduction by another:  lack of personal responsiblity
  • a "god" fixes everything, at the flip-of-a-switch "I'm" healed
Not that it would have mattered much to the readership of Charisma, but her full story needs to be examined.  Italiano is in need of a therapist, not a minister.  As I said in regards to Katy Faust, "Having the personal, private belief that same-sex relationships are not Biblical may not be hateful per se (wrong IMO); it is her belief.  BUT, traipsing around the world spitting rhetoric that is not even your own,,, is vile; it is hurtful. Being loud about it, so that the whole world can hear you, is being hateful."

One Ex-Lesbian's Plea to Pastors Across America — Charisma News

*Just like with Linda Wall I would like to ask Italiano if she and her pastor delved into the complexities of the following:
  • 1 Corinthians 6:9 and 1 Timothy 1:10 (arsenokoitai and malakoi)
  • Genesis 1:26-28; 2:18-25, Matthew 19:3-12, Romans 1:26-27 (male/female, sexual/gender complementarity)
  • Leviticus 18:22 and Leviticus 20:13 (toevah)
  • The sins of Sodom and Gibeah (Genesis 19/Judges 19)
  • Also have you studied the socio-cultural norms of cultic temple prostitution (OT-Ashteroth /NT-Cybele)
You see, even after 30 years of "study", I still don't think I have all the answers.

Conservative MO lawmaker says child abuse made him gay — for 5 years

I am struggling mightily with this story.  I abhor the trauma he suffered as a child and applaud his candor but his "ex-gay" claims,,,. You are either gay or your not, to equate sexual dysfunction stemming from abuse, to homosexuality is plain wrong.  As he readily admits, he was "confused".  But the suggestion that gay people are suffering from confusion from childhood molestation is not only a myth, but highly offensive to the LGBT community, a majority of whom have never been molested.

In the end this is one story that exemplifies why politics can be a dirty game and I loathe any opponent he may face that attempts to throw this life experience in his face.  But then again, is Dixon working the system for the "cry-me-a-river" vote?

Regretfully it appears that both he and his mother - her son’s homosexuality caused her great distress and,,, - are regurgitating one of the many myths of the religious right, that one can "pray away the gay".  Sexual orientation is not set by childhood abuse and to seek solace in the arms of abusive, repressive doctrine is sad.
The campaign for governor hopeful Sen. Bob Dixon issued a statement regarding “teenage confusion” that Dixon’s mother says led him to live as a homosexual for five years.

Dixon, who stressed his conservative values in announcing his candidacy for governor last week, said he was the victim of abuse as a child, and this abuse led to the confusion he felt about his sexuality as a teenager, according to a press release from his campaign.

“I have put the childhood abuse, and the teenage confusion behind me,” said Dixon, R-Springfield, who has a wife and three children. “What others intended for harm has resulted in untold good. I have overcome, and will not allow evil to win.”
Conservative MO lawmaker says child abuse made him gay — for 5 years

Updated to add:

Who wouldn't convert with a mother such as this:
Dixon said her son attempted suicide prior to his gay conversion, while admitting that — for her — it was difficult to accept his homosexual lifestyle.

“It had been a heartache I had to deal with, and it was a tough one,” Jean Dixon explained.

Pat Robertson: Gays Can Become Straight If They 'Start Acting Like Men' | Right Wing Watch

He just doesn't get it,,,
Pat Robertson, a big fan of ex-gay pseudo-therapy, fielded a question from a “700 Club” viewer today who asked if God could “take away this same-sex attraction” and “change a homosexual to straight.”

Confusing sexual orientation with gender identity, Robertson said that his network once profiled the transformation of an “absolutely gorgeous” woman who “was a man” until “the Lord touched him, changed him and now he is marrying and has some children and has a very happy life.”

“It is a miracle but God can do it,” he said. “It is a tendency in your life.”

Meet the Last 'Respectable' Reparative Therapist | The Bilerico Project

At this stage in the debate, you would think that reparative therapy would be dead as a kipper on a cracker.

It has been denounced by all the major psychological, psychiatric, and medical organizations in the U.S. California, New Jersey, and Washington, D.C. have passed laws forbidding its use on minors, and they have held up in court. Exodus international has folded, and the "ex-gay" movement is a pathetic and little-noticed side show.

However, there's one Ph.D.-level psychologist out there pushing a brand of reparative therapy that skirts the ethical guidelines of all the professional organizations that have come out against it. He is still cited as an "expert" in the media, and especially by those with an anti-LGBT ideology.

It would be easy to dismiss this person if he were some crackpot that no one listened to or was poorly regarded by his peers. Unfortunately, he isn't. In fact, he's one of the most influential psychologists in the field.

Meet Dr. Kenneth Zucker. He's a professor at the University of Toronto; editor-in-chief of Archives of Sexual Behavior for the last 12 years; a member of the American Psychological Association Task Force on Gender Identity, Gender Variance, and Intersex Conditions; and chairman of the American Psychiatric Association working group on "Sexual and Gender Identity Disorders" for the 2013 edition of the DSM-5.

He's also one of the leading proponents of a school of thought which describes the vast majority children who exhibit gender non-conforming behaviors as just juvenile gay men and lesbians who need to be prevented from growing up to be transgender. He even hints to their parents his methods might prevent them from being gay, too.

The treatment these children receive should be familiar; it is nearly indistinguishable from the methods used by George "Rent Boy" Rekers in the 1970's.

[,,,]
Someone might wonder how Dr. Zucker escapes the label of sexual orientation change effort (SOCE) with his "Drop the doll!" methodologies, when his techniques and goals seem so similar. There is one semantic difference: Zucker does not claim to be trying to make gender non-conforming kids straight, he just claims to make them straight-acting. Somehow this nuance has mostly inured him from mainstream criticism.

image: http://cdn.bilerico.net/assets_c/2015/01/blue-pink-baby-shoes-thumb-250xauto-41627.jpg
blue-pink-baby-shoes.jpgIt hasn't gone completely unnoticed, though: a 2003 report in the Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry called his techniques "something disturbingly close to reparative therapy for homosexuals."

Dr. Zucker attributes gender non-conformance (what he calls "pre-homosexuality") to the same things "ex-gay" activists say cause homosexuality:
"[Zucker] urges parents to steer their children toward gender-typical toys, clothes and playmates and advises them to prohibit behaviors associated with the other sex. Zucker's academic articles assert that while biology may predispose some children to gender nonconformity, other factors -- like trauma and emotional disorders -- often play a role. Other contributing causes he cites include overprotective mothers, emotionally absent fathers or mothers who are hostile toward men." [Emphasis in original.]

UPDATED (all three have dropped out): Fox News anchor, Coors exec, 'Forrest Gump' actor headline summit of anti-gay Catholic org. - Good As You:: Gay and Lesbian Activism With a Sense of Humor

It started innocently enough. Of all people,Gary Sinise? But before I could finish my background search concerning Legatus or get too pissed off, Sinise had already withdrawn:
For me, faith has been a catalyst for my mission to honor the men and women who serve in our nation’s military. When I accepted the invitation to speak at the Legatus conference on Veterans issues and share my story, I was unaware of the controversy surrounding some of the participants, and their views on personal matters. I don’t want my mission—which is designed to be unifying—to be disrupted by these, or any controversies, and therefore have decided to withdraw.
Then yesterday, Brett Baier withdrew:
“Bret Baier has withdrawn his participation as a speaker at the upcoming Legatus Summit due to the controversy surrounding some editorial stances in the organization’s magazine,” a Fox News spokesperson said in a statement to TVNewser. “Bret accepted the invitation to speak about his book, his faith, and his son’s congenital heart disease. He was unaware of these articles or the controversy surrounding them.”
And now it seems, according to Joe.My.God., Peter Coors has dropped out as well.

Still planning on attending, Gov. Jindal of Louisianna, no shock there.

ADDENDUM::Lawmaker responds to anti-gay billboard with bill to ban ‘ex-gay’ therapy for minors – LGBTQ Nation

A Virginia state lawmaker says he will bring a bill before the 2015 General Assembly aimed at banning gay-to-straight conversion therapy on LGBT youth.

The announcement by Del. Patrick Hope (D-Arlington County) comes just days after a controversial billboard was erected along a Richmond interstate by a group that supports the practice.

“There’s is no on/off switch for sexual orientation, and putting this bill in is necessary to send that message,” said Hope.

The bill would prohibit licensed healthcare professionals from performing the controversial therapy (also referred to as “reparative therapy) on minors.

Hope says “ex-gay,” or conversion therapy, is based on the false assumption being gay is a mental disorder.

Proponents of the treatment argue that bans limit freedom of speech, and infringes on the rights of parents to treat their children as they see fit.

But Hope, and the medical community, disagrees.

How the Church Can Respond to the Gay Agenda

"You see, I struggled with homosexual feelings and identity from childhood into my adult life."

First of all Anne, it is not a "feeling" it is core to who you are as a person. By denying self, you are depriving those that you claim to "love" honesty, loyalty and integrity. You are in essence lying about who you are.

"Yet women and men are still leaving homosexuality and finding freedom in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ."

You obviously haven't been following the headlines of late. Hell your own, now ex-husband, leads the pack in those who have dumped the ex-gay canard: Yvette Schneider, Tim Rymel, John Smid and most recent Christian Schizzel.

And lest we forget this debacle:
"Rios confidently predicted that “thousands of ex-gays are descending” on Washington for a press conference planned for today at the Supreme Court. She lamented that when she led Concerned Women for America the media refused to hear “our ex-gay friends” because it “undermined the whole effort of the homosexual lobby.”
Less than ten people showed up!

Or what about this:
Nine former ex-gay leaders, from organizations like Exodus International and ministries like Love in Action, have signed onto a letter in partnership with the National Center for Lesbian Rights calling for a ban on gay conversion therapy and saying that LGBT people should be celebrated and embraced for who they are.

“At one time, we were not only deeply involved in these ‘ex-gay’ programs, we were the founders, the leaders, and the promoters,” they said in the letter. “Together we represent more than half a century of experience, so few people are more knowledgeable about the ineffectiveness and harm of conversion therapy. We know first-hand the terrible emotional and spiritual damage it can cause, especially for LGBT youth.”
The names on the list included: Bill Prickett, Brad Allen, Catherine Chapman, Darlene Bogle, Jeremy Marks, John Smid, Michael Bussee, Tim Rymel and Yvette Cantu Schneider.

Leaving homosexuality? More like having it "beat" out of them. Hell even Russell Moore says reparative therapy is bunk.

Anne, keep your delusions to yourself before you seriously hurt someone.  Oh wait, you have.  You and people like Peter LaBarbera

God Said It, That Settles It: No Common Ground for Christianity and Homosexuality - BarbWire.com

There is just so much wrong with this statement, besides sounding like a petulant child, I wouldn't call five minutes in a bookstore research.
I knew this was a defining moment in my life. If I dared to look up those references I would then be accountable. Was I sinning against Him? Was I bound for hell? I really wanted to know if homosexuality was wrong from God’s perspective. So I reached for a Bible and quietly removed the cellophane wrap and began looking up the verses.

When I finished my research, there was nowhere to hide anymore. God had said homosexuality was wrong and that settled it!
You see God also "said" that slavery was good thing, as well as the subjugation of women. Get my point.

But in all seriousness, I have a question for Wall. In your five minutes of research I assume you were able to delve into the complexities of the following:
  • 1 Corinthians 6:9 and 1 Timothy 1:10 (arsenokoitai and malakoi)
  • Genesis 1:26-28; 2:18-25, Matthew 19:3-12, Romans 1:26-27 (male/female, sexual/gender complementarity)
  • Leviticus 18:22 and Leviticus 20:13 (toevah)
  • The sins of Sodom and Gibeah (Genesis 19/Judges 19
  • Also have you studied the socio-cultural norms of cultic temple prostitution (OT-Ashteroth /NT-Cybele)?

To do the crazy news or the other crazy news first,,,

It was voted on and the "other" crazy news won by a tally of 1-0.  So on to some bizarre headlines and the stories that go with them.

Former Gay Activist Says Homosexuality Is Addictive ‘As A Drug'

I am counting down the days till she comes out of the closet (again).  The money is too good for that to happen at the moment.
Linda Wall used to be gay, an activist for LGBT rights, even. And, as do most converts, she is attacking her former way of life. She says she was “seduced” and was instantly addicted to “teh gay.” Because “teh gay” is “like a drug.”

Appearing on Mission America, hosted by Linda Harvey, Wall spoke about her new group called Virginia Mass Resistance. Anti-gay? Check. Fundamentalist? Check. Promoting lies about teh gay? Oh, yeah.

According to Wall, she was in college when teh gay took her in. It seems that a temptress went to work on this poor rural Virginian and, before she knew it, she was gay! A little wine, a little pot and voila!… a lesbian! She admits that she had been intrigued by lesbianism and decided to explore it. But, horror of horrors, she was addicted to it that very night:
Penn. coroner auctioning firearms from suicides: People pay more for ‘guns that took a life’

This is why some of us call PA,  Pennsyltucky.  I have lived here 16 years, and this is the first time I have ever heard of such a thing, though doesn't mean much,,,
A Pennsylvania coroner said this week that the state’s law required him to auction off guns that were used in suicides and other accidental violent deaths, even though his county has not held a similar auction in 30 years.

Westmoreland County Coroner Ken Bacha told WTAE that his office planned to sell 97 guns during the Nov. 8 auction. He said that families of the deceased are given one year to claim the weapons, and then Pennsylvania law required them to be sold.

And Bacha said that the violent history of the guns could actually inflate their value.

“Most of these firearms that are going to be auctioned were non-homicide firearms,” he explained. “In other words, accidental deaths, but most of them were suicides.”
I'll just leave this here and let y'all decide,,,

Blood-Chilling U.N. Document Exposed: Report Surfaces Today Claiming if Something Isn’t done Now about Climate Change Things Will be Irreversible Tomorrow and Their Real Agenda is Worse Then You Thought…

The truth is our government has an agenda and often times they try to trick us into agreeing with whatever their own purposes happen to be. Be it that they want to drive us into World War III or some other devious agenda; they have a goal.

That being said we must pay attention to one of the biggest lies they are pushing today and that is the lie of Global Warming/Global Cooling/Climate Change (that should scream fraud all on its own but sadly many still believe it). In the 2014 IPCC Climate Change Synthesis Report— released Sunday— I discovered some staggering information that could be life-changing in our near future. Especially considering the warning the United Nations posted today that “if something isn’t done soon about Global Warming, then it will be Irreversible.”
Mystery Of Human Skulls At Stamford Transfer Station Solved
The two human skulls found Thursday at the Stamford refuse transfer station came from the Fairfield County home of a man who apparently was into the occult and who died recently, according to one of the men who cleaned out the man's house.

Two human skulls and thousands of magazines, books and videos on Satan, witchcraft and the occult were discovered Thursday afternoon at the city's refuse transfer station.

The skulls — tossed out by the cleaning crew who thought they weren't real — prompted a call to police, who swarmed the transfer station to investigate.

What About Ex-Ex-Gays?

Here is what I do onot "get."  Every day there is some religionists spouting off on how bad it is to a "homo, homo-sexual."  That "we" need to be rounded up in some fashion.  But yet when some big-wig preacher man screws up, the canard is "must pray for our fallen brethren and restore him to his money making glory." As "mild" as Brown's diatribe is, he is still lending words of condemnation against a segment of humanity that is then twisted by his flock.  His silence in not rebuking the hatred spewed by his "brethren" speak much louder than the crap written here, his hypocrisy is deafening.
Do these significant failures demonstrate that change in sexual orientation is impossible? Certainly not.

First, for every well-known ex-ex-gay, there are 10 or 100 or 1,000 unknown ex-gays—meaning people who formerly lived as homosexuals but no longer do. Only God knows their numbers, but I run into them all the time, often smiling broadly as they share their stories with me after hearing me speak at a meeting.
,,,
Second, the term "ex-gay" has lots of different meanings (some leaders like the term, while others don't), ranging from, "I used to be involved in same-sex relationships, and I am no longer am," to, "My romantic and sexual desires have changed from homosexual to heterosexual," along with everything in between.
,,,
Third, there are often other factors involved in a person's failure to change, and it would be wrong to make generalizations based on their personal stories, even if they have much in common.
,,,
Fourth, plenty of people are not happy living as homosexuals, be it because of their spiritual convictions or because of relational or health issues. (For a recent documentary sharing powerful testimonies, see For Such Were Some of You.)
,,,
Fifth, we need to emphasize holiness more than heterosexuality. As one former lesbian remarked, "God never said, 'Be thou heterosexual for I the Lord thy God am heterosexual,' but rather, 'Be thou holy for I the Lord thy God am holy.'"
,,,
Sixth, human nature is frail and homosexual attractions are often very deeply rooted, to the point that people believe they were actually born gay.

FRC Blog » Robin Williams, Rehab, and Reorientation

There is just so much wrong with this I dont even know where to start,,,
"Then just last month, news broke that Williams had again returned to rehab, this time at a Hazelden center in Minnesota. A spokesman for Williams said that he had not relapsed into substance abuse, but was “simply taking the opportunity to fine-tune and focus on his continued commitment [to sobriety], of which he remains extremely proud.” That was on July 1 — but six weeks later, he was dead."
First Sprigg, in a backhanded way, is stating the Williams' death is due to his return to drug/alcohol rehab; a mental health service that is for the most part a generally accepted (by consensus) form of treatment. He then continues to equate rehab to reparative therapy. Notice his choice of words, "sexual orientation change efforts."
"In light of this history, I have only one question for socially liberal political activists — why aren’t you trying to outlaw rehab?

"I ask the question because such activists are trying to ban a form of mental health treatment — not drug and alcohol rehabilitation, but “sexual orientation change efforts” (“SOCE”), also known as “sexual reorientation therapy.” Such therapy involves assisting people with unwanted same-sex attractions to overcome them."
What Spriggs leaves out, homosexuality has not been consider a mental disorder since 1973; and, reparative therapy as a whole has been debunked. (Seriously, do not even think for a moment that the Regnerus study lends any credibility to the FRC's stance.) Not only by ex ex-gay bigwigs but as Anderson Cooper points out in  his response to the Texas GOP's adoption of support for reparative therapy.
“It’s really just not accurate to say that doctors are evenly divided,” Cooper told state Rep. Bryan Hughes (R). “I could give you a list: the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Counseling Association, the American Psychiatric Association, the American Psychological Association, the American School Counselors’ Association, the National Association of School Psychologists, National Association of Social Workers. They represent half a million mental health professionals, [and] they all say this is not a mental disorder. It’s not something that needs to be cured.”
Personally I think Spriggs is a pissed off little man because their golden girl of the movement, Yvette Cantu Schneider told FRC to go fuck off

My snark aside, J. Bryan Lowder over at Slate sums up the reality of what Spriggs misses:
"The reason addicts seek or are referred to rehab for substance abuse is because addiction is clearly inhibiting their ability to live their lives. Meanwhile, the only thing inhibiting gay people from living openly and happily is people like Sprigg, people who suggest that homosexuality is anything other than a natural, perfectly healthy variation of human sexual expression. When critics of ex-gay therapy—including the large majority of the medical establishment—advocate for its elimination, it is not because we, as Sprigg puts it, are “holding such therapies to a standard of ‘effectiveness’ and ‘safety’ that is impossible for any mental health treatment to meet.” Rather, it is because we recognize that being gay is not a mental health issue in the first place.
This isn't the FRC stooping low, this is the FRC standing proud. This is what they are, and they're proud of it.

'Ex-Gay' Activist Claims Schools Teach Kids That 'Gay Sex is Wonderful' | Right Wing Watch

The ex-gay activists have definitely been busy this week,,,
Foster warned that young people are especially vulnerable because “Satan is in their little minds, planting all sorts of doubts and fears,” adding that messages of LGBT acceptance in school curriculum prey on children from a young age.

Discussing the manipulation he is convinced drives the so-called gay agenda, he exclaimed, “All these gay activists are teaching [children] in elementary schools and junior high schools that gay sex is wonderful, and here’s how you do it; here’s how you do the most perverse thing done by gay people, right in our schools. It’s child abuse as far as I’m concerned.”

The 'Ex-Gay' Movement's Dangerous New Myths | The Bilerico Project

In the past few years, as the "ex-gay" movement has sputtered and died, many within that movement -- and some of their religiously conservative supporters -- have begun pushing some ideas to get lesbians and gays to stop having sex. Or more specifically, get lesbians and gays to stop having, well, gay sex.

Matt Moore, who was part of the "ex-gay" movement (and then got caught with a Grindr account), has stopped saying that gays can be cured... except if God makes it happen. Somehow. He occasionally writes for the virulently anti-LGBT website Barbwire.com, run by hate group leader Matt Barber. Mr. Moore is now pushing the "celibate gay" narrative.

He isn't the only one: institutions like the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormons) have tried to soften their image by changing their stance on "same-sex attraction": it may not be "curable," they now say, but lesbians and gays are welcome to join if they stay celibate or marry members of the opposite sex.

Not only are these narratives completely impractical, they are incredibly damaging on so many levels.

[,,,]
In one of Mr. Moore's most recent articles, he used the word "sin" no less than 22 times in 924 words. That works out to once every other sentence or so. Obsessing over how nasty, wicked, disgusting, and abominable you are can't be healthy. Trust me: been there, done that, got the refrigerator magnet at the end of therapy. If you feel like you have to choose between being Christian and being gay, you don't -- there are plenty of Christian denominations that accept gay people, celibate or not.
