According to Al Jazeera, https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2022/3/11/saudi-blogger-raif-badawi-released-from-prison “A Saudi security official also confirmed that Badawi was no longer in prison, and said that he had been “released today”. That is as of March 11, 2022.

One point that must be kept in mind, Raif's sentencing also included a 10-year travel ban as well as a 10 year social media ban. It is with great hope my next mention of Raif will will be his departure from Saudi and stepping into the embrace of his wife and 3 kids.

As I noted in episode 3 (2/27/22), the Florida House passed the Parental Rights in Education bill. https://time.com/6155905/florida-dont-say-gay-passed/ What critics are calling, once one gets passed the headlines, the “Don't Say Gay” bill has now passed the Florida Senate and is awaiting DeSantis' signature.

What is concerning, the broad wording of the law could open the door for lawsuits about instruction provided in grade levels higher than the third grade.

“Let us be clear: should the vague language of this bill be interpreted in any way that causes harm to a single child, teacher, or family, we will lead legal action against the State of Florida to challenge this bigoted legislation,” tweeted the LGBTQ advoacy group Equality Florida on Tuesday.

Constitutionally teachers have little to rely on, students OTOH have the 1969 Tinker v. Des Moines Independent Community School. The Supreme Court held that schools could not shut down student speech without passing the "substantial disruption" test.

Texas and Florida are in a race to the bottom regarding LGBT+ issues and the treatment of kids in public schools. Sadly 7 other states will be joining them shortly.

It's hard to believe that 6 1/2-7 yrs on, I am STILL freaking writing about this case. But it has taken a federal judge this long to rule that the former Rowan County Clerk violated the constitutional rights of two same-sex couples when she denied them marriage licenses during the summer of 2015. The judge David L. Bunning granted summary judgment in a civil lawsuit that the two couples, David Ermold and David Moore, and James Yates and Will Smith, filed against Davis.

No decision has been made yet on whether Davis will be on the hook for the legal fees accrued over the six-and-a-half years of litigation.

Ya know that whole underwear changing thing I was talking about with Trump?  If this is this man's "advisors" I would hate to see who he considers the "enemy" so to speak.

According to Bachmann, the September 11 attacks represented God’s judgment on America; President Obama and gay rights advocates are bringing about the End Times; homosexuality is “personal enslavement” and “part of Satan”; gay people want to change laws “so that adults will be able to freely prey on little children sexually”; and Obamacare death panels will literally kill people any day now.

Texas-based televangelist Kenneth Copeland is also on the advisory board even though God told him that Ted Cruz would be the next president. Like Trump, Copeland has been implicated in financial scandals and preaches against vaccines, which may have been a reason that one of his churches suffered a measles outbreak.

Dobson, who once said that he could not support Trump, has a long history with the anti-LGBT Right, warning that gay marriage will lead to a second civil war and pastors going to prison, as well as ushering in the destruction of religious freedom, God’s judgment on America and the transformation of the U.S. into Nazi Germany. He even linked same-sex marriage to the Sandy Hook shooting.

It's like a Whose Who list of anti gay hate.  Only ones missing are Scott Lively, Rick Warren, and Peter LaBarbera.

On Saturday, Newsweek ran a great expose on the Ark Encounter and the employment discrimination that led to the park losing its $18 million tax incentive.

Because AiG posted Ark Encounter job listings on its website requiring a “salvation testimony” and a creationist statement of faith. Bob Stewart, then-secretary of the Kentucky Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet, wrote in a letter to AiG: “The Commonwealth doesn’t believe that Ark Encounter, LLC will be complying with state and Federal law in its hiring practices.” AiG insisted that the job posts were not exclusive to Ark Encounter, but state officials remained unconvinced. After months of pleading with the tourism cabinet, AiG filed a lawsuit against Kentucky officials, asserting that the refusal to extend tax aid was a form of religious discrimination.

Where In The World, What In The World, Is Kent Hovind's "January Surprise"! -Guest Post By Robert Baty


 Two points stand out:

1]   Officially, Kent is not allowed contact with Paul because they are both convicted felons and under supervision of United States Government while they finish out their sentences.

Unofficially, it appears Kent may be violating the rules by using agents to communicate with and coordinate certain activities with Paul who appears to be continuing to promote the notion that he is going to be holding common law court in Pensacola to redress his grievance and maybe Kent's as well (kinda like the Oregon occupiers are trying to do).

All of that effort might have garnered more attention were it not for the fact that the Oregon "stand-off" is taking the spotlight on behalf of the militia/sovereign citizen promoters like Kent and Paul and so many of their followers.

2]   From what I observe, Kent keeps his real self rather well hidden from the outside world.  What I see are his public performances which appear to me to be very well crafted to maximize his monetization of his renewed efforts to raise money for what he wants to do.  It seems to be working out rather well for him for the time being and as he begins 3 years of Supervised Release.

In my opinion, if Kent really didn't care about being a convicted felon for the rest of life and never again being able to buy guns and use them which he was so fond of doing, he would let it go for he has no good reason for doing what he is supposedly doing to supposedly try to get his 2006 convictions overturned, structuring law repealed, and collect millions in damages for false imprisonment.

Kent, to me, seems a bitter man who has pledged the rest of his life to pay back the Government for daring to call him to account for a few of his crimes and to keep from paying what he owes.

Markell then proceeded to read the words of Christian Zionist activist Jim Hutchens: “What has not been noted is the fact that our narcissistic, self-absorbed president has prematurely achieved his demonic obsession for a legacy. He will be known throughout eternity as the one who jump-started the process that produced the largest and most destructive nuclear holocaust of humanity, the slaughter of a third of mankind, over two and a third billion people. Unfortunately, that’s one of the least terrifying things the two shared with listeners. (And I’m not even talking about Bachmann’s boast that she personally encouraged President Obama to bomb Iran, or her lengthy explanation about why we should be bombing for peace.) Compare that to the conviction with which they see Biblical prophecy, as they interpret it, as informing current political happenings and the certainty that dropping bombs is exactly what we should be doing. Because God.

It’s kind of funny how the strong right arm of a holy God, the leader of heaven’s armies, needs Christians and AIPAC to work in concert on this. If the goal is to “prove to the world his power and his strength,” relying on human political activists (you know, the people who generally tend to effect political change) seems to defeat the purpose.

At any rate, if, for some reason, God’s mighty heavenly armies are unable to convince Obama to bomb Iran… Bachmann and Markell have great news. Okay, so it involves a nuclear holocaust, but, really, it’s great news. Because — you guessed it — God!

Leader of group cited in 'Dylann Roof manifesto' donated to top Republicans | US news | The Guardian

I am not interested for the momnt in the racist rhetoric of Dylan Roof or the fact that said politicians received monies - in the past - as peoples ideologies can and do change.  What is disconcerting is said individuals have received monies as recently as 2012 and beyond.

Holt has since 2012 contributed $8,500 to Cruz, the Texas senator running for the Republican presidential nomination, and his Jobs, Growth and Freedom Fund political action committee, according to Federal Election Commission (FEC) filings. On some filings Holt’s occupation was listed as “slumlord”.

He has also given $1,750 to RandPAC, the political action committee of Paul, the Kentucky senator and presidential contender, and he gave $2,000 to the 2012 presidential campaign of Mitt Romney.

A further $1,500 was donated by Holt to Santorum, the former Pennsylvania senator and 2012 Republican presidential primary runner-up, who is running for president again in the 2016 race and attended Sunday’s memorial service at Emanuel AME Church.

Holt has also distributed tens of thousands in campaign contributions among prominent Republicans in congress, such as Representative Steve King of Iowa ($2,000), Senator Tom Cotton of Arkansas ($1,500) and Senator Jeff Flake of Arizona ($1,000). Michele Bachmann Insists Obama And Gay Marriage Will Bring The Rapture (AUDIO/VIDEO) | If You Only News

What fascinates me about this particular "incident" besides the fact the President Obama had a we bit of fun at Bachmann's expense. The "idea" of a so-called Rapture is not biblical; not in the sense that Reich member Bachmann implies which IYON.C aptly notes:

For those not familiar with the Biblical story of the Rapture, it is the 1st part of the multi part saga that is their fantasy for the end of the world. There are various interpretations of the events within it but basically it comes down to Jesus returning and smiting his (or Michele’s) enemies. In short, it’s the Biblical version of “my dad can beat up your dad.”

And actually it’s not a story, per se. It’s more of an interpretation of verses from at least 4 different books of the Bible. Carefully lifted to create this narrative of Jesus’s return. Some people think that Jesus will be teleporting all the “good American Christians” while others contend Jesus will be walking around vaporizing all that doubted leaving a utopia of homogeneous perfect “Christians”  to play with Jesus forever and ever.

Interesting sidenote: This is one area where the evangelicals don’t mention the Jewish people, whom they normally look out for like an over protective older brother would his little sister. But it’s not because all the radical right wing “Christians” think the Jews will be killed in the Rapture.

As IYON.C notes the "Rapture" is based on interpretation.  The various interpretations have lead to various Rapture theologies - will the Rapture be pre-tribulation, mid-tribulation, or post-tribulation? Will it be a secret and silent removal of Christians or a glorious return of Jesus?  Does any of this really matter?

The fact that one man (John Darby) created an entire theology (Dispensationalism) based on one passage of scripture (1Thessolonians 4:16-17) seems to be completely lost on people.  Concidering nothing happened on the 10 previous Raptures dates, I am certain we are safe form Bachmann's prognostications as well:

• 1843, March 21st - William Miller predicted Christ would return on this then changed it to 1844, October 22nd
• 1981 - Chuck Smith in Future Survival, 1978
• 1988, September 11th-13th - Edgar C. Whisenant in 88 Reasons Why the Rapture Will Be in 1988, 1987
• 1989 - Edgar C. Whisenant in The Final Shout: Rapture Report 1989; Whisenant continued to predict the end of the world in 1992 and 1995, among other year
• 1992, October 28th - prediction from Korean group Mission for the Coming Days^.
• 1993 - multiple predictions put 1993 as the Rapture date as seven years before the millennium to allow for the seven years of Tribulation before the Second Coming in 2000
• 1994, June 9th - a prediction from Christ Church pastor John Hinkle
• 1994, September 6th - Harold Camping. 1994 was apparently not a good year for Rapture believers
• 2011, May 21st - Harold Camping after reviewing his botched former prediction
• 2011, October 21st - Harold Camping again.

“If the United States turns its back on Israel, as our president is doing today, in my opinion, we cannot continue to indulge in the fantasy that the United States will be free from receiving the negative blowback, or curses, in biblical parlance, that could come our way and they could be severe,” Bachmann said.

After Markell pointed to economic troubles, the California drought and “unprecedented snowstorms on the East Coast” as signs of such divide punishment, Bachmann told her that such occurrences “are only the threshold or down payment.”

“If we actually turn our back on Israel, as we are seeing Barack Obama do today, if that happens then I think we will see a scale and a level of pushback in the United States, negative consequences. I don’t know what they are, but I believe that the Bible is true and I believe that what the Bible says is that our nation and the people of our nation will reap a whirlwind,” Bachmann said. “We could see economic disasters, natural disasters. The United States does not want to be in that position and unfortunately the people put into office Barack Obama, not only once but twice, and the people have to rise up against his actions and demand their leaders take steps accordingly.”

Ted Cruz Proposes Bill To Strip 5th And 6th Amendment Out Of US Constitution

Cruz has proposed a new bill, the Expatriate Terrorist Act (Senate Bill 247), which strips away the rights of any American citizen who runs off to join or in support of any terrorist organization. It would immediately strip the citizenship of anyone in support of an organization that the United States deems a “terrorist organization.”

There is a problem here, however…

This is in violation of the US Constitution, which Cruz has often referred to himself as a fan and follower of. His bill, which was originally written by the ineffable jingoistic idiot Michelle Bachmann (who also happens to be a Dominionist) violates these particular Amendments:

Amendment V:

No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger;

Amendment VI:

In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defense.

Court orders Judge Judith Hawkins be removed from the bench

The Florida Supreme Court ordered the removal of Leon County Judge Judith Hawkins from the bench in a sharply worded order after she was found guilty of judicial-misconduct and several violations of the judicial code of conduct.

The order is not final until time expires to file a rehearing. Hawkins has 15 days to do so.

"We conclude that Judge Hawkins' conduct is fundamentally inconsistent with the responsibilities of judicial office, demonstrating present unfitness to hold office, and that removal is the only appropriate sanction," Supreme Court justices wrote in their 36-page opinion released Thursday. "Based on the violations found by the Hearing Panel, which were supported by clear and convincing evidence, we conclude removal from the bench is the only appropriate sanction in this case."

The Judicial Qualifying Commission, which investigates and prosecutes cases of alleged judicial misconduct and judicial code violations, in January recommended Hawkins be publicly reprimanded and suspended for 90 days and fined $17,000 after she was found guilty of using her office to promote her ministry Gaza Road Ministries. The Supreme Court however in June ordered her to show cause why she should not face the most severe penalty — removal from office.

The JQC charged Hawkins in December 2012 and added new charges in June 2013, all related to her side ministry business. The charges fell under five broad categories: use of her office to promote a private business, failure to respect and comply with the law, failure to act in a manner promoting public confidence in the judiciary, failure to devote full attention to judicial office and lack of candor with the JQC.

Birthers Hope GOP Congress Will Launch Obama Birth Certificate Probe

A columnist for the birther outlet WorldNetDaily wants conservatives to pressure Republican elected officials to initiate a probe into President Obama’s birth certificate if the GOP takes control of the U.S. Senate following the midterm elections.

Lord Christopher Monckton declares that once “the GOP commands both the Senate and the House,” conservatives should demand that they “find what in English we should call the cojones to do something about the birth certificate.”

“If the GOP wins the Senate, and even if it does not win the Senate, let it at last find the guts to do what it should have done long before now,” he writes. “Let it say yes to Sheriff Joe’s request that it should initiate a congressional investigation of this affair.”

Shit must be getting real for the Reich, "the" Michele Bachmann has spoken and we all know she only speaks the truth. Following the (erroneous) "gay manifesto" canard of Jody "I wanna be Paul Brown" Hice, Bachmann felt it necessary to add her futuristic view of American society if the LGBT community where actually to gain the status of human being.

The Minnesota Republican warned that the gay community will “abolish age of consent laws, which means we will do away with statutory rape laws so that adults will be able to freely prey on little children sexually. That’s the deviance that we’re seeing embraced in our culture today.”

She also predicted that gay rights advocates will legalize polygamy and enact “hate speech laws across the United States” in order to bring about “the rise of tyranny.”

“This is a revolution that we are encountering now,” she said of marriage equality. “For all of the thousands of years of recorded human history, about 5,000 years, there is no instance of any culture, nation or tribe ever having as the established standard for marriage anything other than between man and woman. It may have been multiple women and a man, it may have been something like that, but it was always between men and women.”

Bachmann has obviously not read John Boswell's (some what controversial) 1994 book Same-Sex Unions in Pre-Modern Europe where he substantiates a case from early church records of ceremonies where two men were joined in unions that used the same rituals as heterosexual marriages. (Boswell's other book written in 1980, Christianity, Social Tolerance, and Homosexuality: Gay People in Western Europe from the Beginning of the Christian Era to the Fourteenth Century).

There is also numerous examples throughout history of various types of same-sex unions: Greece, Rome, Mesopotamia and China. As for other cultures, she may want to read up on Native American culture and societies concerning Two-Spirit-type relationships.

I don't know about anyone else but I sure would not want her as my advocate in a court of law, her ignorance or blatant disregard of history is mind numbing.

After all that, Bachmann insisted that she was communicating a message of love for gay people and that conservatives must show the nation that God “is so much more powerful than the evil we see unleashed upon the world today.”

After just finishing about Paul "I plagiarize because I have no original ideas myself" Ryan, I find this quite comical. Especially if you take into consideration, Rick Santorum's statement from the 2012 Values Voter Summit.

We will never have the media on our side, ever, in this country. We will never have the elite, smart people on our side, because they believe they should have the power to tell you what to do.

So, which is it?

This coming from a party that is: anti-science (evolution and climate change), digs religious indoctrination,,,err, homeschooling, supports the anti-vax movement (some not all), is against stem cell research and usage, believes in the legends of a bronze age tribe of nomads and has blind faith in a 19th century economic theory that even the proponent didn't follow. Is that intellectual enough for ya?

I am reminded of an Op that the late Isaac Asimov penned in 1980,

It is no secret that I am not a fan of Michele Bachmann. This is a great example of why but it has nothing to do with her political alignment per se, it's due to the fact that she is very disingenuous and well rude. These thoughts are in no particular order just stuff off he top of my head whilst listening to her screeching.

First thing that comes to mind is she would make a master biblical apologist as she has the famed Gish gallop down to a science. Took Wolfe and Sanders to the 11 minute mark to get her to admit she is not for raising the minimum wage. Never did answer Sanders' question in regards to chained CPI.

In regards to her Australia comments, their minimum wage is NOT $20/hr nor are they "bleeding jobs." In fact it is approximately $16/hr and their unemployment rate is hovering around 6%.

Now bare in mind that in the 80s AU and the US were very similar in some regards but have since gone on divergent economic paths. The differences lay in what occurred during the Reagan years of deregulation, while AU implemented universal healthcare, almost free college education, universal social security and other like programs. In actuality AU has a 30 year head-start.

In the beginning of the clip, there was talk of the income inequality issue which devolved into what Bachmann called "income opportunity." In other words jobs. What she fails to realize (or just plain ignores) is that currently we have 1 job available for every 3 applicants. Her "solution" the same ole policies that have not worked; in her mind, the only way to grow the middle class is to give major corporation more tax breaks. Which is ridiculous given the fact that they already pay low taxes when compared from a decade ago. According to her line of reasoning, we'd have the lowest unemployment since before the Depression.

This goes to show you how republicans still do not understand that their policies have been implemented and used and that extending them is not going to help. They just don't seem to get it.

GOP operative Andy Parrish, a former chief of staff to U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann, is expected to tell an Iowa Senate ­ethics panel that her 2012 presidential campaign made improper payments to its state chairman.

Having maintained a public silence so far, Parrish referred questions Wednesday to his attorney, John Gil­more, who said his client will corroborate allegations from another former Bachmann aide, Peter Waldron.

Waldron, a Florida pastor, claims that the campaign hid payments to Iowa Sen. Kent Sorenson, in violation of Iowa Senate ethics rules that bar members from receiving pay from presidential campaigns.

Until now, Parrish has been identified by the committee only as “Witness A,” Gilmore said.

“The time has come to confirm that ‘Witness A’ is Andy Parrish, and he’ll be providing an affidavit with supporting material that completely supports the representations previously made by Peter Waldron,” Gilmore said.

Sorenson has vehemently denied any wrongdoing, calling the ethics charges “totally baseless, without evidence, and a waste of Iowans’ time and money.” Lawyers for the Bachmann campaign also have denied the allegations.

Waldron’s accusations are also the subject of inquiries by the Federal Election Commission (FEC) and the independent Office of Congressional Ethics. The investigations are part of a growing web of legal problems facing Bachmann, including a lawsuit by former staffer Barbara Heki alleging that Sorenson stole a proprietary e-mail list of Iowa home-school families from her personal computer. Those allegations also are the subject of an ongoing police investigation in Urbandale, Iowa.
