Donald Trump Taps Michele Bachmann, James Dobson & Other Far-Right Leaders For Advisory Board | Right Wing Watch

Ya know that whole underwear changing thing I was talking about with Trump?  If this is this man's "advisors" I would hate to see who he considers the "enemy" so to speak.

According to Bachmann, the September 11 attacks represented God’s judgment on America; President Obama and gay rights advocates are bringing about the End Times; homosexuality is “personal enslavement” and “part of Satan”; gay people want to change laws “so that adults will be able to freely prey on little children sexually”; and Obamacare death panels will literally kill people any day now.

Texas-based televangelist Kenneth Copeland is also on the advisory board even though God told him that Ted Cruz would be the next president. Like Trump, Copeland has been implicated in financial scandals and preaches against vaccines, which may have been a reason that one of his churches suffered a measles outbreak.

Dobson, who once said that he could not support Trump, has a long history with the anti-LGBT Right, warning that gay marriage will lead to a second civil war and pastors going to prison, as well as ushering in the destruction of religious freedom, God’s judgment on America and the transformation of the U.S. into Nazi Germany. He even linked same-sex marriage to the Sandy Hook shooting.

It's like a Whose Who list of anti gay hate.  Only ones missing are Scott Lively, Rick Warren, and Peter LaBarbera.

"Ladies and gentlemen," Fischer said, "that is just a form of tyranny. When you compel people to do things contrary to their will, contrary to their conscience, that's slavery as well as tyranny. So you think about it, who's bringing slavery back to the south? Who's bringing slavery back to the Confederate States of America? It's the homosexual lobby. When you compel people to provide services against their will, that is involuntary servitude, that is slavery. I submit to you that it is the homosexual lobby that's single-handedly bringing slavery back to the Confederate States of America."

'Prophet' Cindy Jacobs Warns That A Second Civil War Is Coming Due To Gay Marriage, Anti-Christian Persecution 

"One thing that prophet after prophet said," Jacobs said, "is you're going to see rain fall in the states that are following biblical principles ... Here in Texas, we're just seeing abundance. We're saddened about the flooding but what happened with the abundance of the rain was the lakes filled up and the rain brought great blessing, great fruitfulness to harvest."

Later, Jacobs proclaimed that America will experience a "conservative revolt" and reported that her prophecy was supported by a dream that her fellow prophet James Goll recently had in which God told him that "the war between the states has begun."

"The word that I issued," Jacobs reported, "was that there would come a time when states would threaten to secede from the union" due to the persecution of Christians and attacks on religious freedom, all of which was supported by Goll's dream in which he saw soldiers engaged in a second Civil War between the "sheep states" and the "goat states."

Linda Harvey: LGBT Rights Will 'Wipe Out Free Speech' And 'Obliterate' Christianity 

After the Shepard-Byrd Hate Crimes Prevention Act was signed into law in 2009, many anti-LGBT activists claimed that it would criminalize free speech and religious expression. They said the exact same thing following the Windsor and Obergefell decisions, and yet gay marriage opponents still have the right to criticize marriage equality, contrary to their own predictions.

Even though none of these predictions about the hate crimes law or marriage equality came true, critics now say that this time they have found the real legislation through which the LGBT rights movement will ban free speech: The Equality Act.

Writing in WorldNetDaily, Linda Harvey of Mission America alleges that the nondiscrimination bill threatens to “silence believers” and “essentially wipe out free speech and religious liberty on the issues of homosexuality and gender change.”

“Christianity is now a target to be obliterated or revised,” Harvey writes, labeling the bill a “fascist attempt to dismantle the First Amendment.”

In his latest monthly newsletter, James Dobson warns his supporters that the recent Supreme Court ruling legalizing gay marriage nationwide was not about achieving marriage equality at all, but rather is an attempt to oppress and persecute Christians and destroy Christianity.

The real goal, Dobson reveals, is for gay rights activists to shut down churches, destroy Christian businesses and organizations, and ultimately take control of your children ... just like Hitler did,,,

James Dobson Does Not Understand Bisexuality: 'That's Orgies!' | Right Wing Watch

I have been sitting on this for a few days.  Pondering.  Can an individual, a prominent one at that, be so,,,so, stupid?

Back in the day, I listened to Dobson on a daily basis.  I won't go so far as to say I idolized the man but he ranked quite high. (Please don't ask,,,roflmao,,,it musta been a delusional state I was in.)  The politics weren't as obvious in those days as the Reich we know today was just in its infancy;  I was able to brush his anti-gay stance off as our walks in faith were different.  But now, I am at a loss,,,can Dobson really be that stupid?

Here is a man, a psychologist who has made a portion of his living "educating" people about homosexuality and bisexuality.  One would think he would actually know what the term bisexual means.


"I would like them to think, just for a moment, about 'LGBT,'" Dobson said. "The 'B' stand for bisexual! That's orgies!  Are you really going to support this?"

Michael Stone over at Progressive Secular Humanist makes an interesting point along the same vane of thought I had:

It is difficult to believe that a man who claims to have a Ph.D. in psychology does not know the meaning of words like “bisexual” and “orgy.”

Indeed, it may be the case that rather than being ignorant, Dobson was simply being dishonest when equating bisexuality with orgies in a despicable attempt to smear ad denigrate individuals who identify as bisexual, and by extension, the LGBT community as a whole.

It should also go without saying that there is nothing morally objectionable to consenting adults engaging in “orgies” or sex parties or group sex or polyamory. What is morally objectionable is the dissemination of false and misleading information in the attempt to defame and shame individuals.

 To which Libby Anne of at Love, Joy, Feminism adds:

Evangelicals’ understanding of LGBTQ individuals is less about reality and more about crafting an image that fits within their worldview. In evangelical parlance, homosexuality, orgies, and pedophilia—these things all naturally go together. This is why evangelicals believe that gay people are naturally promiscuous and that transgender individuals are likely to abuse children in public restrooms. This image they have crafted of LGBTQ individuals may not resemble the reality, but it does allow them to fit the issue snugly into their belief system.

As more people have openly gay individuals in their lives, evangelicals are increasingly faced with a choice. They must either deny the lived experience of the (often few) LGBTQ individuals in their lives, or they must reject the image they have been given of LGBTQ individuals by their pastors or other evangelical leaders as false. If they do the latter, they have to find a way to adjust their belief system to account for this new understanding of LGBTQ individuals. And there are evangelicals today who are doing this, though I don’t have percentages. The past of least resistance, however, is to simply deny, deny, deny, and hold tight to the unquestioned belief system, and that is what most seem to be doing, at least for the moment. It’s certainly what Dobson is doing, though I’m unsure whether he knows any LGBTQ individuals.

The problem here isn’t just religion, though it certainly is that when it comes to LGBTQ issues specifically. When we look more broadly, it’s ideology in general that is the problem. Any time people set out to fit the world around them into a specific preconceived ideology, without a willingness to also look critically at that ideology, they will end up twisting pieces to fit them into their preexisting puzzle. Religion may be the most obvious example of this, but there are others, too. Think of communists or libertarians, for instance. Any time an individuals proclaims an ideology supreme, they run the risk of finding themselves twisting pieces to fit them into it rather than being willing to adjust the ideology when things don’t fit.

So is Dobson really that stupid?  I don't think so!!

Christians are not wimps, whiners, and weepers; but that has been an accusation made by atheists when we complain about the attacks against us and our beliefs. Those attacks multiply this time of year. We are told that there is no war–that we are too sensitive and should keep quiet and go back to our hot chocolate huddles in our church basements.

But our critics are wrong. There is a concerted effort to hurt our effectiveness, hinder our efforts, and halt our evangelism. Those attacks usually come from heathens, homosexuals, and humanists.

Larry Klayman's 2015 Predictions: Ebola, Race War And Dictatorship

Conservative lawyer and pundit Larry Klayman, who has for years dreamed of overthrowing President Obama with a popular uprising or a military coup, dedicates his first WorldNetDaily column of the new year to outlining the reasons to “rid the nation of the evil emperor in the White House” in 2015.

Klayman describes Obama as a “truly evil” leader who is “more dangerous than the terrorists themselves” and predicts that the U.S. will see a “massive epidemic” of Ebola in 2015 as a result of the president’s policies inviting “suicide terrorists” to “infect themselves and sneak into our country with the disease.” He adds that immigration reform will lead to a crime wave while the president and his allies launch an all-out race war.

Phyllis Schlafly: Introduce Male Quotas And End Student Loans To Reduce Female College Enrollment

Distraught that women are outpacing men in college enrollments, Eagle Forum founder Phyllis Schlafly took to WorldNetDaily this week to float the idea that colleges should enforce a gender quota to even out admissions to the benefit of men. Responding to a 2010 New York Times article, Schlafly wondered if colleges should set male admissions quotas to ensure that student bodies are “half women and half men.”

Another proposal Schlafly put in the mix is to “stop granting college loans, thereby forcing students to take jobs to pay for their tuition and eliminate time for parties, perhaps even wiping out time for fraternities and sororities.”

Schlafly also called for colleges to stop enforcing Title IX, which prevents sex discrimination in education, as a way to attract men, alleging that the anti-discrimination measure “removes a primary motivation for young men to go to college, many of whom want to try out for a sport even if they are not good enough to make the team.”

All of this, the right-wing activist insists, would actually benefit women because it would give them more available men to date.

Not sure whether to laugh or cry (and that is ignoring the spelling and grammar). Honey child, I'm gay and atheist and I know my bile; I hardly think you know the mind of your God either.

Homosexuality is a gift from God? What a lie

Cook has taken a page out of the playbook of homosexual activists, LaBarbera alleges, specifically from homosexual activists who use theology to rationalize their sin.

"But in doing so they're attacking and assailing the character of God Hmself," says Labarbera.

There is also the issue of Cook's claiming knowledge of God and the Bible, since many homosexuals are also atheists who would mock a straight person who made religious claims about normal sexuality.

Even though Cook claimed he was "proud" of his homosexuality, The Washington Post noted that he "neverly explicitly addressed his sexual orientation," even when he was asked about it by reporters.

Sheets: Christians Must Take Back Government In 2015 Because 'We Are God's Governing Force On The Earth'

Dutch Sheets, a leader among the New Apostolic Reformation's ever-growing cavalcade of self-proclaimed modern-day apostles, reveals that God is calling upon him and other right-wing Christians to focus their attention and activism upon taking control of the government in 2015.

"The Lord has confirmed to me that the door to the governmental arena — and to Washington DC, specifically — is again wide open," Sheets wrote recently in a column posted on his website. "This invitation to cross the threshold back into the sphere of governmental intercession has not only been extended to me, but to the entire body of Christ."

Tony Perkins Links Gays To Violent Persecution In Iran, North Korea

Perkins, who has previously called gay rights advocates pawns of Satan, agreed with Hector’s claim that conservatives like themselves are engaged in a spiritual war against demonic forces. He then added that President Obama is permitting the violent persecution of Christians outside of the U.S. in places like Iran and North Korea because his domestic social policies show “hostility” to religion.

“Tyrants abroad see an administration that is not only not interested in protecting religious freedom but actually persecuting, like we saw with the mayor there in Atlanta firing the fire chief because he believes in biblical morality and dares speak about it,” he said. “And if you and I tolerate that religious intolerance from the secular left, the rabid secular left, then Christians are going to die abroad.”

What we have seen to this point is federal funding for abortions (despite promises to the contrary), amnesty for millions of illegal aliens, open homosexuality in the military, women in every aspect of combat, the undermining of traditional marriage, a steady assault on religious liberty, universal health care and rationing of essential treatment for older Americans, and dozens of other imperious policies. When Barack Obama was a candidate for the highest office in 2008 and after, he promised to “fundamentally transform” this nation. Now we see what he had in mind. History tells us that nations before us have grown weak and faded away, usually related to poor leadership. Is this where our President is leading us?

ADDENDUM::IF YOU ARE A HUMAN, I recommend this film

As I was re-reading Linda Robertson's story in my previous post, I was reminded of a video that was sent to me back in August.  A video I thought I had posted about; a video I should have posted.  To correct for that misstep, I am "re-posting" my original thoughts with a few additions.

Back in August I received a message from a fellow atheist whom I highly respect.  Some one who has at times been an impetus for why I continue blogging.  And yes even at 50-years old there are people that inspire me or in my friends case, he makes me think.  Here is what he posted:

I wouldn't have known about this documentary - currently available on Netflix - had it not been mentioned by VVVVV XXXXX, and I watched it a little while ago (after I watched the very campy "King Solomon's mines"). What "For the Bible Tells Me So" does is to provide some background about fundamentalist Christianity's marginalization of LGBT people, and shows both why it's wrong and what the real-life, personal effects are. In some of these cases, fundamentalist Christianity's methods destroy lives, and it others, it makes people reject it. But in BOTH areas, fundamentalist Christianity suffers a net loss in believership and support.

I'm glad I watched it.

A few of the key points:

Gene Robinson, the first openly gay bishop in the Episcopal church is featured. James Dobson (Focus on the Family) is ridiculed by former supporters, including one one who's lesbian daughter committed suicide. (It took that event to change the mother's mind.) Dick Gephardt (remember him, from the 2004 presidential campaign?) is also prominently featured, along with his lesbian daughter, Chrissy. The Grahams (both of them) are shown, along with Swaggart, Falwell, and Robertson.....and Dubya.

And this caught me by surprise: XXXXX XXXXXs former boss at Fuller Theological Seminary, Richard Mouw, is featured in a segment, with a clip from a talk / sermon that he gave saying that he believed that the only way to look at homosexuality was through a Biblical literalist perspective.

(Oh, and BONUS! The animated PSA in the middle of the feature is narrated by Don LaFontaine! It's definitely a voice everyone will recognize.)

This isn't the kind of documentary that you'll sit down and be angry about. It's not about flinging feces everywhere. This is a well-developed, well-produced, and thoughtful film that will make you think. The theologians featured in this film, including Desmond Tutu, all make some very important theological points, especially about what "abomination" actually means. The stories are captivating, compelling, and meaningful. And, viewing it in the light that I tend to view these kinds of things in, it goes far deeper than just the fundie-Christian-vs-LGBT idea.

My initial response prior to watching said video:

Funny you should point this out as it came up on my radar a few days ago.  Was planning on watching it tomorrow as I am off.  Will be interested in what Tutu has to say concerning "abomination."  This may tie in nicely with what I have been working on the past few weeks.  Transcribing (or maybe I should say translating) 25+ years of handwritten notes concerning the subject matter (all told 6 loose-leaf binders).

Forgot all about Mouw, that is a blast from the past.  I know I have stuff from him somewhere in my cluster of notes as I do with all that you mentioned.  Dobson just makes my blood boil even to this day from crap he said way back when.

My biggest gripe with the fundies besides the obvious translational and interpretive differences (malakio and arsenokoite) is their total lack of consideration of social and cultural context.  Something I have touched on briefly in other postings.  I will be curious if they even broach that aspect.

So I began watching, trying to maintain an open mind and not allow the bile to rise.

Thanks a lot Dave Foda I'm having flashbacks!  Mel White was an early influence as was Gene Robinson.

I'm about half way through and I guess in some ways I am thankful I never had to deal with the whole coming out aspect, I just always accepted who I was and really didn't feel the need to tell anyone. I figured if people couldn't figure it out for themselves so be it. I still have never actually told my parents although I do assume after all this time they have figured it out.

I find that I agree with both Holloway and Keene in regards to literalism. Although in my schooling in hermeneutics and interpretation we called it literal vs leteral; with leteralism equating to their concept of literal or as Holoway states, a "pronouncement;" the "letter of the law." Keene's idea of taking in context, language, culture and custom would be literal.

There ares some powerful words and actions of wisdom, "What I was embarrassed about was that I was thinking totally of how she was having sex and not about her as a person." Dick Gephard speaking of unconditional love. And Gene Robinson's parents trying to learn and understand.

But there is also tragedy which makes the work of Trevor Project so very important.

The standards clobber passages have been brought into play. And of course Sodom & Gomorrah's cultural and social implications are ignored by the leteralists. Although, Mouw, up to this point is playing it safe by focusing on the Paulianity of Romans 1 - he still gets it wrong. Baines and Caplan do a good job of discrediting the asshole,,,err Dobson. And Kudos to the Reitan's.

The last chunk is amazingly powerful and I am at a loss for words. My only "criticism," which would have made my flashback complete, they didn't include Rev. Jane Spahr (now retired), now that is going back a few years.

It is the "last chunk" that I will focus on in my next post.  The video "For the Bible tells Me So" is still available on Netflix and I highly recommend it.

LaBarbera: Government Cannot Be Trusted To Stop Ebola Because Of Gay Rights

Peter LaBarbera was the guest on Cliff Kincaid's "America's Survival" program last week where the two spent an entire hour railing against all things gay, with LaBarbera warning that Americans cannot trust the government to handle the Ebola threat because it has never taken the steps necessary to stop gay men from spreading HIV.

Nobody in the government is telling young men "do not practice anal sex, do not practice homosexual behavior," LaBarbera griped, complaining that the government is instead "promoting" homosexuality even though it spreads disease and represents a danger to public health.

LaBarbera was particularly outraged about bath houses where "homosexual men go for indiscriminate, anonymous sexual contact with other men," demanding to know why the CDC and the federal government have not shut them all down.

"Condom-less anal sex and homosexual promiscuity are the two largest risk factors in the spread of disease," LaBarbera said. "They can't even close down a bath house? I mean, they're not serious about that disease so why should we trust them on Ebola?"

Ted Cruz: Anti-Gay Civil Disobedience May Be Needed To Resist Alinskyite Democrats

Conservative talk show host Steve Deace has been focusing his program over the last couple weeks on what he calls the “rainbow jihad” of gay rights, in particular the situation in Houston involving a lawsuit filed by Religious Right activists attempting to take down the city’s nondiscrimination ordinance. On his program yesterday, Deace welcomed the self-appointed star of the Houston dust-up, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, who told him that pro-equality Democratic lawmakers are waging an Alinsky-inspired plot to silence dissent and that anti-gay conservatives may soon have to resort to civil disobedience.

“The problem is the modern Democratic Party, the professional politician, whether it is Democratic senators in Washington or whether it is the mayor or the city council members in the city of Houston, they have gotten so extreme that their objective is not to win an argument but it is instead to try to silence dissent and to crush and destroy anyone they deem to be their political opponent,” Cruz said.

Tony Perkins Understands Why People Think Obama Is Spreading Ebola To Impose Martial Law

On Tuesday’s edition of “Washington Watch,” Family Research Council President Tony Perkins chatted with a listener, James, who claimed President Obama has a “deliberate” plan to make an Ebola “epidemic occur across the United States” in order to “institute quarantine and martial law restrictions.”

Rather than dismiss the caller’s paranoid remarks, Perkins responded that Obama administration officials “certainly give rise to those who would interpret it that way.”

Perkins claimed that the administration is ignoring “commonsense procedures” like banning travel from West African countries, a move that many infectious disease experts say could actually put the U.S. at greater risk.

Eugene Delgaudio: Gays Will Make It Legal To 'Rape And Murder Young Boys

I won't say what I am really thinking after reading the enclosed screed,,,

In a rambling email today for his Religious Right group Public Advocate of the United States, Virginia GOP politician and anti-Cory "Brooker" activist Eugene Delgaudio writes that he sees “agents of the radical Homosexual Lobby everywhere…huddled in dark corners scheming and plotting” and “drooling for more in the new Congress.”

What do they want? According to Delgaudio, gay activists want to create “a nation where police are forced by gay ‘rights’ laws to allow sexual predators like ‘Uncle Ed’ Savitz and Jeffrey Dahmer to rape and murder young boys in the streets.”

“These people admit that they want to molest our children,” he writes. “They admit that they want complete control over the national law enforcement apparatus. They admit that they’re deviants.”

He also warns that gay rights advocates will enact “pro-homosexual hiring quotas in workplaces” in order to allow “homosexuals to run rampant over our country.”

Delgaudio adds that while other conservative leaders “want to quit,” which he says would “be like surrounding after Pearl Harbor,” he is going to fight to thwart the gay rights movement despite the ill effects on his personal wellbeing: “My health is suffering under the strain of fighting the radical Homosexual Lobby with limited help. I can’t eat, I can’t sleep and I am sick with worry.”

Delgaudio also compares himself to Jesus: “And just as Jesus showed us by example and could not have stood back and done nothing at the Temple, I couldn't stand back and do nothing in the face of the growing power of the radical Homosexual Agenda.”

Rafael Cruz: Voters Are 'Disobeying God' By Failing To Elect 'Righteous' Politicians

Can we say d-o-m-i-n-i-o-n-i-s-t,,,

“If the righteous are not voting, if the righteous are not even running for office, what is left is the wicked electing the wicked,” he said. “I mean, it’s our fault. It’s our fault because the people of God are not engaged in the process.”

He lamented that unlike anti-Nazi dissident Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Christians in the U.S. today are “not even speaking out against the evil that is all around us” but are instead “acquiescing because of fear” and “excusing everything because of political correctness.”

Dean declared that the Houston hubbub was “a prime example” of his claim that “the homosexual agenda is there to upend your sovereignty.”

He argued that Houston Mayor Annise Parker, who is a lesbian, backed the nondiscrimination law in order “to attack the church that was calling her out for her crimes against nature.”

Later in the program, he contended that openly gay elected officials and executive branch appointees are destroying the country: “God didn’t give us a right to institute, friends, a bunch of homosexuals into federal government in this country.”

On his “Trunews” radio program last week, right-wing conspiracy theorist Rick Wiles argued that American voters are now powerless against the Obama administration, warning his listeners that, regardless of how the midterm elections play out, they should anticipate the “iron fist of tyranny” from the “mac daddy” president as he tries to maintain political power.

“If Barry Soetoro’s socialist Democrats win, against all odds and common sense and history, we’ll know that America’s elections are rigged,” he said. “On the other hand, if the mac daddy socialist Democratic party gets an old-fashioned thumping at the polls, it still doesn’t matter: Mr. Obama will simply crack down on all opposition, use government surveillance agencies to spy on his opponents, he’ll continue to issue presidential decrees and ignore the Congress, and rule the country like a dictator. Nothing’s going change, except that he’s really going to step it up as a dictator.”

After attacking Focus on the Family for criticizing his remarks on Ebola, Wiles warned his fellow Religious Right activists that “persecution of the true Christian church will be carried out by America’s ‘gaystapo’ under the direction of America’s first gay president, Barry Soetoro.”

In his October newsletter, Focus on the Family founder James Dobson has a pretty clear message: Because of gay rights, America is at risk of joining Pompeii and Ancient Rome in the ranks of societies “so corrupted by evil that divine judgment eventually destroys them.”

“We have not yet reached the depravity of Sodom and Gomorrah, but that appears to be where we are headed,” Dobson warns, citing the Supreme Court’s decision striking down “sodomy” laws and subsequent lower court decisions preventing marriage discrimination.

“His justice will prevail when unrestrained lust, violence, perversion, and other forms of grievous sin have run their course,” Dobson declares.

James Dobson invited Anne Paulk and Alex McFarland to discuss homosexuality this week on his radio show “Family Talk,” and as you could imagine they were not exactly happy with the rise of gay rights in America.

On the third and final broadcast, McFarland made the case that “clearly homosexuality is a destructive behavior,” citing “the actuarial charts of life insurance companies show that gay men live twenty years less than their heterosexual counterparts.” The claim that gay people live twenty years less than straight peers refers to a study conducted in the late 1980s and early 1990s during the AIDS crisis, and one of the authors claims that their research has been “ grossly misrepresented” by anti-gay activists.

Anne Paulk: Teenagers Confuse A 'Bromance' Or 'Guy Crush' With Being Gay | Right Wing Watch

Ex-gay activist Anne Paulk appeared today on “Family Talk,” where she told hosts James Dobson and Meg Meeker that parents should be skeptical when a teenage child comes out of the closet.

She advised parents to question their kids by asking questions like: “Why do you think that you are gay? What is happening in your life, son or daughter, that makes you think that you might be gay? Do you think maybe that you might be considering admiration of another person of the same gender and thinking you’re confused by what are normal crushes, guy crushes I think they call them nowadays, bromance or whatever?”

Paulk also warned that “there is a huge machine in public education” that instills kids with a “gay identity, and it’s just not fair to the individual.”

It’s almost politically correct to be homosexual or gay,” Dobson said. “You’re a hero by declaring that you’re gay,” Paulk replied, pointing to Michael Sam. “He became an overnight hero in many circles simply for saying ‘I’m gay.’ That’s our culture today.”

I had a really nice diatribe all planned out in my head concerning Dobson's whine fest, then I came across this article by Hrafnkell Haraldsson over at PoliticusUSA. Two points we share

• Actually, it is Jesus who is hostile to any public display of religious fervor, saying at Matthew 6:1, “Beware of practicing your piety before others in order to be seen by them; for then you have no reward from your father in heaven.”
• But whenever you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you (Matthew 6:6).

James Dobson is offended that anybody took offense at his hyper-partisan National Day of Prayer speech last month, and feels that he was slighted not only by a Democratic congresswoman who walked out during his address but also by Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly, whom he is accusing of “disrespectful” treatment.

Writing in his June newsletter, the Focus on the Family founder calls President Obama the “anti-religious freedom president” and suggests that he is the first president to propose federal funding to Planned Parenthood. In reality, Planned Parenthood has received federal funding since 1970.

"You may have read one of the hundreds of blogs and articles that were critical of Shirley and me following the recent National Day of Prayer event in Washington, D.C. Most of the criticism was aimed at me, which I’ll address in a moment. Almost all of the angry editorials were written by liberal activists who were apparently looking for an excuse to damage the prayer event in the nation’s capital. They are hostile to any public display of religious fervor. The writers of these blogs despise conservative Christians, especially those of us who stand firm for what we believe."

Pt. 3a::Actually, calling Mikey Weinstein an atheist IS Defamation!

It is no wonder I never seem to get much accomplished, or I feel that way. So many sources for wonderful bits of news and opinion.

The following is from Paul Loebe of Rock Beyond Belief. He lays out exactly what defamation is, illustrating it with a statement from Dustin Chalker, MRFF Atheist Affairs Advisor. Then goes on to explain why Kelly's statement reaches the level of defamation.

Following that Paul highlights something that I believe is quite important for us non-military people to understand (pay close attention as to how he words it):

Contrary to what many think there is actually a war on Christians in the US Military. They are in this monumental struggle the same as we atheists. The radical extremist Christians are now attacking them the same as they are us. They are silencing and debasing the liberal Christians who are, themselves, fellow secularists. And, unfortunately, many of those Christian victims do not understand their legal rights and the regulations of the military in regards to religion. So when these non-radical Christians come under attack from these theocrats who are actively trying to transform our military into the military arm of their version of Christianity to whom should they turn for help? It appears to me that the Military Religious Freedom Foundation is the only organization that is available as a means to defend their Constitutional rights.

"It goes deeper than that. MRFF has been so successful in the past few years that these Christo-fascist groups have formed a coalition called the Military Freedom Coalition. They have mirrored their website to appear as if they are fighting to defend religious liberty when in actuality they are the same theocratic groups that help to undermine the Establishment Clause of the Constitution."

MRFF is not just "fighting" for atheists MRFF is fighting for those Christians who do not meet the standards of the theocrats who see the control of the military as part of their jihad. Both Kelly and the Dobsons have modified the use of the term(s) "atheist" or "atheism" to their advantage. It has become as a weapon to cause harm. Those that may be in need of the services MRFF offers may be hesitant to seek them out because of the false perception thereby not receiving the help they need. That is real harm.

Paul's conclusion IMHO says it all. We do live in a world of short attention spans.

We are a group of intellectuals and constitutionalists fighting against an ignorant horde of theocratic Christian supremacists who are brain-washed through sound bites. It is impossible to fight a fair fight of words in such an environment. We must use strong words of rebuttal in order to be noticed. If we lived in a society of people who had an attention span greater than 120 characters or 10 second sound bites, then I would agree with you.

It's why I don't mind getting sidetracked and taken down the numerous rabbit holes I seem to find.

Pt. 3::No, Megyn Kelly, Mikey Weinstein Is NOT an Atheist | Chris Rodda

There is a reason I bring this we bit of "older" news up concerning the NDoP besides the fact that what Chris wrote was spot on in regards to Mikey. But that will have to wait till later (a part 4) as I was drawn to a few points she made in her current piece.

The crux of what Chris is arguing,,,

And how is Mikey supposed to defend himself against your "accusation" that he's an atheist without risking offending all the people in this country who actually are atheists? It's like President Obama having to defend himself against the "accusation" that he's a Muslim without sounding like he thinks there's something wrong with being a Muslim. That's what happens when people like you, Ms. Kelly, and your cohorts at Fox News turn a religious belief or ideology into an accusation -- it forces a person, whether it be our president or Mikey Weinstein, into the incredibly awkward position of having to refute what is a false statement about their personal beliefs while at the same time not wanting to offend the many people who really do hold those beliefs. It galls Mikey to feel like he has to add that "not that I think there's anything wrong with atheists" disclaimer to his saying that he himself is not an atheist. There is just no good way for him to say that without him feeling like he sounds like a racist following some statement about their whiteness with "not that I have anything against black people." It would be like "accusing" you, Ms. Kelly, of being a brunette, and you having to defend your blondness without risking offending every brunette who tunes into your show.

In other words, the word "atheist" or "atheism" is being used as a weapon to belittle and harass or worse. Chris continues:

Now, Ms. Kelly, Mikey Weinstein has made it abundantly clear, on too many occasions to count, that he is not an atheist, and that MRFF is not an atheist organization, and no matter how much more convenient it would be for Fox News if MRFF were an atheist organization, you just can't keep repeating your blatantly false claims that it is. Therefore, Ms. Kelly, you have just become the next lucky winner of one of those letters that MRFF's attorneys send to "journalists" who insist on lying, to remind you about that pesky defamation thing that, as a former attorney yourself, you should know all about.

Of course me being me, I had to go look at this letter and in that letter, this statement is made by lawyer Mathis, "Television broadcasts can be particularly challenging in that I think sometimes people re-publish statements as if they are true fact, when they are not,,,"

Me thinks Mr. Mathis was referring to something like this wonderful posting that happened to float across my feed as I was writing this up:

"An atheist organization is demanding that no uniformed personnel should be allowed to participate in a Christian organization’s National Day of Prayer event scheduled next week on Capitol Hill, claiming it violates U.S. Department of Defense regulations.

"The Military Religious Freedom Foundation, ironically headed by an atheist, Mikey Weinstein, claims that the event excludes non-Christians, and therefore amounts to little more than government-sanctioned Christianity, according to Fox News." 

So you see, we are not nuts, this shit is real and causes real harm!!

Pt. 1::Megyn Kelly Joins In Mikey Weinstein Smear Fest - NewsHounds

Fox News provides a warm and sympathetic pulpit for Christians who feel that their First Amendment rights are being violated. But those who push back against what they feel are violations of the First Amendment's "establishment clause," by overzealous Christians, are targets of Fox's opprobrium. Mikey Weinstein, who is head of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, seems to have replaced Cindy Sheehan as Fox's number one persona non grata because of his advocacy for those, in the military, who feel that their religious freedom is being violated by those with religious agendas. Last year, Megyn Kelly, during a sneering interview with Weinstein, suggested that his group put Christian religious liberty "at risk." Thursday night, she hosted Dr. and Mrs. Pat Dobson (?) for a sweet, Christian attack on Weinstein who wasn't there to defend himself. So much for Kelly's claim to be "fair & balanced."

After showing treacly video of a guy asking his god to watch over the military and school children praying that - wait for it - their school department "selects a curriculum that is honoring to you," Kelly dramatically reported that OMG the National Day of Prayer has "come under attack from an atheist group" that "is now demanding that no uniformed military personnel be allowed to participate in this event claiming it violates Defense Department regulations." She introduced Dr. and Mrs. Dobson who are closely connected to the National Day of Prayer.

In prefacing her question to Dr. Dobson (formerly of Focus on the Family, now with a radio ministry) she cited how Fox nemesis Mikey Weinstein (Head of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, "challenges a lot of events." She summarized Weinstein's position. Dr. Dobson, former head of Focus on the Family who now has a radio ministry, Family Talk, dismissed Weinstein as just "one loud voice" and a "professional atheist" who is "paid a very large salary." He claimed that "national days of prayer are an American tradition" because a bunch of presidents "called for a National Day of Prayer." He praised the awesomeness of prayer gatherings on the National Day of Prayer.
